Gigabyte Intros N550-powered Convertible Tablet Notebook

The next company to jump into the Intel Atom N550 bandwagon is Gigabyte, with its rather premium GA-T1005M tablet PC. This convertible tablet has 10.1 inch screen with native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, and capacitive multitouch features. It is backed by Windows 7 Home Premium to take advantage of the touchscreen. Under its hood is the Atom N550 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB of DDR3 memory, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, 320 GB HDD; connectivity which includes WiFi b/g/n, gigabit Ethernet, 3.5G HSDPA, and Bluetooth 2.1. Expansion is care of a number of USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot, and a 4-in-1 media card reader. A 1.3 megapixel camera is embedded on top of the screen, and the 6-cell battery makes for the rest of it. Gigabyte's tablet is expected to cost around US $800.

Gigabyte Intros GA-D425TUD Mini-ITX Motherboard

Gigabyte is designing a new mini-ITX motherboard that's modeled almost entirely around the GA-D525TUD, albeit with the single-core Intel Atom D425 "Pineview-D" processor, called the GA-D425TUD. The Atom D425 is a single-core chip with two logical CPUs enabled by HyperThreading technology, which has an integrated memory controller and graphics controller. It is paired with the Intel NM410 chipset.

The processor is cooled by an active fan-heatsink, while the tiny chipset makes do with a heatsink to match its size. The processor is wired to two memory slots for single-channel DDR3 memory. While the NM410 gives out two SATA 3 Gb/s ports, an additional Gigabyte GSATA2 PCI-Express controller gives out two more SATA 3 Gb/s ports with RAID support, and an IDE connector supporting two IDE devices. The lone expansion slot is a PCI. Connectivity includes 6-channel HD audio, gigabit Ethernet, COM/LPT ports, D-Sub for display, and a number of USB 2.0 ports. The board makes use of high-quality components with Ultra Durable 3 construction. Expect it to cost a lesser than GA-D525TUD which goes for 79 EUR.

Gigabyte Intros Power Rock Series Value PSUs

Gigabyte unveiled a series of value power supply units under the Power Rock brand, which it showed off at this year's Computex event. These are available in 300W, 350W, 400W, and 500W variants. Being ATX +12V v2.2 compliant, these have two +12V rails and are actively cooled. The units measure 150 x 140 x 86 mm. Of these, only the 400W and 500W variants feature active PFC and 80 Plus certification. Gigabyte did not give out a pricing scheme though one can expect them to be very cheap.

Corsair Launches Single Rank Ultra-High-Speed DDR3 DIMMs, DDR3-2625 MHz Capable

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced the launch of Dominator GT GTX6 DDR3 memory, an ultra-high-speed PC3-21000 single-rank 1GB DDR3 DIMM. These modules are among the fastest available in the world today, and are designed for CPU and memory benchmarking as well as for world record attempts.

The GTX6 is tested on the Gigabyte P55A-UD5 motherboard with BIOS Revision F10 at a clock speed of 2625 MHz. Specially selected Intel Core i7-860 and Core i7-870 CPUs are used to achieve these memory frequencies. While 2625 MHz is the test specification for a single module, we have found in the lab that speeds as high as 2600 MHz can typically be achieved when testing as a pair. For ultimate performance, using a CPU cooled using liquid nitrogen, we were able to hit 2976 MHz; see our blog for images and screen shots.

Gigabyte Readies HD 5750 Silent Cell Graphics Card

Gigabyte displayed a new non-reference Radeon HD 5750 based graphics card that boasts of being silent (passive cooling) that's also up to 18 °C cooler than the reference active cooler. The GV-R575SL-1GI or Gigabyte HD 5750 Silent Cell uses a large passive heatsink that spans across two slots and is a little taller than the card itself. The cooler is an aluminum fin array to which heat is conducted by three copper heat pipes. Display outputs include dual DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI, and it can pair with any other Radeon HD 5700 series graphics card. The card draws all its power from the PCI-E slot. Like every other Radeon HD 5750 card, it has 720 stream processors, is DirectX 11 compliant, and uses 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface.

