Gearbox Signs In-Game Advertising Deal
Gearbox Software has reached a deal with advertising company Double Fusion to bring in-game advertisements to some of its future titles. Double Fusion will be providing the developer with dynamic advertising technology to deliver the ads and integrated sponsorships, although Gearbox has not yet disclosed which games will contain these adverts. The companies commented that they will "work together to ensure that all advertising programs are appropriate and add value to the gamers' experience." In-game ads look set to become more common over the next few years, with big names such as Microsoft and EA already having agreed to similar deals.

Sure it's fine now but imagine the future. Imagine Battlefield 3142... hop in the Gundam-like hovercraft thingy but YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH 10 ADS FIRST =/
Anyway, I don't care if there's adds if they fit well into the game (like billboards in a city) AND it lowers the price of the game. I'm tired of paying $50-60 for a new game. It's ridiculous. I think games should cost around $35 at most. $20-25 if it has ads.
I wounder if company's be able sell weapons in a 3D shooter LMFAO. Probably a Newegg ad quoting some thing like buy a Razer to kill your enemy quicker with.
I was annoyed with Copany Of Hero's xpac forcing me to be online to play SP game never mind ads in game lol.. Cos if i see a DELL PC like i did in FEAR i'll shoot every one of them lol.
If they make it fun, why not.
The more passive ads are okay, but being real companies, real brands, real products, they bring me out of the game environment with a big backhanded slap of reality.
We all need to consider the cons and values of in-game advertising.
If you all look at the costs of making a next gen game today its gotten super expensive. Companies are getting bought up left and right by the bigger companies (EA, Activision, Microsoft, Sony) because they are allowing themselves to be bought out seeing as how they cant keep up with the costs of producing anext gen game of today.
I think that a little bit of advertising is fine as long as it isnt to extreme like many of EAs sports and racing games are.
I remember Burnout 3 for the XBOX basically had ads EVERYWHERE. It was starting to get REALLY ANNOYING TO ME to also see ads for OTHER EA GAMES LIKE TIGER WOODS, for example.
We can all accept a little bit of ads like the ones with Fear and the Dell computers No biggie I dont mind destroying them up either like Danish Devil said.
