GTA 6 Not Before 2025, Reimagines Vice City

Don't hold your breath for Grand Theft Auto 6, as the game won't be out before 2025, reports Tom Henderson. Timelines for development of the next GTA was pushed this far back possibly because the extensive amount of voice-over and motion-capture work that goes into the game, and playtesting the game, probably aren't easy in the wake of travel restrictions. The Cyberpunk 2077 launch, which was disastrous form a quality-assurance standpoint, possibly spooked Rockstar, which wants to take its own sweet time getting GTA 6 right.

A third factor could be the increased scrutiny from gamers on studios that crunch (overwork their employees to meet release dates), Rockstar was accused of crunching during the development of Red Dead Redemption 2. In related news, GTA 6 will reportedly be based around a modern-day rendition of Vice City, from the title that springboarded GTA to the top of the open-world action adventure genre. It is also rumored to have Fortnite-like evolving maps, which gives players the feel of a world that changes with time like a city in real life, would (new infrastructure and businesses).

it was great but personally I thought San Andreas was a massive step up, Vice City's car control and the fact that you still could not swim, again great but not as great as San Andreas.

The question is, with this much time at their disposal, will they release this simultaneously on consoles and PC or they'll try to milk every singe penny by releasing it full price years later like they always do ? Actually I think I know the answer...

VC still improved flight controls over GTA-3. Along with bad vehicle control(bikes and cars) plus small map it still left a lot to be desired(we can forgive them for the fact that it was developed in under a year) which means it is not really comparable to SA which had better development time. Compared to GTA-4(the worst game of series) and GTA-5 somehow those older 3D GTA games have great replayability.

Gta4 was the best gta. Easily. Hands down. No argument. Sure performance on PC wasn't the best at first but it's fine now.

Not a fan of dark/greyscale look and horrible optimizations left bad taste in mouth luckily it was stupidly cheap at launch(It launched in India for INR 500(~US$10 back in the day)). Also it had taxi glitch which limited modding and not a great support for control center. Nothing comes close to SA for its modding support and I spent weeks modifying every single vehicle in the game just for fun.

I have really enjoyed all of the GTA series, even the top down first two where such a move on from what was about and then GTA 3 came out and wow... I think the progression with this type of game has been crazy. The size of the maps, the missions and all the rest of it, they really do have masses to do in them now.

I wonder if the remake might take an hour to go from one side of the city to another.... lol

Even with the difference in graphics, it still never takes it away from the playability of the game. Some of the newest/latest and greatest seem to have forgotten that for me...

Let the Developers patch and polish the game first. Then release.

There are downloadable series, updated, modified, compressed with no launchers.

Won’t someone think of the players, forced by Rockstar to play this game, chained to their computers, whipped and flogged for not playing a game they were forced to buy and with it a contract to play!!!

I still haven’t touched RDR2, maybe this winter when life slows down.

Thats fine with me, i much prefer conservative estimate than one delay after another, plus it doesnt put pressure on anyone and should help with everything.

I just hope that whatever they do its as seamless as possible, its not that much fun to wait for cinematics and load times constantly. Their 3d animations and voiceovers are top tier but if i wanted to watch a movie i would do that instead.

Also please dont make it oversaturated, gta 5 looks like cartoon colors. Gta 4 had the best colorgrading

I was hoping for the game to launch after 2023 and my wish is granted. I am extremely happy!
This simply means that the technical parts of the game will be absolutely incredible, taking into consideration that RDR2 even today is gorgeous.

Well, at least I still have 4 years to finish GTA 5's story and start RDR 2 which I'm yet to play.

In my book, GTA III was the one that caused the GTA series to become super-famous! I remember playing GTA III on a T-bird 900 with a Radeon 7000 or a GeForce 2 MX200 and it played well!

If they bring Vice City back I might lose my life to a GTA game. The memories of flying that dodo out to the game's no man's land in GTA III, finding the little patch they put together out under the hillside for an early cutscene. And then Vice City made that awesome game somehow less awesome.

Ahh, Vice City...that was the game I mastered using the keyboard for car control. Spent a lot of time cussing at the RC helicopter mission and Hilary from the race mission for the Malibu Club!

I'm a sucker for the '80s, probably why I think Vice City was the most immersive of all the GTAs. Running over people in a Comet while "Automatic" by The Pointer Sisters is on the radio..good times.

Can't forget Danny Trejo voicing Umberto: "Show me you got some biiiig cojones....and not some liiittle-bitty chiquita ones!"

That's kind of ridiculous in my opinion. Basically 12 years between releases and they basically have re-released GTA 5 on 3 generation of console (Xbox 360, Xbox One, and now Series X and the Playstation counterparts respectively). I am not against a company taking time and getting things right, but over 10 years and not to mention constantly porting the game to new consoles makes me loose respect for Rockstar. GTA 5 is still a good game, but its gotten very dated at this point regardless of the online updates. Rockstar has released like 2 games since 2013 (GTA 5 and RDR2) which for a company that size and with how much they make from their games is pretty low (Not saying they should cram the market, but jeez I would expect maybe a game every other year or 3 years at least).

If it launches at that time, for PC and consoles, and the PC version is fully optimized and MOSTLY bug free, this is "acceptable". If we get to that point, several graphics card generations from now, and the PC version is bug ridden, or late, or delayed, and the game will barely run on those next, next, next-gen graphics cards of 2025, I'm going to be very unhappy.

Rockstar is THAT confident that GTA5 will last that long. While it's been going strong for 8 years, it's also getting long in the tooth. It needs a few updates, optimizations and refinements to say the least..