Gigabyte Ready with GTX 470 SuperOverclock

Gigabyte displayed its high-end non-reference GeForce GTX 470 based graphics card, the GTX 470 SuperOverclock (GV-N470SO-13I). The card is built using Gigabyte's Ultra Durable VGA Plus (UDV+) technology, and makes use of a 12+2 phase VRM, because of which the PCB is about as long as a GTX 480. The GPU and memory chips used are said to be hand-picked (by binning), to have the highest overclocking potential. The GPU cooler used is no less complex, making use of a large aluminum fin array that's cooled by three fans that's are slightly inclined to reduce turbulence. The monolithic VRM+chipset cooler has a water-block for better cooling. Other expansion slots include one PCI-E x1, and two PCI. The usual plethora of connectivity features, such as dual Gigabit Ethernet, USB 3.0, SATA 6 Gb/s, eSATA, and 7.1 channel HD audio, are also present. Expect this board to be out in 2011.

Gigabyte Rolls Out Twin-Fan GeForce GTX 465

Gigabyte rolled out its first graphics card based on NVIDIA's newest GPU, the GeForce GTX 465. The card features Gigabyte's own design, which makes use of the Ultra Durable VGA construction, a combination of PCB with 2 oz thick copper layers, Japanese solid-state capacitors, grade 1 memory chips, ferrite-core chokes and low RDS on MOSFETs. The cooler uses a large aluminum fin block which is cooled by two 80 mm fans. Though geared for overclocking, the card comes with NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 607/1215/3206 MHz (core/shader/memory). The GTX 465 SKU is derived from the GF100 die, it features 352 CUDA cores, and 1 GB of GDDR5 memory across a 256-bit wide interface. It is priced at a standard $279.

Corsair Launches Outrageously Fast GTX 2533 MHz DDR3 Memory

Each RAM chip is individually screened and graded for performance. The top few percent are set aside for assembly onto GTX4 modules, the balance are returned to normal manufacturing. Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9 Pictured

Gigabyte's upcoming extreme high-end motherboard that made news for being the foundation of some world-record overclocking feats based on the Core i7 980X EE processor, the GA-X58A-UD9, has finally faced the lens. The picture reveals a beastly-looking socket LGA-1366 motherboard featuring a very strong VRM and full-on PCI-Express connectivity. The CPU is powered by what appears to be a 24-phase VRM, which draws power from two 8-pin connectors. It is wired to six DDR3 DIMM slots for triple-channel memory.

The heatsinks over the CPU VRM are connected to the those over the chipset with heatpipes, the heatsink over the X58 chipset has a fusion cooler which can provide water-cooling, as well as attach to a Silent Pipe heatsink block. The heatsink over the ICH10R southbridge is about as big as the ones on the UD5, Extreme, and UD7 models. We expect there to be one or two nForce 200 bridge chips over the two x16 links from the X58 chipset, giving out a total of four x16 links. All 7 expansion slots are PCI-Express x16, looking at the three blocks of external PCI-E lane switches, there indeed are three x16 links split between six slots, and the 7th being a full x16 slot. So the electrical configuration could be x16/x8, x8, x16/x8, x8, x16/x8, x8, x16, for the seven slots.

Gigabyte Readies GA-890FXA-UD7 High-End AMD Motherboard

Gigabyte is looking to share some of its latest innovations in motherboard design with its AMD platform lineup, with a new enthusiast-grade motherboard in the works that rivals up with some of the company's highest-end products from its Intel platform lineup. The GA-890FXA-UD7 is the newest in the league. The model stays above the recently revealed GA-890FXA-UD5. It is a socket AM3 motherboard geared up for AMD's newest six-core processors, based on AMD 890FX + SB850 chipset. It has six PCI-Express slots (electrical: x16/x8, x4, x8, x4, x16/x8, x8), and supports 4-way ATI CrossFireX. The CPU is powered by a 10-phase VRM, with 2-phase memory VRM.

