As the owner of a/the original gaming x trio 3080, the cosmetic improvements are nice. Wonder if they'll sell the new backplate standalone. Looks like the "fixed" diffuser on the top led bar is still apart of the backplate too.

MSI finally woke up and slapped a proper backplate (metal) on such a high-end card, rather than a stupid plastic one :clap:

That said, they're still on my shit list.

Meanwhile, there are no 3080 available to buy here in Romania, at any price. I was lucky to receive one as a birthday gift in December. Alternatively, you can buy a 3090 for the equivalent of $3700 + VAT, or higher.

That's the problem with MSI, they are way too inconsistent in the quality of their products.

I compared it with the first 4 months of the 1080 and 2080 launches using that Steam hardware survey on archive.org:

3080: +0.23% +0.25% +0.18% +0.11% = 0.77%
2080: +0.22% +0.09% +0.19% +0.10% = 0.60%
1080: +0.30% +0.19% +0.15% +0.11% = 0.75%

So, yeah, it seems that the 3080 is not doing bad at all, in fact it's the fastest growing out of those 3. But I don't remember having any issue getting a PC with an 1080 and later upgrading it to a 2080, except both being a bit too expensive for my taste. So I guess that NVidia is actually correct and the demand is higher than in the past. Either way, I wouldn't want to be in the situation of having to build a new gaming computer at the moment.

Well in that case I'm glad I hit the quality jackpot with my 3070 Gaming X Trio. This card looks top end, performs top end, and clocks at a nice 2055 Mhz @ 925mv while being under 60C at all times. Fans don't even need to spin past 40%. Compared to my previous Zotac 2070, my GPU went from being the loudest part of my system to the quietest.

I'm aware of their review shenanigans in the past and how some of their products are garbage (which to be fair is the case with every manufacturer). But this particular buy has not been a regret for me, loving this card.

As far as quality ... we were a strictly Asus shop up thru 2013 .... being hardware whores, we tend to go with the best numbers but since 2013, our issues with Asus significantly exceed Gigabyte and MSI. Never had a MSI MoBo user ask me to "fix" the results of trying to remove a GFX card w/o depressing the release tab and yanking the socket right out of the board - (2) Asrock, (1) Asus. But for the most part, only GFX card issues we have had with GFX cards is with EVGA and Asus and those have been refusal to support the product, when it does not perform "as advertised" out of the box. Otherwise, have not had a warranty failure on any card in prolly 10 years. Don't have any experience with MSI boards below $150 and the lower end MSI cards but the High End series seem to top TPUs testing significantly more often than not.
