Elon Musk Announces that Twitter Will Change Name to X
After having paid US$44 billion for Twitter, it appears Elon Musk isn't happy with Twitter being Twitter and is now getting ready to change the name of the social media platform to X. For those that aren't familiar with Elon Musk's company history, X was his online bank that preceded PayPal, or rather X.com, a domain name that is still owned by Elon Musk and currently redirects to Twitter. It appears that Elon Musk and Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino have big plans for X, at least according to several posts by the Twitter CEO.
Yaccaranio in a post on Twitter states that "X is the future state of unlimited interactivity - centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking - creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we're just beginning to imagine." Make of this what you want, but it appears that Twitter is about to go through some major changes, some that had already been mentioned by Musk as early as last year. Time will tell if this will be a direction that Twitter's users want things to go, or if the platform will end up dying a death of a thousand cuts.

- Hey, I read it on X.
- Hey. I know him, he is posting on X.
- Hey, I am spying me ex on X.
- Hey, those X-brains on X are going to become an X social media platform with this kind of ideas.
So for example if I cant play Division 2, one of the places to look at information about it is twitter, but usually the Steam forums first.
But for the rest I could not care less what its called or whatever else they are doing with it, if it stops being a thing then the quick news will just be posted elsewhere and ill check it there.
also, X gon give it to ya, he's gonna give it to ya
Marketing usually use 3 to 4 word letters for the low mental capacity consumers to better remember. Elon did one better, ONE LETTER, i guess he does know the social media users and their mental capacity better then everyone else. :D
I think that's a dumb move - You don't just casually change a name that became a common word used daily by everyone. "-Did You see that last X that the polititian wrote today? -You mean the tweet? -Mate, You can't say that word anymore!".
I wish Elon to concentrate his mind and actions much more in the space related hardware because Mars is so close.
Train crash in slow motion I love it. Starship is going to be a similar fiasco I reckon. You think? He is lightyears away from travelling there still. SpaceX has feature parity with a space shuttle from decades ago by now, and added a bit of recycling to the process. Yay? Because that is realistically what weve got now if you cut away all the promises. He can land a rocket back on earth. Its an achievement but gets us nowhere plus we have more space debris up there now than ever. Fabulous!
Though I'm in agreeance with most here, social media is just crap. It's fine if you're on a sub-group about cars, guns, books, nature, whatever (liked minded-folks discussing what things they enjoy). But selling it as a general 'town hall' nonsense - no way. You ask a million people what they think of 'topic A' and all you get is fighting and bitching, trolling and tears. There's no debate on an open social media channel. There is no town hall. Just carnage.
And yes especially twitter is trash I support opinion of @AsRock. Elon must make right decision how to rule his property in future.
But it seems a lot of features are planned that go far beyond making posts. It wouldn't fit to say you're gonna browse for goods on twitter. That's not what you think of when you hear twitter.
So this rebranding has its purpose. Now whether it will be worth the loss in public perception is another matter.
It was broken before Elon, it was a money shredding machine.
It got more broken after Elon, most of the advertisers left, and they don't want to come back to Twitter. It's toxic.
You can't put a new coat of pain on a turd, Elon is trying to transform it. It is the only move he could do. Not a smart move or a dumb move, the only move.
A lot has to change to make that think profitable and that's the only thing that matters to him.
