This Week in Gaming (Week 8)

We have a jam packed week of new game releases to look forward to, with almost all of the game releases this week being AAA or AA releases, although one is a remake from 2014. It's a mix of action RPGs, strategy and simulation games, so there should be something for almost everyone as well.

Atomic Heart / This week's AAA title / Monday 20 February
Atomic Heart is an adventure role-playing action game with a closed world, which takes place in an alternative Soviet Union of 1955. Science, equality and fraternity are the main symbols of Freedom in this reality. But what kind of effort does it take to build an ideal society? And what is the price of such a society? Will Major of Intelligence "P-3" have to find out what forces are behind the Utopian dream? And what secrets are hidden in the depths of Facility 3826? The truth will have to be paid in blood. [Editor's note: NVIDIA has been promoting this game since 2019 and it's guaranteed to have RTX and DLSS support]
Like a Dragon: Ishin! / This week's remake / Tuesday 21 February
Centuries of peace are coming to an end. Across the nation, factions assemble in anticipation of civil war. Imperial loyalists unite under the banner of "sonno joui"—revere the Emperor, expel the barbarians. They fight to overthrow Japan's military dictatorship and shut its borders to foreign influence. Meanwhile, the ruling government, the Bakufu, has assigned special police forces to maintain order—provided they can manage to coexist without drawing blades on one another.
Redemption Reapers / Wednesday 22 February
Descending suddenly on the world, the macabre Mort armies destroy nation after nation, leaving humanity decimated in the wake of their overwhelming terror and might. Amid the despair, a small, localized contingent crosses swords with the Mort—the Ashen Hawk Brigade. A cunning band that specializes in surprise attacks, they were once known as the Faithless Reapers and despised by the masses. Little did the public know that this very unit was about to become the only hope in resisting the Mort.
Company of Heroes 3 / This week's second AAA title / Thursday 23 February
Bigger and better than ever, Company of Heroes 3 combines heart-pounding combat with deeper strategic choices in a stunning Mediterranean theatre of war. In Company of Heroes 3, every battle tells a story...what's yours?
Kerbal Space Program 2 / Friday 25 February
The original Kerbal Space Program is one of the most beloved games of all time and, years after its release, it's bigger than ever before. Its sequel, Kerbal Space Program 2, has been fully redesigned from the ground up to meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration, all while maintaining the monumental foundations of the first game. Build a space program, construct powerful spacecraft, and navigate expansive celestial bodies as you explore cosmic mysteries.
Octopath Traveler II / Friday 25 February
The story takes place in Solistia, a land comprising an eastern and western continent divided by the sea. It is a bustling era, wherein large vessels navigate busy sea routes and the power of steam gives birth to new technologies. In this faraway realm, eight travellers hailing from different regions venture forth for their own reasons. Step into their shoes and explore the land as you see fit, using their unique talents to aid you along your journey.

Company of Heroes 3 looks darn good for a strategy game!

I've been eyeing the original Kerbal Space Program for a while. Now that the second iteration is coming, I might take another look at it. :)

I've really liked Octopath Traveller (on Switch).
This sequel looks very close to the first ... too much in fact ...
I fear it can grows repetitive fast :/

Some really good games coming out this week! I'd probably pick Octopath to start. That reminds me, I still need to play Bravely Default II...

Company of Heroes 3. That's what interests me in this list.

Atomic Heart smells like failure and bugs to me.

Too me AH looks a lot less appealing then it once did, just too generalized after interest was gathered.

Kinda interested in Atomic Heart, I'm getting some weird Bioshock vibes from it.
Since I have Gamepass active currently and it will be available there on the launch day I will check it out for sure.

Kerbal Space Program is awesome! Oh man, I was so sad when the sequel was almost cancelled, so glad it's finally coming. Will be fun to see how the mod community up ends the game even more in the coming months and years

I've never played any of the company of hero RTS titles... but have always been interested with each launch. Donkey years ago i was a huge fan of RTS titles and probably spent hundreds of hours playing command and conquer. The sheer eye candy alone in COH No. 3 is enough to pull the trigger on this one (hope the reviews stack up sweetly).

Divide OverflowVery much looking forward to Kerbal Space Program 2!
Be nice if it wasn't just early access, with only sandbox mode at the start.

But yes, as a major name in that modding scene, I'll be ordering day one. I'm only moderately pessimistic.

Heh, I like GOG, but unless its no-DRM policy goes away (thus ending the point of GOG), that's about as far-fetched a dream as it comes. Publishers have an active aversion to releasing games on DRM-free platforms due to high piracy rates. Would sure be nice to have more games on GOG though...

Why? Kerbal 1 is on GOG, so why shouldn't Kerbal 2 be there?

That is publishers believing their own BS. Piracy is a very small problem on GOG.

Well, the IP ownership change might just explain that... had it released on GOG before Squad sold it to Take Two? Would be nice to have it there though, I just don't see Take-Two as a PC-friendly company, like Ubisoft, they love their DRM and always-online.

I'm not sure if it's the best looking one... there's so much blur that I can hardly see anything. The pixelated characters look cool, though.

But was it there at launch? I think having games at launch on GOG is a pipe dream, they'll want to protect the initial sales for at least the initial 6 months to a year (not saying it's right, just is what it is)

Anyway, this seems to be early access, I'm not sure how that works, is the game on sale like normal?

"We took Fallout, Bioshock, Metro 2033, Control, Dead Space, and threw 'em all into an industrial blender. Once we spread the resulting puree over a stale slice of UE4, we calculated to a 40% degree of certainty that it's 100% delicious."
