Lian Li Shows Off PC-05, PC-06, and PC-07 Case Prototypes

Lian Li showed off prototypes of its new breed of cases, which can be used either as flat-bed open-air cases, or as towers. These include the mini-ITX PC-05, the micro-ATX PC-06, and the ATX PC-07. Their design is extremely simple. A tub-shaped metal structure holds key PC components along its tray, while a tempered glass panel tops it off. You can either place the case flat-on, making it an open-air case with its clear-acrylic panel removed, or you can place it along its side, to resemble a tower. The three feature a forward-oriented standard ATX PSU bay, a slimline optical drive bay, two or more 3.5-inch/2.5-inch drive bays, and a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 riser, letting you install a graphics card. Lian Li is seeking feedback that will help it perfect the three. Leave them in the comments.

Corsair Shows off Colorful Graphite 380T Mini-ITX Cases

Corsair showed off its colorful Graphite 380T line of portable mini-ITX cases. Featuring a picnic basket-like design, with a handle right on top, the 380T has a 2-compartment design. The top one is dedicated to the motherboard tray, with enormous room for tall tower-type CPU heatsinks, and long graphics cards. It wouldn't surprise us if a Radeon R9 295X fit in just fine. The bottom compartment holds its standard PSU bay, three 3.5-inch drive bays (which each convert to 2.5-inch), and two additional 2.5-inch bays. Ventilation consists of a prominent 140 mm front intake, a 120 mm rear exhaust, and a top exhaust.

Apacer Mashes a DDR3 DIMM with an M.2 SSD

In what could be a boon for mini-ITX PC builders, Apacer created a new line of DDR3 memory modules that come with M.2 slots. Called Apacer Combo-SDIMM, the contraption puts a DDR3 DIMM and M.2 slot onto the same PCB. The DRAM portion is restricted to half the module's height, while the other half takes up the M.2 slot. Sadly, the M.2 slot is wired to through its SATA link layer, and not PCIe, so your SSDs are capped at 6 Gb/s speeds. Points for the engineering, though.

Its cooling features include two 120 mm exhausts on the top, with provision for 240 mm x 120 mm radiators; an 80 mm rear exhaust, and a 120 mm intake on the side panel. Storage area includes one 5.25-inch drive bay, one 3.5-inch internal bay, and three 2.5-inch ones. Front panel connectivity includes USB 3.0 and HDA jacks.

SilverStone Unveils White Milo ML07 Chassis

SilverStone rolled out a sexy matte-white variant of its Milo ML07 compact chassis, pictured below, next to its standard sibling. The case features mostly matte-white surfaces, with a black highlight running along. Under its skin, the ML07 is essentially a Raven RVZ01, a mini-ITX chassis with room for an SFX power supply, a modern 33 cm long graphics card using PCIe risers (a GTX TITAN Black should fit just fine), leaving you still with room for a 240 mm x 120 mm radiator, a slot-in slimline optical drive, a 3.5-inch internal bay, and three 2.5-inch internal bays. Ventilation includes a 120 mm vent over the motherboard tray, and two 120 mm vents at the bottom.

NCASE M1 Crowdfunded Mini-ITX Case Prepares for New Production Run

NCASE today announced it has opened preorders for a second production run of the community-developed small form-factor case, the NCASE M1. Preorders are open for a limited time at www.ncases.com, with production slated for the June-July time frame. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2013, the limited run first edition of the M1 has been well-received by both users and reviewers alike. At just 12.6 liters in volume, it's one of the smallest available mini-ITX cases capable of housing high-end hardware. Thanks to its innovative design, the M1 achieves an unprecedented level of performance capability for its size, able to accommodate GPUs up to 12.5" and 240mm liquid cooling radiators. The NCASE team is a two-man collaboration that began in late 2012 as a project to design and produce a compact, high-quality, performance-oriented small-form factor PC case with input from the community.

Gigabyte Unveils GA-9SISL Micro-Server Board

Gigabyte launched the GA-9SISL, a unique micro-server board in the mini-ITX form-factor. At its center is an Intel Atom C2750 "Avoton" processor. This chip embeds an eight-core "Silvermont" x86-64 CPU clocked at 2.40 GHz, with 2.60 GHz Turbo Boost, a dual-channel memory controller that supports up to 64 GB of memory, 4 MB of L2 cache, and a 6-port SATA AHCI/RAID controller with two 6 Gb/s and four 3 Gb/s ports. Its TDP is rated at just 20W, and so a tiny fan-heatsink is deployed to handle it.

The GA-9SISL from Gigabyte draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors. The Atom C2750 SoC is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting up to 32 GB of DDR3-1600 memory. Its lone expansion slot is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16. Storage connectivity includes four SATA 3 Gb/s and two SATA 6 Gb/s ports. An ASPEED AST2400 chip provides remote management capabilities, and its integrated video, over a D-Sub connector. An Intel N354 network controller offers four 1000 Mbit Ethernet connectors, while a 5th one is wired to the management chip. Gigabyte didn't announce pricing, but given that the SoC itself is priced at US $170 a piece in 1000-unit quantities, home NAS builders may not get excited.

Akasa Announces Euler S Mini-ITX Fanless Case

Much like the Newton X it launched earlier this week, Akasa updated its flagship fanless mini-ITX case, with the new Euler S. The case offers room for a thin mini-ITX motherboard, its body doubles up as a heatsink, and can handle thermal loads from the CPU as high as 35W TDP. The case features a brushed-aluminium front-panel, with diamond-cut edges, and a chunkier aluminium body that offers higher heat dissipation surface area. The Euler S offers a couple of USB 3.0 ports on the front bezel, something that was left wanting on the original. The company didn't reveal pricing or availability details.