For the first time on the AMD platform, Gigabyte uses its Hybrid Silent-Pipe cooler. The cooler connects the CPU VRM, 890FX northbridge, and SB850 southbridge using a heatpipe, and the heatsink over the northbridge has provision for a water-block (included), or a large and complex aluminum heatsink that fits into the top expansion slot. The SB850 natively supports six SATA 6 Gb/s ports complete with RAID 0,1,5,10 support. An additional GSATA2 controller gives out two SATA 3 Gb/s ports and the IDE connector. Connectivity includes 8+2 channel HD audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF connectors, two gigabit Ethernet controllers, two USB 3.0 ports, a number of USB 2.0 ports, and FireWire. It is expected to be out in a month.

Gigabyte Readies Feature-Packed Mini-ITX LGA1156 Motherboard

Gigabyte is readying a new motherboard in the mini-ITX form-factor which is bound to surprise some with its feature-set. The GA-H55N-USB3 is a socket LGA1156 motherboard based on the Intel H55 chipset, supporting the entire range of LGA1156 processors with a powerful 4+2 phase VRM. The socket is wired to two DDR3 DIMM slots for dual-channel memory, which is powered by its own 2-phase circuit. Gigabyte was able to accommodate five SATA channels by the chipset, making space for one eSATA, and four internal SATA 3 Gb/s ports with RAID support.

Its lone expansion slot is a full-bandwidth PCI-Express 2.0 x16, while being based on the H55 chipset, it also supports Intel Flexible Display Interface for processors with embedded graphics. On its connectivity front it doesn't make many compromises either, with 8+2 channel HD audio with optical SPDIF connector, a two-port USB 3.0 controller giving out two USB SuperSpeed ports, gigabit Ethernet, Keyboard/Mouse combo PS/2, four USB 2.0 ports on the rear-panel + four by internal headers, and display connectivity which includes DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. The GA-H55N-USB3 is expected to be out in April.

Gigabyte Closes ASUS' Motherboard Shipment Lead, Could Trigger Price War

According to industry sources, motherboard major Gigabyte is closing the gap between it and ASUS in terms of motherboard shipments, so much so, that the two industry giants could entangle in a price-war. Gigabyte's shipments are estimated by market observers to have reached 3.1 to 3.3 million in the first two months of 2010, while that of ASUS for the same period were estimated to be 3.2 to 3.3 million.

To maintain its vulnerable lead, ASUS may shortly cut prices across the board and that could trigger a price-war in the motherboard industry, say sources in channel vendors. ASUS is currently planning to reshuffle some of its staff in the motherboard business unit. While ASUS refused to comment in this issue, Gigabyte said that the estimates concerning it are very close to the company's internal figures.

Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 Pictured

At the ongoing CeBIT event, Gigabyte showed off its latest offer of motherboards including an interesting one based on AMD's upcoming 890FX chipset. Made for socket AM3 processors from AMD, the GA-890FXA-UD5 is based on the AMD 890FX chipset with SB850 southbridge. It expands a little on the chipset's features. The CPU is powered by a 10-phase VRM. It is wired to four DDR3 memory slots that are powered by a 2-phase VRM. The AMD 890FX drives four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots (electrical x8 when all are populated, x16 on alternate slots otherwise). There are two PCI-E x1 and one PCI. All six of the SATA 6 Gb/s ports from the southbridge are internal, while an additional GSATA2 controller gives out two SATA 3 Gb/s ports, and drives the IDE connector. Connectivity options include 8+2 channel audio with Dolby Home Theater, two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, FireWire, and two USB 3.0 ports, apart from a number of USB 2.0 ports. The board is expected to release later next month.

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H Motherboard Gets Listed

American retailer Newegg.com has started listing Gigabyte's GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard, one of the first motherboards based on the AMD 890GX + SB850 chipset. This socket AM3 motherboard boasts of native SATA 6 Gb/s support, USB 3.0, Radeon HD 4250 integrated graphics, at a price of $139.99. The GA-890GPA-UD3H supports socket AM3 AMD Athlon II and Phenom II series processors, including support for the upcoming Phenom II X6 six-core processors. It also supports dual-channel DDR3 memory at speeds of over 1866 MHz by overclocking. Expansion slots include two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 (electrical x8/x8 when both are populated), three PCI-E x1, and two PCI, bringing CrossfireX support. The SB850 gives out six SATA 6 Gb/s ports with RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 10, and JBOD modes. An NEC-made USB 3.0 controller also provides two USB 3.0 ports. The IGP connects to displays over D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI. Presumably, this could be the starting point for more AMD 890GX based motherboards to reach stores world over.

