G.Skill Unveils New RipJaws series Gaming Peripherals

G.Skill expanded its RipJaws line of gaming peripherals with new KM560 and KM560 MX mechanical gaming keyboards; MX530 and MX570 gaming mice. Positioned a notch below the company's flagship RipJaws KM570 RGB keyboard, the KM560 is a compact "tenkeyless" keyboard (lacks a NUM pad). It comes in three variants, the KM560 (standard), the KM560 MX, and the KM560 RGB. What sets the three apart is the lighting. The standard KM560 lacks any back-light illumination, the KM560 MX features red LED lighting, while the KM560 RGB, as its name suggests, features multi-color RGB LED lighting. The three further come in color variants of black and white, each.

The RipJaws KM560 series keyboard features Cherry MX mechanical switches, although G.Skill didn't mention which kind. Its electronics offer full NKRO (n-key rollover), registering any number of simultaneous button presses, with an active anti-ghosting feature. Besides on-the-fly macro recording, the included software lets you set macros, and on the RGB variant, it also lets you set color for each key, and add lighting profiles. The RipJaws MX530 is the company's new value-segment gaming mouse, providing all the essentials from the company's lineup, including a metal-finish body, a 3,500 dpi sensor, Omron-made main button-switches, RGB LED lighting for the logo and scroll-wheel insert, and a total of 6 programmable buttons. The MX560 is its bigger sibling, with a more precise 7,200 dpi sensor, an LED diffuser that lights up your mousepad, and onboard memory to store your button maps and LED preferences.

G.Skill Takes Trident Z Series Beyond the DDR4-4000 MHz Mark

A brief stroll through G.Skill Computex 2017 booth showed us the company's latest Trident Z series DDR4 memory kits that come with clock speeds way beyond the DDR4-4000 mark. Achieving DDR4-4000 with a 16 GB-dense module is no small feat, and G.Skill has new 2x 16 GB (32 GB) DDR4-4000 Trident Z RGB series memory kits. In the wake of the new LGA2066 platform, one can expect 4x 16 GB kits, too. These modules do DDR4-4000 with timings of 17-17-18-38 CR2T. G.Skill has three higher clock speeds targeted with its lineup, DDR4-4200, DDR4-4400, DDR4-4800, though using 8 GB modules.

The Trident Z RGB DDR4-4200 runs at 19-21-21-41, and comes in dual-channel 16 GB (2x 8 GB), and quad-channel 32 GB (4x 8 GB) and 64 GB (8x 8 GB) kits. Next up, is the Trident Z RGB DDR4-4400, with timings of 19-19-19-39, and available in the same capacities. A step higher is the DDR4-4800 Kit. This kit has the same timings as the DDR4-4400 kit, with 19-19-19-39. These four kits require Intel machines with XMP 2.0 to run at their advertised speeds.

AMD Readies Ryzen AGESA Update to Improve DDR4 Memory Support

AMD is giving final touches to the latest update of AGESA micro-code of its Ryzen processors, which will improve DDR4 memory support, enabling higher memory clocks and tighter timings. The new AGESA 1.0.0.6 micro-code will be deployed through motherboard vendors as motherboard BIOS updates. It will add over 20 new registers for the "Summit Ridge" integrated memory controllers, to improve compatibility with "Intel-friendly" DDR4 memory brands.

Until now, AMD recommended PC builders to opt for only certain brands of DDR4 memory for best performance. These included memory modules with Samsung "B die" DRAM chips, such as the G.Skill Flare X series. The new AGESA update will let AMD Ryzen processor users to manually dial up DRAM clocks and tighten timings of a broader range of DDR4 memory kits, more reliably, and hopefully iron out a lot of stability issues associated with memory overclocking.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600X Overclocked to 5.90 GHz

New processor launches are closely followed by clock-speed and benchmark records, and that applies to even AMD's Ryzen 5 1600X six-core processor. Professional overclocker Der8auer succeeded in overclocking the chip to 5905.64 MHz without having to disable any cores. The feat was possible due to liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling. The clock was made possibly by running the chip with a base-clock of 129.79 MHz, and a multiplier of 45.5X. The core-voltage is unclear. The processor was paired with an ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard, and G.Skill Trident Z memory.

AMD Shares Details on Ryzen DDR4 Memory Support and Upcoming AM4 Updates

In a blog post titled "Tips for Building a Better AMD Ryzen System", AMD has shed some light on the current memory support quirks with their Ryzen CPUs. First interesting detail: Ryzen processors do not offer memory dividers for DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3400. As such, AMD recommends that users looking to use higher memory speeds with their Ryzen processors instead look towards 3200 or 3500 MT/s. Due to Ryzen's preferences when it comes to memory, AMD also recommends that users pay particular attention to motherboard vendor's memory QVL lists for speeds greater than DDR4-2667.

Remember RAM importance on Ryzen processors' performance, which is given newfound importance in alleviating possible bottlenecks related to AMD's Data Fabric, the interconnect technology being used to communicate between different CCX's in AMD's 8-core Ryzen 7 and upcoming 6-core Ryzen 5 processors. Higher data rate of your memory subsystem should better help Ryzen's inter-core communication, and thus allow for higher performance in multiple scenarios, more so than with any other current CPU architecture.
