ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming Drops to $960, First for a Custom Design

In what could be a sign of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX dropping to sub-$1,000 price points ahead of the crucial Spring-Summer PC gaming season, the ASRock RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming became the first custom-design card based on the top AMD RDNA3 GPU to drop to a three-figure price of $960, which is well below the $999 baseline price AMD set for this SKU. Board partner co-branded AMD reference-design RX 7900 XTX cards in the market are currently selling below the MSRP, and the ASRock Phantom Gaming joins them as the first custom-design card around the $950-mark, with a $959 listing on American PC hardware retailer Newegg. The RX 7900 XTX is AMD's flagship graphics card, and performs competitively with the GeForce RTX 4080 in the majority of gaming graphics workloads made up of raster 3D, but falls behind on real-time ray tracing, where it performs closer to the previous-generation RTX 3090 Ti.

ASRock Intros iBOX Fanless IPCs Powered by 13th Gen "Raptor Lake" Processors

ASRock Industrial released iBOX fanless industrial PCs (IPCs) powered by 13th Gen Intel Core "Raptor Lake" processors. These are completely fanless, and are powered by mobile Intel Core "Raptor Lake" processors in the 15 W to 28 W power class. Their bodies are made of extruded aluminium ridges, which double up as heatsinks for the SoC. All the industrial connectivity essentials are covered, including dual 2.5 GbE wired LAN, provision for WLAN, a handful USB 3.x and USB 2.0 ports, RS232 COM, and some models even feature GPIO. Processor models on offer include the Core i3-1315UE, i5-1345UE, and i7-1375UE. Depending on the processor model and other features, these iBOX IPCs are priced anywhere between $800 to $1,300.

ASRock Launches its AMD A620 Chipset Motherboards

Leading global motherboard manufacturer ASRock proudly announces its new series of AMD A620 motherboards. ASRock A620 Socket AM5 Motherboard Pictured

Cost-effective Socket AM5 motherboards are finally on the horizon, as the first marketing pictures emerged of an ASRock-branded motherboard based on the yet-unreleased AMD A620 chipset. A successor to the A520 and A320, the A620 provides the bare-minimum feature-set for the platform, and cuts out certain premium features such as CPU overclocking. The chipset limits the x16 PEG connection from the processor to Gen 4, although motherboard vendors are free to provide just Gen 3 x16. The CPU-attached M.2 NVMe interface, too, is limited to Gen 4. This ASRock motherboard appears to be offering a Gen 3-capped M.2 NVMe slot, going by the "Hyper M.2" branding that ASRock uses for Gen 3 M.2 slots. The board offers an additional M.2 NVMe slot that's wired to the A620 chipset, and interestingly, an M.2 E-key slot for WLAN modules.

The ASRock A620M-HDV/M.2 from the pictures below, is a Micro-ATX motherboard that draws power from a 24-pin ATX and a single 8-pin EPS. It offers the simplest possible 6-phase CPU VRM, with what look like 50 A DrMOS. Besides the two M.2 NVMe slots, the only storage connectivity on offer are two SATA 6 Gbps ports. Display connectivity include DisplayPort and HDMI. We count at least four type-A USB 3.x ports on the rear I/O, besides one USB type-C, and a USB 3.x internal header. 1 GbE wired networking, and 6-channel HD audio using the most basic CODEC, make for the rest of the connectivity. An interesting touch is USB BIOS Flashback, with a button on the rear I/O, which sets even the oldest inventories of this board up for future-generation Socket AM5 Ryzen processors. Motherboards based on the A620 are expected to be priced well under the $100-mark.

Gigabyte B650 AM5 Motherboard Joins the $125 Crowd

Despite the fact that AMD promised that $125 AM5 are coming, there aren't many such motherboards on the market. The newest addition is the Gigabyte B650M K, which is now available at $124.99. Gigabyte's B650M K will be joining the previously available ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 microATX motherboard, which was the first B650-based motherboard available at $125.

Same as the ASRock motherboard, the Gigabyte B650M K is also a micro-ATX motherboard with the same 8+2+1 VRM, but features four DIMM slots with support for up to 128 GB of DDR5-6400+ memory. Unfortunately, it apparently features two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, rather than a PCIe 5.0 x4, and comes with a single PCI-Express 4.0 x16 slot (in addition to the PCIe 3.0 x1). The rest of the specifications include Realtek's Audio, Realtek 2.5 Gb Ethernet, couple of USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, Type-A, and USB 2.0/1.1 ports, as well as DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 outputs. Bear in mind that both of these are $139.99 motherboards, discounted down to $124.99, so hopefully, we'll see more of these $124.99 motherboards soon.

