EVGA RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN to Require Dual 12-pin Connectors, 975W Capability

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is real, and coming to gamers miners within Q1 2022. The new SKU maxes out NVIDIA's largest silicon based on the GeForce "Ampere" graphics architecture, the GA102, and pairs it with even faster 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory; but these changes come at a significant impact on power, with the typical board power for a stock RTX 3090 Ti reportedly being rated at 450 W, compared to the 350 W value of the RTX 3090. For enthusiast-class custom-design boards such as the EVGA KINGPIN, this only means even more elaborate setups, as QuasarZone forums found out.

While the current RTX 3090 KINGPIN comes with three 8-pin PCIe power connectors, a configuration capable of delivering up to 525 W (including the PCIe slot), the new RTX 3090 Ti KINGPIN ropes in the small but mighty 12-pin Molex MicroFit 3.0 connector, and comes with not one, but two of them! NVIDIA debuted the 12-pin connector in the consumer space with its RTX 30-series Founders Edition graphics cards. The connector is capable of delivering 450 W of power. With two of these on the RTX 3090 Ti, you're looking at a maximum power input capability of 975 W! It's only now, that PSUs are shipping with 12-pin cables, and even the high-Wattage ones we've come across, only pack one such connector. The EVGA card could hence include several dual- or triple-8-pin to 12-pin adapter cables. Pictured below is the RTX 3090 KINGPIN.

Japanese OEM Tosses Out GTX TITAN X Heatsink for AIO Liquid Cooler

Japanese OEM gaming PC builder Sycom addressed the biggest shortcoming of reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN X - heat (which runs into a thermal throttle too often), and the resulting noise (rivaling that of a Radeon R9 290X reference), by innovating a new all-in-one liquid cooling solution. Found on the company's G-Master Hydro series gaming desktops, these modified GTX TITAN X cards look reference, except a cut-out on its top, through which coolant tubes pass through.

The loop itself appears to be basic Asetek fare, with a round pump-block cooling the GPU, with its heat being dissipated by a 120 mm x 120 mm radiator. The memory and VRM is cooled by a base-plate that's ventilated by the NVTTM (NVIDIA time-to-market) reference cooler's main blower. Given that the GPU will run cool, we imagine that the blower will not be as noisy. NVIDIA restricts its add-in card partners from coming up with custom-design cards, but this mod appears to be by an OEM, and these cards won't be sold in the retail channel. It could fall into the same gray area that allows EVGA to sell its HydroCopper variants.

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 HydroCopper Pictured

With the GeForce GTX 980 HydroCopper, EVGA changed the "HydroCopper" brand. In earlier generations, HydroCopper denoted a factory-overclocked reference PCB, with a factory-fitted, full-coverage water-block, which you added to a liquid-cooling loop of your own. The new card comes with its very own closed-loop cooler, much like AMD's reference Radeon R9 295X2.

The card's cooler features a metal base-plate which conveys heat drawn from the memory and VRM, in part to the centrally located pump-block, and in part to an aluminium fin stack. A common lateral-flow blower ventilates the two. The central pump-block looks typical Asetek fare, with a pair of tubes driving coolant to and from the reservoir+radiator assembly, which is ventilated by a single 120 mm fan. The underlying PCB appears to be reference NVIDIA.

EVGA Also Launches Five GeForce GTX TITAN Black Models

EVGA also launched no less than five GeForce GTX TITAN Black graphics card models, spanning between NVIDIA's reference board design, and the company's own HydroCopper cooling solution that's ready for liquid cooling. The series begins with the $999 GTX TITAN Black base model, which sticks to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 889/980/7000 MHz (core/boost/memory); followed by the GTX TITAN Black SC, featuring clock speeds of 967/1072/7000 MHz, and a $1019.99 price tag; the GTX TITAN Black SC Signature with similar clocks but added goodies, priced at $1069.99; the GTX TITAN Black HydroCopper, featuring a staggering 1006/1111/7000 MHz clock speeds and its Signature variant. EVGA didn't finalize pricing on the HydroCopper duo, yet.

EVGA Unveils GTX Titan HydroCopper Signature Series Graphics Cards

Even as every other AIC partner is under strict directions not to modify GeForce GTX Titan board design, NVIDIA pet EVGA released pictures of its upcoming GTX Titan Signature SC HydroCopper graphics card (model: 06G-P4-2795-KR), the first GTX Titan with a full coverage water block pre-installed. Co-developed by Swiftech, EVGA's block uses nickel-plated copper as its primary material, with a secsi black shroud running the card's entire length. In addition to the 7.1 billion-transistor GPU, the block cools memory chips and VRM components on the obverse side of the PCB. The reverse side gets a back-plate. EVGA did not disclose clock speeds, but the SC (super-clocked) brand extension suggests it ships with a factory-overclock. EVGA didn't disclose its price, but we expect it to be around US $1,300.

EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Launched, Five Models

EVGA kicked off its GeForce GTX 680 lineup with no less than five models. The Into, SC, FTW, Classified, and HydroCopper. Intro is the absolute base model, with fanatic adherence to NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 1006/1056/6000 MHz (core/boost/memory effective) and board design; SC (or SuperClocked) is a factory-overclocked model that has slightly higher clock speeds, and augments the NVIDIA reference design with an EVGA-exclusive backplate. Then there's FTW, which features a custom cooler design by EVGA, with even higher clock speeds than SC. The last air-cooled model is the Classified, which our sources tell us will have "astoundingly" high clock speeds. HydroCopper retains the clock profile of Classified, but replaces the cooling assembly with a Swiftech-built copper water-block. EVGA is yet to reveal the design of Classified, and the clock speeds of the factory-overclocked models. There are other variations, such as EVGA's "Signature" design with SuperClocked clock-profile, FTW with 4 GB memory, etc.

EVGA Rolls Out 3 GB GTX 580 HydroCopper 2 Graphics Card

EVGA released a 3 GB (3072 MB) variant of its top of the line single-GPU graphics card, the EVGA GTX 580 FTW HydroCopper 2. It significantly lower clock speeds than the original 1.5 GB variant, of 772 MHz GPU, 1544 MHz CUDA cores, and 1002 MHz (4008 MHz effective) memory, against the 1.5 GB variant's 850/1700/4196 MHz (core/CUDA cores/memory effective). The card comes with a Swiftech-made EVGA HydroCopper 2 full-coverage water block pre-fitted, along with an EVGA GTX 580 backplate. The water block makes the card truly single slot, with the company replacing the double-slot bracket with a single slot one. The 3 GB EVGA GTX 580 FTW HydroCopper 2 is priced at US $739.99, a $40 premium over the 1.5 GB variant.

EVGA Storms Forth GTX 590 Launch with Four Classified Series Products

One of NVIDIA's principal partners, EVGA, released no less than four special edition SKUs for the GeForce GTX 590 graphics card. The SKUs bear EVGA's coveted "Classified" brand extender, which is used on only the most high-end products by the company. First, there's the EVGA GTX 590 Classified Hydro Copper Quad SLI (03G-P3-1599-A2), which is two GeForce GTX 590 graphics cards prepped for water-cooling with HydroCopper water-blocks, packed into one box; next there's the EVGA GeForce GTX 590 Classified Quad SLI (03G-P3-1598-A2), that's two reference design cards in one box; then there are single-card water-cooled (03G-P3-1599-AR) and single-card reference design (03G-P3-1598-AR) packages.

The dual-card (QuadSLI) packages include some EVGA memorabilia, a black t-shirt and a large mousepad. All four SKUs pack cards with the same clock speed profile: 630 MHz core, 1260 MHz CUDA cores, and 864 MHz (3456 MHz effective) memory. The HydroCopper cards feature full-coverage water-blocks. As for pricing, the water-cooled QuadSLI pack is priced at $1,729.99; reference-design QuadSLI pack at $1,429.99; water-cooled single-card at $879.99; and reference-design single-card at $729.99.

BFG Disputes EVGA's Claim to be The ''Undisputed Leader for Water Cooling Solutions''

Earlier this month, EVGA announced its GTX 295 HydroCopper water-block which it plans to sell separately, and not pre-installed with the GeForce GTX 295 CO-OP Edition. In the company's press release, EVGA called itself the " the undisputed leader for water cooling solutions". Apparently this statement hasn't gone down well with its market competitor BFG, which circulated an email across its press-contact list officially challenging the statement, just so the claim doesn't remain "undisputed".

The reasons BFG claims, revolve basically around the longer history the company had with selling factory-fitted water-cooling ready graphics cards, the fact that all its offerings are factory-fitted solutions unlike EVGA's, which relies on user installation, puts the installation risk entirely on the customer, amongst other regular claims of having superior customer support and lifetime warranty.

EVGA HydroCopper GTX 285 Spotted

The guys over at Fudzilla have got hold of a photo showing a watercooled variant of EVGA's GTX 285. The card is said to clock in at 720 MHz on the core, 2.77 GHz effective memory clock and a shader clock of 1,620 MHz. These are the same factory overclocked speeds as the recently released FTW edition of the GTX 285 from EVGA, yet being watercooled the HydroCopper version should perform much cooler. There is currently no word on pricing but the card is expected to ship soon.
