Meta Quest Pro VR Leaked as Someone Left One Behind in a Hotel Room

Meta (Oculus) is readying its next-gen high-end VR HMD, the Meta Quest Pro. Someone left a retail-looking box behind in a hotel room, with an engineering sample. At this point we don't know if it's a Meta employee who got very sloppy with their ES, or an ISV eligible to receive an ES. It was found by a hotel employee, who also claims to be a game streamer. He claimed to have found several such boxes full of Meta samples. The Quest Pro VR appears lightweight, with no unnecessary bulk anywhere, Meta seems to have redesigned the head-straps and light-blockers of the HMD. The controllers feature a more compact appearance, as if to better with with smaller hands. Meta is expected to formally launch its "next-gen" headset at the Connect Conference on October 11, but we can't tell if this is what the company is planning to unveil.

This seems to be a very cheap way to launch a product.
"Leave" it somewhere and wait for the internet to notice.

This is exciting, we are about to get flooded with new VR stuff. Today is Sony's state of play and they are going to show off some PCVR2 stuff. Also, the Pico 4 is being teased. The Pico 4 will be Pico's answer to the Quest Pro. Hopefully their software is as good as the hardware specs. The PSVR 2 will have HDR and that is going to be huge for VR. Meta Connect is a month away on Oct 13th where they will announce the Meta Quest Pro. I want to buy the Quest Pro but if it's 1500 then it will be a hard pass. Hopefully we can buy the controllers and use them with the Quest 2. Plus at 1500, I'll wait for Valve to release the Deckard and see how much they want for it before I make a decision.

Everyone is starting to jump in. Lenovo just announce their Legion VR700. The word is that Apple will announce theirs in 2023 and Samsung has teased that they are working on a new HMD as well.

Now that I have a powerful enough GPU to drive my Index at 120hz with decent supersampling (3080ti on the cheap), I've been getting back into VR again. Yes there need to be more good games but it's definitely an enjoyable experience again. VR simracing in Assetto Corsa with the multitude of mods out there is downright fantastic.

What I don't like about my Index is the weight, the aweful Godrays / internal reflection, and the resolution (still not sharp enough). With miniLED for VR about to become more mainstream, it should make sets lighter with sharper resolution. I'll upgrade once the right headset comes around soon ...

Seems very glasses unfriendly. With all the slim concept designs i've been seeing lately, it seems like VR manufacturers want you to either have contacts, laser eye surgery, or to GTFO. Some headsets let you use custom prescription lenses too, but as someone who's nearsighted, neither contacts nor custom lenses would be adequate for me.

Maybe ... but once I got contacts years ago, I rarely ever touched my glasses again. Just takes a few weeks to get used to touching your eye balls lol.

I wouldn't be able to see well up close with contacts. Either I can see things well at 12" or closer while everything further away is blurry (without corrective lenses), or I can see well far away while everything 12" or closer is blurry (with corrective lenses). I get around this by wearing relatively slim glasses that I can see under when reading things up close. If VR headsets focused on giving you a large vertical FoV to accommodate that instead of focusing on ultra slim designs, I'd be much happier. :p

Wow, how convenient, why was this guy not at the very least fired for going though some one's stuff.

Naw, you have to watch the upload video. The owner set it in the hallway like it was trash. If it would have been one of the other workers they would have just thrown it away. He picked it up and said wow this is heavy this might not be trash. I was thinking the same thing as you until I watch the interview.

So like if it was setup to happen huh, people do all kinds of things for fame. As i am sure people leave $1000's ? ( like a phone ). left behind and totally forget the heavy boxes they were carrying to get to the hotel room.

Sure. They just forgot they had the stuff of big ol boxes with unreleased stuff.

Anyways not interested in supporting a toxic company.

I agree I think the person left it on purpose, but I think the guy that found it wasn't in on it. If he was then Hollywood needs to hire him. haha Like I said I would hold tight because Valve's next HMD will be mind blowing. Plus, everyone seems to have something coming, but honestly which big company isn't toxic? lol I'd like to think Valve is not toxic, but I don't know if I trust Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, ByteDance, Lenovo, etc.. lol The list goes on.

EDIT: I meant to add Sony in the mix. lol Also, just to be clear ByteDance is Pico.

Probably because he "left it behind" at checkout. At that point, you basically forfeit privacy.

Unsure what happened here (kinda stinks tbh), but you bet your butt they do, sadly. Irresponsible behavior isn't a new thing to man.
