Intel Celebrates 10 Years of Chromebooks

Google and the broader Chrome ecosystem continue to deliver innovative, cloud-first PC experiences with Chromebooks powered by Intel—from use in classrooms to go-anywhere connectivity for work and gaming.

"This past year has reminded us that the PC is an integral part of our lives," said Chris Walker, Intel corporate vice president and general manager of Mobile Client Platforms. "Intel and Google share a vision for delivering the computing experiences that matter most to people. Together, we have enabled the incredible growth and evolution of the Chrome ecosystem over the last decade to reach amazing levels of capability and performance. We're excited to build on this collaboration as we continue to drive innovation forward." Since the first device was introduced in 2011, an entire ecosystem has evolved and more than 100 million Chromebooks have made their way into the world for students and educators, general consumers and businesses. Over those 10 years, Intel has worked closely with Google and original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to enable more than 100 Intel-based Chromebook designs and drive new areas of innovation.
Recently, Intel has continued to evolve those experiences with:
  • 11th Gen Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Xe graphics, optimized to deliver the best experience for Chromebooks.
  • Thunderbolt, Intel's universal cable connectivity solution for data, video and power, coming to Chromebooks this year in Intel Evo platform-verified designs.
  • Intel Celeron and Intel Pentium Silver processors coming to market this spring in OEM designs for education.
  • The Modern Computing Alliance, co-founded by Intel, bringing together hardware and software leaders to deliver new, industry-level innovation to Google's Chrome commercial ecosystem.
Looking ahead to the next decade and beyond, Intel is excited to continue expanding its partnership with Google to raise the bar for what users can expect in the Chrome ecosystem. Happy birthday, Chrome OS.

Interesting PR given that Chromebooks are some of the only computers to traditionally use non-x86 hardware (excluding the latest Apple M1 computers). Yes you can get Intel Chromebooks, but they are the minority in the cheap school environment that Chromebooks do well in.

I'm sorry but that is not true.

I work as an IT school manager and we actually never bougth ARM based Chromebooks.

Sometimes the education models are not even effored in ARM configs. Ex. HP Chromebook 11 G series for Education

I would be interested to see what is the actual percetage of ARM chromebook VS x86

EDIT : look at this chart : Chromebook specs & performance comparison chart (2020) (zipso.net) mainly x86 CPU
