MSI Wind BIOS 1.09 Enables Overclocking for Real
MSI recently released a new BIOS version 1.09 for their first netbook MSI Wind. Thanks to this new BIOS Wind owners may now overclock their netbooks by pressing Fn+F10 on the keyboard with an AC power plugged in. This enables 8%, 15% and 24% (1984MHz compared to 1600MHz stock) automatic overclocking. Enabling a 24% overclock will roughly give you a 30% increase in performance. The new BIOS also enhances Wind's performance by approximately 5% over the older BIOS version 1.08. The only downside of this BIOS is that it changes the fan speed, so your Wind may appear to be louder even when it is not overclocked. You can download the new BIOS directly from MSI here, but if you intend to upgrade I strongly recommend you to read this guide first.

now all i need is a superpi run, to know how fast these chips are when OC'd... because i want to make then HD media capable :D
such a feature will stand out amongst other NETBOOKS
This idea is freaking awesome!
2.) The MSI Wind isn't the only netbook to offer this feature. The EeePC has a similar feature, though it isn't as aggressive with the clock speed. The EeePC only clocks the CPU to 1.8GHz at the highest setting.
3.) Yes, the EeePC can be overclocked even further using SetFSB or EEECTL.
I can confirm that this bios update make the Wind a must have for those thinking about a Wind for xmas. MSI's huge experience in the HQ MoBo space over the years is showing through in their great bioses - whereby Asus was always a low quality provider. I love my Wind more and more with every update.
Sure the Super Hybrid Engine in the Eees is ok but this function is really amazing and couldn't be any easier. And the Power LED glows orange so you know you are O/Cd. What a netboook!

I ussually use my business laptop (HP 8510p) downclocked to 600 MHz (RightMark CPU Clock Utility) and all apps work perfectly (Firefox, Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel...). Only time I bring the clock back to 2,4 GHz is when running some very demanding Visual Basic apps.
Therefore, overclocked MSI Wind is just... Well, perfect! :respect:
was that the superpi 1M test? If so, 1m 17s seems pretty bad for the turbo (2GHz?) speed
again, thanks for posting that.
