Second-gen Asus Eee PC rumored to have touch screen

After Asus's large success with the Eee PC, the company is looking to launch a new version, which will most probably appear in Q2 2008. The screen options will be either 7, 8 or 8.9-inch and the PC will be WiMAX-enabled. Interestingly, Asus may opt for a 9" touch screen, and is searching for a manufacturer that would be capable of supplying the screens in large quantities at a decent price.

There is a possibility that the top Eee model will feature a 10" screen, Asus does plan to keep the costs as low as possible.

I was looking to get one of these for school, but with the second generation coming out I may just wait still next semester to get one. Hopefully the price point will be <$400

Good thing I resisted the temptation to get the 1st generation ones. I wonder if the overall size will stay more or less the same as the 1st gen eee pc's, because the ultra portability of these things were always one of the selling points.

Why are these things so popular? I bet anything you could do on that low-end pc you could do on an iphone or any other really tricked out phone.

not really. iphone doesnt have its own keyboard and all. There are many stuff this "low end"
machine can do. Especially office work, warcraft,CS etc.

They need more storage before I consider one. Just give me the option for a standard drive, thank you very much.

Don't want an external. That defeats the purpose of the portability and convenience factor.

Not really they are pretty small and if your looking for portability oone doesn't carry all his data with him now does he. So 30 Gb of the cloud should be enough.

Oh, I thought you meant an external with the Eee pc. Because in it's current state, it's almost necessary to have one. 30GB internal would be perfect for an Eee PC or Cloud.

EeePC with its solid state drive will be grossly over-priced.Maybe in the future when they become cheaper.
If the cloud and eeepc perform the same then it would come down to one's required size of hdd.
As linux is the OS much space wont be used.

I know Eee PC uses SSD, but I think a 1.8" HDD would've have been better. Despite Linux not taking much space, even my music files take more than 30GB. Eee PC doesn't leave much room for the extra goodies. Having to carry around an external HDD just seems like too much of a kludge. I'll have to look into the Cloud tho.

I actually want the SSD as there are no moving parts meaning I could take it with me all the time and not have to worry about it being damaged
