Call of Duty: World at War Doubles COD4's First Week Sales

The newest addition to the Call of Duty (COD) franchise, Call of Duty: World at War, has outsold the first week sales of Call of Duty 4 by greater than 200%. This title is all set to become Christmas number one, and has gone to the top of the All Formats charts in the UK, according to data from GfK Chart-Track.

The figures are rough, and GfK Chart-Track didn't provide a per-platform breakdown, to provide how the game is being received by different platforms. COD: World at War added more console platform support, with Sony PS2 and Nintendo DS over its predecessor.

I got tired of playing COD4 at LAN parties but now that I have CODWAW I love it and I think it is better than COD4, probably because it is a WW2 based game.

I like that they gave Asia a shot even after Medal of Honor Rising Sun (Which is actually a great game. I don't see why everyone hates it. Frontline definitely had superior animations / character models, though) was a little lacking in popularity. I'll probably buy it. :P

I have COD5 and yea its not as good as COD4 i think, going back to WW2 AGAIN omg, its just been done so many times =/

I can see people playing it at home just to do the missions etc, but id say it wont be any good at the LAN i go to, i think COD4 ruled at the LAN, and will continue to be played.

COD5 will have a short life span.

I think both are good, cod5 again caters to those that like WWII weapons and style of war. Cod4 was fantastic for modern warfare.

However I will warn those that are making the purchase:

PC version:

DO NOT GET THE LIMITED COLLECTORS EDITION

you're supposed to get this extra:

water canteen
fg42 (gun unlocked early)
Special Color clan tag
A special tin
a week of double experience to help u rank up.

What u actually get:

A gun early that u get to use but nothing counts towards the challenges of that gun.
a water canteen that's sealed shut and can't be open with a warning "do not use for liquids"
NO COLOR CLAN TAG (only worked for the 360 and it only made it gold, you didn't get to pick the color)
EVERYONE is getting a week of double XP
A special tin.

So basically u pay an extra $20 to get a special tin and a water canteen that u can't use.

Yeah I'm mad.

The AI is stupid.
The missions are so easy. COD4 single player is better than this.

Or just not buy the abomination all together.

I'm too tired to find the link but. gogamer.com has it for $36 plus 3 bucks for shipping. If anyone does wana pick it up. Personally.. I'm sick of WW2 is all I'll say. For that price it's tempting though. I think i'll hang till Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising comes out, or Americas Army 2.

What is this talking about? I played, and enjoyed, COD4 on the DS when it came out. Very well done for a DS game, although obviously not as good as the console versions. Kinda reminded me of a modern day version of Perfect Dark by the way it played.

Give me copious amounts of lead to rain on the bringers of hatred and suffering of that time in our past that was called WWII. :toast:

I shelled (no pun intended) out the $50 for my copy on Tuesday the 11th/launch day.

If you don't like WWII games, there is always those OMFG-I-NEEDA-SUBSCRIBTION-2-PLAY-MMO games.

If you dont like WWII games, there aren't really any other interesting wars out there, and I don't think people would like world war I or the french/american/etc revolutions.

(and dont start one just for a game)

*puts hand up* I've played the game...I don't like it. I prefer CoD4.

Thing that annoys me is the fact I spend half the time not being able to see a thing, because the particle system seems intent on filling my screen with crap. The dismemberment is cool though, the weapons are modelled very well (although I find quite a few are pretty useless), but I feel bogged down when sprinting, even if all I'm holding is a pistol. There's also (STILL) too much "you can see here and could physically get here, but no, invisible wall!".

The Russian story is FANTASTIC (I love the first mission), the American one not so much, but I don't think I'll be playing it again.

I already played the game.

Single player isnt too reallystic comparing with CoD4, that wuz much more intense.
But, of all the pacific WWII games I think is much better, and in some moments you can feel the classic CoD "dang! Im in the war" sensation.
Sound could be better, and graphic also.

He shouldn't have to. COD4 was a pos, why would this be any better?

It's the same, and worse...

The fact that it's sales are so high, only continues to reflect how utterly lame the gaming consumer market is; and how cross platforming only destroys PC gaming development.

But there's money to be made children!

Alright lets take note of a few things..

Game Piracy is up....yet game sales are doubling....
But at the same time COD4 never released for the Wii which could have been helping towards higher game sales.

I dont know if i want to get this game for the Wii or the PC....I mean Im sure it will look just great on my pc and play just as fine if not better than cod5 did. But Im wondering if I can sacrifice alil bit of "looks" for a better time playing the game through the Wii.

edit: COD4 came out for the DS and I didnt even know...wow.

are you serious, COD4 was one of the most intense storylines in a long time, and multiplayer was even better .

Too bad World at War is even more linear and boring than ever. The COD franchise is stale and old, again. Right after IW brought it out of the depths of video game hell (WW2) Activision takes it right back there. WaW is a mediocre game probably only selling well because of the branding and high expectations from the previous game. I played it at my buddy's for a few hours and I really didn't enjoy it at all. Invisible walls? I don't need a thousand different ways to approach a mission but come on, use your imagination a little Treyarch.

There are no moments where I felt like the first time I played the "All Ghillied Up" mission in COD4.

Looks like simple console port on my PC with very poor graphics and I hate console ports. COD4 was SO different - a perfect PC game.
