Sony PS3 60GB Reserves Depleted

It's official: the 60GB version of the Sony PS3 is on it's way out. None of the SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America) warehouses have any 60GB PS3 stock. Fortunately for Sony, all of the PS3s were going straight to retailers around the country, and were already paid-in-full. And while Sony has no idea how many of those 60GB PS3s are still on store shelves, Sony believes that there's still "ample supply left".

I just dont see how or why they took out backwards compatibility on this machine (The 80GB one) it just doesnt make sense to me.

They didnt remove backwards compatibility, they just switch to software emulation to save on cost. Overall it does the same job.

No, not really. The 60GB with the Emotion Engine is able to play ALL ps2 games, the consoles with software emulation are not.

Not all ps2/ps games can be played even with the EE in there... in my opinion, as long as all of the major games work through software emulation, then there isn't a problem.

What ps2 games don't run on the Emotion engine?

The initial release of the ps3 didn't have the rock solid backwards compatibility...

So EE chip isnt the sole thing providing backwards compatibility, there is software emu...regardless.

Hmmmm, good to know. I wonder what the current state of affairs is like for ps2 games.

But either way, I'd rather have the hardware than not.

It's not too long of a list but it's still a list. Sony did a much better job at getting old games to work than MS did with their 360.
Your not too smart if you dont realize that the only reason MS doesnt release that much of the xbox games at once for BC is because they ytest each game ext3ensively for bugs and hardware failures and etc.
Sony will just say this game will load up; this game will run ok; this game will run good; this game will run great nutkick at sony for not going towards the quality route, personally id rather not play a BC game and then right in the middle of a session for it to crash out or freeze up on me.

Sonys just barely emulating them to the point where you can boot up then their mostly done with it and then move on to the next game on their list

But then again, Sony has a console that lasts for more than a few months. I'm not sure if you've seen the article but xbox 360 has a 1 in 3 failure rate. Sony and Nintendo? Less than 1%. Older games that supposedly run perfectly on the xbox 360 doesn't matter much if the 360 doesn't work.

Actually i last heard that that number has dropped down to like 15% or less since they started putting heatpipes as well as fix the problems with current 360 customers so the 360 crashes arent that much of a problem anymore, to be on the safeside if someone wants a good 360 that wont crash buy the premium thaat now has HDMI it should have the extra heatpipe in it and such lol

The failure rate is still way too high for a electronic device of that price... but then again it could be just me being biased against 360's since mine started to have problems within 15min of starting up and eventually having to be returned the next day.

sorry to hear that mine just flat out overheated since i only had this tight little hole in my entertainment center where my old xbox used to be. so now im waiting for 65 nm before i do anything else.

You have anything to prove these theories? I haven't tested a lot of ps2 games on my ps3, but the ones I have, have run perfectly.

I dont have a link cause its been too long but i saw on a site supported by Sony for the European launch of the PS3 that since the emotion engine was gone from that system that there would be problems with hundreds of games. They had a website with explanations for every single game rerleased in Europe saying it was maybe runs great, runs ok., doesnt work, will boot, etc. I cant get too detailed since its been way too long for me to remeber but it should still be an existing website
