This SSD situation is getting rediculus.... they all bomb us with promises about affordable prices, that forget to state and expect us to take a bite.... what are they thinking!???:confused:
They should have said : "We made it for the High-End market" not for the average consumer.

30gb should be around $75
60gb should be around $115
120gb should be around $180
but i guess thats too damn much to ask
When thats the same then i will consider buying them. For now i'll stick with HDDs with a 5 year warranty.
ssds are still too new to know exactly how long they will last. most MTBF ratings on ssds are only estimates based on test groups of drives. there are almost no statistics returned from ssds yet so no one has any info to go on as far as longevity is concerned.
I guess we will in about 2-3 years time :). Well have a much better idea anyways.
there are no moving parts which means no wear. based on that fact alone ssds have hdds beat as far as MTBF.
the problem with ssds is nand flash memory is subject to a certain amount of times it can be erased. how fast you get to that point depends on how much you use the drive.
ssds in a web/file server would almost certainly be dead far faster than ssds in my bench rig which is used only a few hours a week.

IMO they need to come out with a crippled SSD controller. Either artificially limit the current controllers or put it on a Sata 150 bus or something. 150MB/s reads and 100MB/s writes. Some hard drives might be able to come close in performance, but the access time on a 'slow' SSD will still be insanely faster than any hard drive. 'Slow' SSDs will still be better than hard drives and would be more affordable....
