Sony to Release White PS2 for Christmas

I think we would all agree that the PlayStation 2 has had a long run, with no signs of recent sales slowing down. To keep things interesting, this November Sony will release a white PS2 bundled with "SingStar Pop" and 2 USB microphones. The packaged deal will be available for $149.99USD. The new paint job is a welcome aesthetic change for those whose home decor doesn't accommodate for the "flat black" original, or anyone with a different taste in colors.

hmm.. interesting.. they were total 4 versions of the PS2: the bigger first generation, the black slim, the silver slim, and now the white slim. Hopefully they're not going to release the "clear" skin slim in the future because I've already seen that skin from a third party one. All in all, I guess those slims all have the same specs.

well at least we all know where the ps2 parts from the ps3's went but a shame the price of the ps3 didn't go down as much when they removed the ps2 parts.

I need a new ps2, that one looks pretty sharp... Most my stuff is all black or aluminum... But I think I can make that fit somehow.

It seems like sony can't do anything original these days. They saw the success of guitar hero, and hoped to make a fortune of their own by releasing sing-star... the game that nobody wants.

I should sell my slim white JP PS2 that I bought 2 years ago on eBay just before this Singstar release. I'm rich bitch!

Id have thaught an eye toy pack would be better then singstar. one better then the wii as you dont have to hold anything at all to play its games ;)

I PS2 w/dualshock is better than the wii, and it doesn't have motion sensing.

Aaahh but there is young hatling ;) Sony can potentially offset PS3 manufacturing costs, hence lower PS3 prices, by drumming up enough interest in the "new" PS2 for those console gamers who dont have mighty deep pockets, or like to play console games but dont care if they are a gen behind.

No point? Afaik PS2 still outsells PS3 by far.

And hell, it has ~117 Million units sold worldwide so far, and is STILL selling. PS2 is one of the best consoles ever imo.

PS2 rocks, that's why I have one. Backwards compatability with my old Playstation games made me choose it over an Xbox for christmas, and it takes the PS2 less power to do what the xbox does.

Just proves the sucess of the "Playstation" brand. Although, I think it would have been cooler being blue. :)

I like this white color....too bad they dont offer a blue and too bad they dont offer skins and/or different color ps3s and what not. That would be sick.

Just curious, why does the 80gb PS3 not work with ps2 and ps1 games?

There was also a silver version of the original PS2 (I've got one), not to mention countless special edition versions.

My Old FAT PS2 has some awesome heatsinks inside....where's my hammer!?

I bet those heatsinks could do more good on a vga card...or chipset, instead of gathering dust today.