ATI AIBs Ready with Radeon HD 5830 Accelerators

AMD's ATI add-in-board partners (AIBs) will be ready with non-reference design graphics cards based on the Radeon HD 5830 GPU as soon as the GPU is announced, on the 25th, later this month. A few of them are pictured below. Not all of them seemed to be factory-overclocked, but do seem so come with impressive GPU coolers. To begin with, Gigabyte reused its Radeon HD 5870 SuperOverclock design for its HD 5830 card, which boasts of Ultra Durable VGA construction (2 oz copper layer PCB, ferrite core chokes, low RDS (on) MOSFETs, and "Tier 1 GDDR5 memory chips").

Next up, is the Sapphire HD 5830. Its board design resembles non-reference design HD 5850 accelerators. PowerColor joins the league with a PCS+ HD 5830 right away. Again, a reuse of its PCS+ board for HD 5850 and HD 5870. While the card by HIS isn't pictured, its box shot shows that the company will offer a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game bundle with its HD 5830. XFX also has its box pictured.

These and several other capabilities are at the heart of many new Intel-based business laptop and desktop computers beginning to roll out from computer manufacturers worldwide.

The Intel Core vPro processors arrive as business computing evolves with the emergence of video, Internet telephony, social networking and other heavyweight applications - in many cases running at the same time - making a computer's performance an even bigger priority.

Athlon II X2 255 Reaches 4.80 GHz

Renowned overclocker Chew* set a speed record for AMD's new value dual-core processor, the Athlon II X2 255. Based on the Regor core, the X2 255 is a monolithic dual-core chip, with just two physical cores on die, and additional L2 cache, with no L3 cache. This cuts the TDP of the chip to 65W. On the bench built by Chew*, the X2 255 reached 4800.1 MHz, with a BClk of 320.01 MHz, multiplied by 15.0. The chip's natural multiplier value is 15.5x, its stock speed is 3.10 GHz. A VCore of 1.696 Volts was set.

The processor was cooled using a Mach 1 phase cooler. The bench consisted of an Athlon II X2 255, Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H motherboard - another mainstream component which proved its mettle, OCZ DDR3 1600 MHz Black Edition certified memory, PC Power & Cooling 1200W PSU, and ATI Radeon HD 4890 graphics. In the same occasion, Chew* could overclock the chip to 4050 MHz using a reference AMD CPU cooler (which comes bundled with higher-end AMD chips). More pictures at the source.

Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD7 Final Design Candidate Pictured

Gigabyte's top of the line socket LGA-1156 motherboard, GA-P55A-UD7 just got a face-lift before release to the market. The GA-P55A-UD7 was pictured in its production form as early as in November, 2009. The retail model has notable changes from the production version. To begin with, GA-P55A series motherboard are characterized with SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3.0 support. The new GA-P55A-UD7 has four PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots instead of three on the production one. The four slots are connected to an NVIDIA nForce 200 PCI-E bridge chip, which is connected to the processor. The two x16 links from this chip can be split into four x8 links for each slot. A PLX-made bridge chip provides additional PCI-Express 2.0 lanes (probably connected to the P55 PCH), to drive the USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb/s controllers.

The area south of the CPU socket (typically where you expect a northbridge to be located in older generation motherboards), has the nForce 200 and PLX bridge chips. This is cooled by a fusion heatsink which can be connected to a water-cooling loop. It can also offload heat from the CPU VRM and PCH heatsinks. Of the ten internal SATA ports, six are 3 Gb/s ports provided by the P55 PCH, two 3 Gb/s ports from a Gigabyte GSATA2 controller (which also gives out an IDE connector), and two 6 Gb/s ports from a Marvell-made controller. Other features include two color-coded blue USB 3.0 ports, several USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and 8-channel HD Audio with optical and coaxial SPDIF outputs.
