Grand Theft Auto VI Being Made on a Multi-Billion Dollar Budget

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) could go down in history as the most expensive game production ever, with Rockstar Games pooling in anywhere between $1-2 billion. The open-world crime RPG is said to have the biggest map ever in the history of the franchise, with the most content (missions), and room for a vast multiplayer experience teetering on MMORPG. It is said to take gamers back to Vice City, the iconic setting that made GTA globally popular. The big budget could also mean Rockstar could rope in triple-A Hollywood actors to play key characters in the single-player campaign, as well as be playable characters in the multiplayer. Rockstar could also target nearly every gaming platform out there, spanning Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and possibly even handhelds.

Rockstar will surely recoup all this money selling the same game up to the Playstation 7 and Xbox Omega (placeholder name subject to change).

Jalex459That 'Definitive Edition' was developed by a mobile developer, Grove Street Games, so really doesn't count IMO. Generally, their first party games have been great, with V and RDR2 offering outstanding quality, so I expect nothing less for VI.
After seeing the whole debacle around launch didnt bother ordering "definitive edition"(also I own all those 3 games on disc), and the fact that Rockstar had left out Vice City stories and Liberty City stories from release made it not worth the asking price. With GTA-5 they broke their usual cycle and spent extra time optimising game for PC unlike in past(GTA-4 absolute horrible example of bad PC port). Really hoping GTA-6 has a great story and that online is just another add-on as a side feature rather than main selling point(though it might be highly unlikely).

All I hope is that whenever GTA VI gets released in the 2030s, they deliver something that's not unfinished, like most AAA games this day.

Rumor has it that the release will be Holiday Season 2024 but some Rockstar insiders are saying the game won't be ready for 2 years. One thing Rockstar could do is cut sections of the game that can't meet the 2024 deadline and sell them later on as DLC. I hope not but it is a possibility.

FouquinUnfinished game looked unfinished? What a shock.

No, because it's unfinished. Everyone will just complain about it being another buggy broken disappointment and we've had enough of those this year already.
Yeah it’d end up being another cyberpunk 2077

A few elegant ways to say "we actually have no idea right now"... I mean, sure, I get it - that's probably gonna be the biggest launch in entertainment history (again), but going off random Twitter rumors and speculation feels a bit cheap.
64KI expect it to release on console first and later on PC so that gamers that own both will double-dip. ;)
If history is anything to go by, you're most likely about 200% correct.
Dr. DroAbsolutely no chance that's about to happen, physical media can't comport ongoing live-service games. Bet you this is going to have a very very heavy emphasis on GTA Online.
I have the same feeling and I absolutely hate it.
Kohl BaasWell, it has to be big. We won't see another for least until 2050.
This may be a joke, but it's too true to not hurt...
Jalex459Rockstar usually do an excellent job with their PC ports and unlike most companies these days, release the software when it's good and ready. If that's 12-18 months after PS5 and Series X, as it was with V, so be it. There really is no rush.
Tell me you haven't played GTA IV on PC without telling me you haven't played GTA IV on PC.
ZoneDymoI wonder if this will launch at 100 dollars
Not a problem for me, but I'm biased. Whatever the price, though, I think this time I won't preorder. It's getting too risky.
ilyonHoping some PTR and DLSS. Without them, it's a NOGO.
PTR?
ilyonAnd a game around 70 GB max, too, for the planet.
How did you come up with this number?! GTA V is already around 110 GB.
ilyonAnd free day one on EGS too.
At this point you're delusional or trolling...
MarsM4NI hope they hired someone who knows how to write a good script for the story mode. F.e. Quentin Tarantino (such a genius). Imagine the dialogues, lol.

GTA V and RDR 2, their last two big releases, were both written by Dan Houser, Rupert Humphries and Michael Unsworth. This, plus the fact that I don't remember them previously having any star talent in the writing department just makes me highly doubt it. Don't get me wrong, I love a good Tarantino story as much as the next guy, but I'm just not seeing it.

Unfortunately, that is about as far from the truth as possible. Cyberfraud delayed 3 times spanning a couple of years and still released in that utter garbage state - and to this day doesn't measure up to the ambition of the original project. People seem to like it despite the shortcomings, but being a fan of Bethesda games I just can't look the other way. Its quality today doesn't measure up to Fallout 76 at launch, and I stand firm on this

EA is even worse with almost all of their releases(many of which are annual repackaged old wine in new bottle).

I doubt 1-2 Billion is even going to come close to what squadron 42 will cost by the time it gets released in maybe 30/40 years time.

ChomiqCyberpunk had release date.
Cyberpunk had multiple release dates not to mention that it was announced like what, a decade ago ? None of that means anything in particular.

"..could potentially release on every platform.."

That would be awesome, but I'm glad to have a current console to play it on at launch.
Because according to recent history, this isn't coming to PC until well after the XB/PS6 Pro Plus VR Ballwasher Edition.

Woah, you mean footage of a still unfinished game that leaked almost a year ago didn't look like a finished AAA game? The game already looked visually much more impressive than GTA 5, even in it's current gen iteration, and that leak footage was probably mostly early/mid development.

Well, kinda. I tried to extrapolate a date from the previous releases and slapped +10 years to it for being an intentional "Game As Service" thing. Joke aside I would say somewhere around 2040.

Reality is, sooner or later there will be a point where they need to refresh the engine itself and at that point they can just release another game to refresh the frenchise and zero the accounts.
