Nintendo Attempts to Block Wii Modchips
Nintendo has altered the circuit layout of its Wii games console in order to block the increasing use of modification chips (modchips). The new Wiis, which are part of new shipments of the console, have an altered circuit layout that makes modification more difficult than in earlier versions. Users attempting to mod the new consoles using current modchips are very likely to damage the system, the sources pointed out. However, new-generation modchips capable of working with the revised Wii consoles may become available in less than a month, according to DigiTimes.

seems i'll have to get the 'old' stock
The GameCube didn't lose the last gen. race because of the lack of piracy but because of the lack of good exclusive games. Games are what makes or breaks a console. The GC is easier to mod than you think. One of the best mod chips for the GC only costs 9 bucks and is easier to install than a PS2 mod chip.
The PS2 had way more quality games to offer than the GC. The GC had roughly about 30 good games that were worth buying where the PS2 had much more than that.
Just compare the GC and PS2 game library.
P.S.
No, I'm not a so-called Sony "fanboy". In fact I own a GC and am very happy with it. It's just that the choice of games is very limited.
But, the few good games it has are really great, like Zelda: The Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, ...
9/10 people that modchip any console do it so they can play illegal copies on it..and thats a FACT!!! (well maybe not exactly 9/10...more like 10/10 lmao )