Intel Arc A750 Price Drops to as Low as $229

The Intel Arc A750 "Alchemist" graphics card now starts at a mouth-watering price of just $229, a price that puts it 7% below the MSRP Intel Graphics set for the SKU, with the reference-design A750 being sold at $250. The new low price is commanded by a custom-design ASRock Arc A750 Challenger, a card that combines Intel's second-fastest GPU with a simple 2-slot, twin-fan cooling solution. Intel has been busy with Game On driver updates for the Arc A-series GPUs, besides a recent massive update to the cards' DirectX 11 and DirectX 9 gaming performance. The company claims that the A750 and A770 offer tremendous performance/Dollar gains over the competing NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 in the mainstream segment, aimed at people who play at 1080p and 1440p. Meanwhile the dark horse in this segment is the AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, with similar real-world prices to the A750, but performance that trades blows with the RTX 3060.

ASRock Intros Blazing M.2 Gen 5 Fan-Heatsink

ASRock today introduced the Blazing M.2 Gen 5 Fan-Heatsink, an active cooling solution for M.2 Gen 5 SSDs, and meant to be paired with the company's Socket AM5 and LGA1700 motherboards that have Gen 5 M.2 slots. The cooler is a 5 cm-tall hunk of extruded aluminium with a 30 mm fan ventilating it at roughly 5 CFM. There are five types of these coolers, each suitable for a particular type of ASRock motherboards. These coolers have been out since December 2022 as inclusions in motherboards, however, ASRock released the types 3, 4, and 5 (from the table below) today. The cooler is said to significantly lower temperatures of SSD controllers, minimizing performance losses to thermal throttling. These coolers are expected to be priced around $30 a pop.

ASRock W790 WS Achieves Multiple Overclocking Records on HWBOT

ASRock, with the help of legendary overclocker Splave have used their new W790 WS to take Intel's Sapphire Rapids based Xeon w7-2495X as high as 5.3 GHz to grab a pile of first place global performance scores on HWBOT. In total they've secured 14 global records in the 24-core category, and 18 more records in the w7-2495X hardware category. What is perhaps slightly more impressive is that they managed to exceed the officially supported DDR5-4800 by 2000 MT/s, achieving a frequency of 3400 MHz (6800 MT/s) with a CAS Latency of 32. The results were all produced with a custom water cooled configuration, with many benchmarks needing below 5 GHz clocks to remain stable enough for validation, so there is certainly room for higher scores under more exotic cooling solutions.

One of the more interesting details presented in the screenshots of certain benchmark results such as Y-Cruncher and Cinebench R15 is the gargantuan power draw exhibited by the w7-2495X. With a rated Vcore of 1.22v the 24-core sucks down over 500 W. We have already seen the 56-core w9-3495X pull a full kilowatt in early overclocking sessions, so the power draw here is not entirely without merit. Needless to say while Intel is finally offering a compelling HEDT lineup of unlocked processors, you may not necessarily be able to squeeze much out of them before tripping your breakers. As for ASRock's records it's still early days for the new Xeon W lineup and there will be a revolving door of world record holders before the final ounce of performance is squeezed from these chips.

ASRock Cuts Prices on Intel Arc Graphics Options

Over the past couple days ASRock has been busy slashing prices on their lineup of Arc graphics cards. Currently (on Newegg at least) you can now find their Challenger Arc A380 for $120, down from $150, the Challenger Arc A750 8 GB at $240, down from $290, and the flagship Phantom Gaming Arc A770 8 GB at $270, down from $320. The new pricing may be in response to prior price drops by Intel, and possibly hints at more to come.

With its new price ASRock's Arc A770 8 GB in particular is placed in a more advantageous position against NVIDIA's RTX 3060 which has only recently seen reduced prices and still lists for well above $300, even $400 for some partner models. AMD is still placed quite competitively thanks to ASRock themselves listing their RX 6600 XT offerings for $275, making the choice between the RX 6600 XT and Arc A770 8 GB a more difficult one. The RX 6650 XT could also be considered as it regularly appears for $290, a mere $20 more than the revised A770 8 GB pricing, and provides a measurable (if minimal) uplift in performance.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT Now Starts at $800 in Direct Clash to RTX 4070 Ti

