New 512MB 8800 GTS Pictured
After the success of the 8800 GT, rumours of a new 8800 GTS based on the G92 core have been on the net for a few weeks now. Now some pictures have been leaked onto the internet, along with some extra specs. It was already known to feature 128 enabled stream processors, and the latest specs claim that the new card will also have a 650MHz core clock speed, shaders at 1625MHz, 512MB memory at 1940MHz and will be nine inches long. Its official release date is said to be December 3rd, with a price tag somewhere between $299 and $349.

interesting...
Dec.3rd is only 2 weeks away!
this card will stil lose to the GTX and prob the old gts in higher resolution when taxing the memory.. Crysis maxed @ 1680x1050 and above uses more than 512mb memory, so if you like having your graphics maxed (texture elc) and game at theses higher resolutions you'll want more memory to do so... well lets all hope they come out with a 1gb model.. Im sure they will.. and it will fair well @ higher resolution. :)
There's also the consideration that Vista doesn't differentiate between the VRAM and system RAM.
@largon
Yes, more SP, and a higher native shader clock. We're looking at 208,000 or so shader processes per second. The GT has 168,000 and the Ultra 192,000; for games like Crysis, that's a huge deal.
Newconroer said thats prob why thier not releasing a 1gb model.. because it will dominate the gtx/ultra in higher resolutions making those cards very hard to sell.. its like buying a 1900gt today for around $200 when you can get something better. makes it EOL. (end of life).
The GTX will only have saving grace at 1900 resolution(or higher), IF that.
So what that an OC GT outperforms a stock GTX? You know what I would have said next, right?
The new GTS is not on par, it's simply better.
And again, whats with the comparison of stock vs OC? The GT will never match the GTS, even when overclocked, just like the GT will never match an Ultra when overclocked, the architecture is different. Overclocking does not unlock vertex pipelines and shader units...
Anyways, we'll find out within several weeks.
In the meantime, let's just be glad that Nvidia released at least some cards, rather than making us wait another six months. It's better than us sitting around trying to downplay the new card(s), because we feel silly that we went raving mad and ran out and bought a card (GT), without waiting to see what was around the corner.
We even have a member of TPU that took a screenshot of one with GPUz.
Yet I have not found them for sale anywhere....hmm.
