NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 256MB Tested

Expreview has tested the trimmed down GeForce 8800 GT 256MB. Using Core 2 Quad Q6700@3GHz and ASUSTeK P5E3 Deluxe/Wifi-AP motherboard with DDR3-1066 6-6-6-18-1T they've managed to compare the 256MB GT with ATI Radeon 3850 256MB (Catalyst 7.11 hotfix), NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (ForceWare 169.02 WHQL) and NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB (ForceWare 163.75 WHQL).

XFX Announces GeForce 8800 GT 256MB

It appears that XFX will be the first manufacturer to introduce 256MB version of GeForce 8800 GT. The GeForce 8800 GT 256MB (available in standard and XXX Editions) looks identical and has all the features of its big brother 8800 GT 512MB. The only difference should appear under the cooler, where the memory chips are situated. The cards will be marking its debut as of next week, landing in retailers for an expected reseller price of 149 € excluding VAT.

Zotac Working on New GeForce 8800 GT with Water Cooling

Expreview has obtained some information on a future Zotac product that will use a reference GeForce 8800 GT PCB with Samsung 1.0ns GDDR3 memories and Nippon Chemi-con(NCC) capacitors, instead of the present Qimenda GDDR3 memory chips. Scheduled to be available in late November, the card will be factory overclocked to 700/2000MHz (core/memory) and will probably feature stand alone water cooling.

NVIDIA Lists 512MB 8800 GTS

NVIDIA has accidently listed something on one of its web pages which would seem to support the story posted two days ago regarding the possibility of a new 8800 GTS based on the same G92 graphics processor as the 8800 GT. Originally shown on this page (although it's now been removed), NVIDIA let slip that it may be planning a 512MB 8800 GTS, which would seem to agree with the idea of a 256-bit version of the card. Admittedly it's not concrete evidence, but it definitely sounds suspiciously like a G92 8800 GTS could well be on the cards. The extract in question is shown at the bottom of the screenshot, and reads as follows:
5. HD DVD / Blu-ray Video Playback on NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB and 8800 GT is classified as Excellent. HD DVD / Blu-ray Video Playback on NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra, GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB/640MB are classified as Good.
So it might be worth waiting before buying an 8800 GT if these cards are just around the corner.

GeForce 8800 GT 256MB GDDR3 Comes Next Week?

If you look here, you'll see that the 256MB version of NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GT graphics card will be available next Friday, November 9. You can also preorder the card now and pay £146.86 inc VAT for it. The GeForce 8800 GT 256MB GDDR3 has the same stock freqs and specs as its big brother.

Thermalright Releases HR-03 GT for GeForce 8800 GT

Thermalright has decided to release a new product in its HR-03 series. The new addition is the HR-03 GT with 6 heatpipes and a double sided heatsink base which can accommodate one 92mm fan. The HR-03 GT measures 134.5(L) x 163(W) x 112(H) mm, weights 130 grams and is SLI compatible. The cooler works with NVIDIA's GeForce 6800, 7800, 7900, 8600GTS series and the 8800GT 512MB plus ATI's X1800 and X1900 series.

NVIDIA Planning More from the G92

After the success of the new GeForce 8800 GT, it looks like NVIDIA could have another card based on the same G92 core planned for later this year. Dubbed the new 8800 GTS (yes, I know it's confusing - hopefully that will change) the new G92 card will feature 128 shader units instead of the 112 on the 8800 GT, which would suggest they could well exist on current 8800 GT cards and have been disabled for marketing or yield purposes. As it features a 256-bit memory interface it will go back to the more common 512MB and 1024MB memory blocks, and given how impressively the 8800 GT performs it's expected it may be able to surpass NVIDIA's 8800 GTX and possibly even the Ultra - NVIDIA's two best cards. The card is expected to launch just after AMD's Radeon HD 3800, and could well spoil the show for AMD if it performs as well as the speculation suggests.

Palit Unveils Own Designed GeForce 8800 GT With 3-phase Power

Palit Microsystems is launching today an own designed GeForce 8800 GT based graphics card that does not follow NVIDIA's reference design. Palit's GeForce 8800 GT is also different from its competitors as it comes with non stock GPU cooling solution and 3-phase power supply system that should improve overclocking. Other specifications include the standard GeForce 8800 GT 112 stream processors, 512MB GDDR3 memory with 256-bit memory interface, 600MHz core speed, 1800MHz memory clock and PCI Express 2.0 support.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT Vs. 8800 Ultra, 3DMark06 Comparison

The guys over at Expertview are sending new set of benchmark scores, this time comparing the GeForce 8800 GT video card to its big brother GeForce 8800 Ultra 768MB. Using Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600@3600MHz, nForce 650i Ultra motherboard, 2GB of DDR2 memory at 800MHz with CL5-5-5-15 timings, ForceWare 167.26 beta and Windows XP SP2, the 512MB version of GeForce 8800 GT have reached 9648 marks while the GeForce 8800 Ultra 768MB video card have topped out 11611 marks. Both 3DMark06 runs are performed using 1280x1024 resolution with 4x AA and 8x AF. The GeForce 8800 GT is set to be released on October 29th.

NVIDIA G92 GPU Launch Date Brought Forward

NVIDIA is bringing forward the launch date of its upcoming GeForce 8800 GT (G92) GPU to October 29th from the original November 12th, targeting AMD's new Radeon HD 2950PRO (RV670) as the major competitor, according to DigiTimes. With G92 and RV670 having a tight performance/price ratio, NVIDIA's earlier launch should give the company an advantage in the market. In addition to G92, NVIDIA will also launch the G98 GPU to replace the GeForce 8600 series, however the launch date has not yet been set.