Prices of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT RDNA3 graphics card are on a downward slope, with the card now starting at $800 on US computer hardware retailer Newegg. The ASRock RX 7900 XT Phantom Gaming, a custom-design graphics card, has been holding at $799.99 for roughly a week now, while the next cheapest card, an XFX co-branded AMD reference graphics card, is going for $839.99 on the site. These prices put the RX 7900 XT in a direct clash with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. The RX 7900 XT was launched with an AMD MSRP of $899.99, with a performance level that compelled NVIDIA to re-position the RTX 4070 Ti (originally announced as the $900 RTX 4080 12 GB), to $800. In our testing, the RX 7900 XT is about 5% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti in conventional raster 3D graphics, but with a ray tracing performance that's comparable to the previous-generation RTX 3080 Ti.

ASRock Intros Blazing Quad M.2 Riser Card: Four Gen 5 M.2 Slots from Your PCIe x16 Slot

ASRock introduced the Blazing Quad M.2 riser card. Motherboard Shipments Drop by Ten Million Units in 2022

The PC industry has been hit hard by the current market conditions and economic downturns, as the entire industry has seen sales of new PCs drop to new lows. Equally so, the PC motherboard makers have experienced a crash in sales, where collectively, they delivered ten million units less in 2022 compared to 2021. Thanks to the information by DigiTimes, we have information that major motherboard makers, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, and ASRock, have seen their sales plummet to new lows and reflect how much of a drop the market experienced in the middle of economic uncertainty that the year 2022 brought.

In 2021, ASUS delivered more than 18 million motherboard units; in 2022, it is down to 13.6 million, representing a 25% difference. GIGABYTE shipped 11 million units in 2021, whereas in 2022, the company delivered around 9.5 million motherboards. GIGABYTE has experienced the smallest drop with "only" 14% lower sales. MSI used to deliver 9.5 million motherboards in 2021, and in 2022 its sales plummeted by 42% to 5.5 million units. The worst drop in sales is the one by ASRock, where the company saw its sales go from around 6 million units in 2021 to just 2.7 million units in 2022. This is the report's most significant recorded drop, equaling 55% lower sales in 2022.

Intel Arc A750 Price Cut—Now Starts at $250

Intel cut the baseline prices of its Arc A750 performance-segment graphics card. The card now starts at USD $249, down from its launch price of $289 for the first-party reference-design card. Among the handful custom-design board partners for the A750 are Acer, Gunnir, and ASRock. The A750 targets maxed-out AAA gaming at 1080p, although the card is capable of higher resolutions with the Intel XeSS performance enhancement.

Based on the 6 nm ACM-G10 silicon, the A750 is endowed with 3,584 unified shaders across 28 Xe Cores or 448 EUs, 224 TMUs, 112 ROPs, and 8 GB of 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory across the chip's full 256-bit wide memory interface (512 GB/s memory bandwidth). The card has a typical board power of 225 W, draws it from a combination of 8-pin and 6-pin PCIe power connectors; and has modern display outputs that include HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 2.1. ASRock Returns to its Roots with Wacky X670 Upgrade Card

For those that don't remember the early days of ASRock, the company started out making some rather unusual motherboards, often with some wild and wacky upgrade paths, such as both a slot and a socket for a CPU or both AGP and PCIe graphics card slots. Since then, ASRock has become a much more mainstream motherboard maker, but the company appears to have gone back to its roots with what the company calls the X670 Xpansion Kit. Right now, the expansion card appears to be working with the B650 LiveMixer motherboard and it's unknown if it's compatible with other models from ASRock. It seems to be limited to ASRock motherboards only, due to the fact that the add-in card requires not only a x4 PCIe slot with all lanes attached, on the motherboard, but also a custom cable that is most likely for "low-speed" I/O's such as I2C, SPI and so on.

As the name suggests, the X670 Xpansion Kit allows B650 motherboards to be turned into X670 motherboards, more or less. The card is home to a second chipset, which enables not only two additional M.2 slots for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, but it also features two SATA ports, a 10 Gbps USB-C port, three USB-A ports and—maybe most interestingly—a 10 Gbps Ethernet interface. It's unclear if this will be a retail product, but the card provided to Level1Techs doesn't appear to be an engineer unit, but a full retail ready product. It's definitely an interesting upgrade path for those that have invested in a B650 motherboard and there's no real reason why this shouldn't work as well as having the second chipset on the motherboard, especially as ASRock appears to have fitted a signal re-driver on the add-in card to make sure the PCIe signals are handled properly.
