Apple and NVIDIA released a new graphics upgrade kit today. From now on all first-generation Mac Pro users can swap their old video card with NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT GPU for as much as $279. When Apple first released Mac Pro in January 2008, they offered the GeForce 8800 GT as an upgrade option, however due to firmware issues, the 8800 GT was not compatible with first Mac Pros - until today. "Adding a GeForce 8800 GT to the first-generation Mac Pro system will deliver a major graphics boost, resulting in faster processing for a complete range of visual computing applications." North American customers can purchase the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT upgrade kit online from NVIDIA or the Apple Store for $279. Consumers outside of the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada should order from the Apple Store.

Official NVIDIA partner EVGA has released a new e-GeForce 8800GT 1024MB G92-powered card part of the AKIMBO line-up. The AKIMBO cards feature a dual-slot cooling system that resembles the stock 8800 GTS 512MB cooler, and strangly enough all AKIMBO cards have standard clocks. The new 1GB GeForce 8800 GT model has 112 Stream Processors set to 1500MHz, a GPU clocked at 600MHz and GDDR3 memory at 1800MHz. The card is in stock now for $299.99.

XFX, one of the main NVIDIA GeForce graphics card manufacturers, has decided to try and outsell rivals by cutting prices on its 8800 GT, 8800 GS and 9600 GT cards. All three standard versions of the cards will now be $30 cheaper thanks to mail-in rebates being offered by online retailers such as Newegg and TigerDirect. This means that the 512MB 8800 GT will now sell for $189 including a copy of Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, the 384MB 8800 GS will now cost $119.99 and the 9600 GT has a new price tag of $149. The overclocked versions of the 8800 GS and 9600 GT are also seeing price drops of $30 and $20 respectively, which means they will now be sold for $139.99 and $179.

American high-end memory manufacturer Mushkin has revealed that it is working on a new GeForce 8800 GT version, the 8800 GT G92 512 Mushkin HP Overclocked Edition v2. Mushkin has equipped the card with custom dual-slot cooler and 512MB GDDR3 memory clocked at 1900 MHz. The core frequency for this model has also been changed to 675MHz from the standard 600MHz. Other unique features come with the card's bundle, where you'll find a Mushkin T-shirt and USB flash drive with drivers. Expect HP Overclocked Edition 8800 GT v2 later this month for around 260 Euros.

GIGABYTE has stealthy released two new G92 cards. The fresh GeForce 8800 GT cards all have a blue PCB, a new dual-slot cooler and a few other software and hardware updates, that distinguish them from the competitiors. The 256MB GV-NX88T256H and 512MB GV-NX88T512HP are both "Gamer HUD" cards. Gamer HUD is GIGABYTE's latest video card technology which consists of a power control VGO chip built into the graphics card and Windows software that allows you to adjust the GPU voltage for 3D gaming or 2D environment. Changing the core voltage will also allow you to find your optimal clock frequencies.

Club 3D the European graphic card specialist, annouced today a new high-end model Club 3D 8800GT 512MB (CGNX-G882DDF) based on the NVIDIA G92 chipset with a special radial heatpipe cooling solution. This cooling system is more effective than the original stock cooling, which results in lower noise and better core temps. Other that that, the card ships with default 600/1800MHz core/memory clock speeds.

Right before the opening of the upcoming CES, graphics manufacturers are starting to show 1024MB versions of GeForce 8800GT. First to do that in public this time is Zotac with their redesigned GeForce 8800GT 1024MB GDDR3. While not AMP edition, the card utilizes orange PCB and 8 Qimonda GDDR3 memory chips. NVIDIA recently contacted its graphics card partners asking them to reduce the number PCB board layers used in GeForce 8800 GT-based graphics cards from ten to six in order to reduce manufacturing costs and so lower the card's ASP (average selling price) in the market. The redesign would allow the NVIDIA cards to compete in terms of pricing with AMD's Radeon HD 3800 series products. Although the Radeon HD 3800 series was launched three weeks later than the GeForce 8800 GT, Radeon 3800 demand has started to pick up, bringing the market shares of NVIDIA and AMD from 90% and 10%, originally, to 70% and 30%. If the PCB layers are reduced from ten to six, graphics card makers are expected to save more than US$10 for each card, which would allow the NVIDIA products to go into price competition with those of AMD. Despite the cost benefits, some graphics card makers are unhappy with NVIDIA's suggestion, pointing out that the chip maker is in effect asking them to do the job of improving the price/performance ratio of its products, while preserving its own profit margins. NVIDIA responded in saying that the redesign is only a suggestion which it believes is the best solution to meet the current market conditions. Card makers will not be forced to implement the change, the company stressed.

Following VVIKOO's 1GB offering, Micro-Star International (MSI) has now announced its very own NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT Series GPU (NX8800GT) with 1GB of GDDR3 memory. The new video card offers double the amount of memory of a regular 8800 GT and features non-reference cooling solution that is very similar if not identical to that of the 8800 GTS 512. No word on card release date and pricing.

The Paris-based GeForce manufacturer VVIKOO, has just announced a new graphics card based on the 65nm G92 GPU. The GeForce 8800GT MAX is just what its name suggests, a non-reference card that features all-copper Zalman cooler (VF1000) that takes up two slots and 1GB of GDDR3 memory working at stock frequency (1800MHz). According to VVIKOO, the Zalman cooler drops the GPU idle temps down from 60'C to 40'C, while when in load the drop is from 89'C to 54'C. The GeForce 8800GT MAX's price tag has not been announced.

The new family of video cards only includes one product for starters, the MSI NX8800GT Zilent Series, a GeForce 8800 GT card equipped with a VF1000 cooler that has aluminum fins (as opposed to the regular VF1000 which is all-copper). The new dual-slot cooled card is said to be 9% cooler and 20% quieter than the standard GT's. No price tag and release data have been unveild.

EVGA has released new BIOS's for all EVGA 8800GT's making some adjustments to the fanspeed autosensor. Basically the fanspeed ramps up quicker, and more gradually as the temperature increases. This update can lower the GPU operating temperature by about 10'C under load. All new EVGA shipping boards will have this change in place, while all users who have already purchased the cards will need to update their BIOS manually. Just like ASUS last week, Gainward has today announced a 1GB version of the GeForce 8800 GT, known as Bliss 8800GT 1024MB. The card features a 650MHz core clock and 256-bit 1900MHz GDDR3 memory.

EVGA has become the latest manufacturer to launch a 256MB version of NVIDIA's popular 8800 GT graphics card, which features 112 stream processors and full DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 support. EVGA's e-GeForce 8800 GT 256MB features a core clock frequency of 650MHz (compared to NVIDIA's reference speed of 600MHz) and memory running at 1.8GHz (compared to NVIDIA's reference speed of 1.5GHz). The card is available now, with full specs shown in the table below.

Elitegroup Computer Systems or Elitegroup for short released today its latest GeForce 8800GT Dual Turbo graphics card. Compared to other NVIDIA 8800GT competitors, ECS N8800GT Dual Turbo version adopts Arctic Cooling's S1 heatsink. S1 has increased surface of heat dissipation around thirty times larger than the stock GeForce 8800GT cooling, which makes the cooler extremely efficient. Furthermore, ECS 8800GT Dual Turbo Version Graphics Card is equipped with two high performance low-noise fans. According to ECS, this type of cooling lowers the operating temps under load vastly, from 91°C for the regular cooling down to 64°C for the AC S1 GeForce 8800GT Dual Turbo.
