SCEA Adds New PS3 Bundle, Reveals DUALSHOCK 3 Release Date
To coincide with the much-anticipated North American launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in late Q2 2008, SCEA will introduce a special PS3 bundle. The Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 will include an 80GB PS3, the upcoming blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for $499.99 (MSRP). Followed by the introduction of this limited version Sony revealed another much-requested release date: SCEA will introduce the DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller for the first time in North America in April 2008 for $54.99 (MSRP). Compatible with more than 100 PS3 games, DUALSHOCK 3 has both rumble and motion-sending SIXAXIS technologies. Of course Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be 100% compatible with the DUALSHOCK 3.

I thought that they were going to be discontinuing the 80B PS3 though?
Wii remote ($40) + nunchuk ($20) = $60
x360 Wireless Controller ($40) + Rechargeable Battery Kit ($20) = $60
And the 80gb PS3's sku (which is bundled with Motor Storm) has been discontinued...but that doesn't mean that the 80gb itself is gone.
The rechargable battery kit allows you yo have not just one but 2 rechargable batterys for the 360 controller (the original one plus the one that comes with thr rechargable battery pack.
The normal PS3 controller is $50 too, just like the Xbox360 and Wii remotes. The Dualshock is only $5 more, it isn't really that big of a deal.
Edit: Ktr is correct, the basic controller just comes with 2 AA batteries. You need to purchase a seperate play and charge kit to get a rechargable battery and charging cable. The Wii controllers also don't come with recharable batteries, or a way to charge them. The PS3 controllers are the only ones that come as rechargable standard.
The XBox360 controllers do not.
So a PS3 controller w/ Dual Shock is like buying an Xbox360 controller w/ battery pack.
Also my halo 3 Limited edition 360 also came with a Play and charge kit as well.
the controllers really dont cost that much to make but its the one of the ways the console manufacturers see themselves as making a profit from. They really will not see any reason whatsoever to be lowering their own set prices on the controllers (remember all 3 console manufacturers are at the end of the day trying to make alot of money.)
A black wireless controller is $50 and just the battery is $15. Thats $65 for a controller and battery. The play and charge kit is $20 so that is $70.
179.99 dollars for the proprietary MS HDD
vs these non-proprietary HDDs for the PS3 (all with tons more space and less money):

(I could do the same comparisons with other xbox products, but I'm not going to start some flame war)
Opps did I forget Xbox Live payments...Oh the proprietary headset...left that one out.
MS has a clever way of doing things unless you really do your research.
Also XBOX LIVE playments are so worth paying $50 for it. You just havent a clue Ravenas. If you played on Xbox LIVE for one straight week and then tried to go back to the Playstation Network you would feel pretty mad at sony about all its missing features.
btw thats some pretty cool box art nice find KTR
Sony realized their mistake and started PSN, which is unified. And with Home coming very soon, it will make PSN a complete online community/service equal to XBL...and for free.
And yes, the controllers are cheaper on places that charge below MSRP. Guess what, that argument doesn't help you one bit. But are you smart enough to know why?
I could do the same comparison as above for any xbox product. The Xbox 360 is like the old Apples where everything was proprietary.
I played on Xbox Live for a straight year (on the same connection I am on now), and I still completely disagree with you. It is no better than the PSN network. KTR is right, the PS2 had its flaws, but the PS3's PSN is near flawless.
With Home coming Xbox Live players are finally going to start realizing that they are getting ripped.
EDIT: Why can't you chill with the personal attacks?
