TechPowerUp is Looking for a Content Proofreader

TechPowerUp is looking for a content proofreader with a strong command of U.S. English. This is a remote, part-time position, the job entails proofreading our written content, like reviews. The position is paid and open worldwide, expect 1-2 hours of work per day, Mon-Fri. Besides excellent language skills, it's a big plus if you understand the topics we're writing about. No need to get all the technical details, but it will help a lot if you know the difference between Mb and MB, NVMe and SATA, and can catch other similar mistakes, in addition to spelling and grammar. We're looking to fill this position by August.

Interested? Write to w1zzard@techpowerup.com. If you can, do tell us a bit about yourself, like age, location, time constraints, etc.

Actually, apart from my wonky posts where I'm under influence, I have a huge urge to correct everything in the articles and the comments. But mods are sensitive and won't tolerate my inner grammar nazi.

Forums are informal and should stay that way. Reviews on the other hand is a joint effort. Person writing should always put the best forward and proof-reader should catch the stupid stuff, question the legitimacy of statements and flow of sentences, not actually fix anything. A editor. Edits the text. Less interpretation, heavy emphasis on the fixing part

The web says Definition of proofread : to read and mark corrections in (something, such as a proof). Editor : to prepare (something, such as literary material) for publication or public presentation. So which is it?

Which brings up this. I've been calling the proofreader an editor this whole time because I just assumed proofreader is another term for editor... until now that I looked it up. I'm sure someone could make the distinction more clear and what Wiz is actually looking for.

I am a grammar nazi. Well.. maybe not that extreme. I correct anyone who uses poor or incorrect grammar under my roof much to the annoyance of everyone. It’s a bad habit. The same goes for spelling. I usually won the class spelling bee.. a girl beat me once. She was pretty smart though, maybe even smarter than me.. but shh. There is always going to someone smarter than you anyways right? :D

I actually wanted to be an English teacher when I was younger.. I should have followed through with it, but nearly half of a lifetime of poor choices awaited me instead lol.. yay..
ir_cownot actually fix anything. A editor.
An editor.

For instance lol..

I am not trying to single you out, it’s just an example :D

The Brits, Canadians and Aussies write 'theatre, centre, and colour' just for an example which makes no sense.

I feel sorry for the poor guy who'll have to correctly capitalise the three-letter name of that British chip designer. And their product, the architecture, which is spelled the same but not always capitalised the same.

Pretty sure we all use both.. I know when we make metric parts we just convert to imperial because that’s how the machines are setup to run.
