Lian Li Launches the PC-A51 Aluminum Mid-Tower PC Case

Lian-Li Industrial Co. Ltd, today announces a new brushed aluminum mid-tower chassis with a reverse airflow design - PC-A51. Previewed to the worldwide DIY community in its prototype stage, the PC-A51 is a conglomeration of user feedback and Lian Li's time-honed expertise and engineering capabilities.

Reverse Airflow Design
This community collaborated chassis sports a reverse airflow design in which cool air is pulled into the chassis from the rear filtered 120 mm fan. The front 140mm fan above the front-mounted PSU pulls hardware-damaging hot air out of the case. An additional 120 mm or 140 mm fan can be mounted on the floor of the chassis.

Lian Li Previews PC-B16 and PC-A61 Cases Ahead of CeBIT

Lian Li posted pictures of prototypes of two of its upcoming cases, the PC-B16 and PC-A61 (pictured in that order). The two will be launched in March, at the 2014 CeBIT. Both cases are based on a common frame design (the same innards), but the PC-B16 has an added level of noise reduction with its front door. Measuring 230 mm x 490 mm x 530 mm (WxDxH), the two dry-weigh around 6.5 kg. Color options include all-black (including interiors); and white (with bare aluminium interiors).

The PC-B16 and PC-A61 feature a unique new drive cage design, in which individual 3.5-inch drive bays can be detached, so you don't have to lose 3-4 bays just to make room for a dual-slot graphics card of abnormal length. Each bay has retention holes for two 9.5 mm-thick 2.5-inch drives. With the drive bays in place, you get room for graphics cards as long as 280 mm. With the bays out of the way, your cards can be as much as 420 mm long. There's room for CPU coolers as tall as 170 mm. Behind the motherboard tray, there's a crawl-space of 30 mm, letting you comfortably manage even the thickest cable your PSU throws at you (the 24-pin ATX). Cooling system on the PC-B16 and PC-A61 include two 120 mm front intakes, a 120 mm rear exhaust, and two top 140 mm exhausts. Lian Li didn't finalize pricing, or even the design for that matter, and is taking in community feedback. Fire away.

Lian Li DK01 Desk-Type Chassis Prototype Unveiled

Lian Li is feeling experimental again. After taking the PC enthusiast community's opinion on the PC-A51 prototype late last year, the company undertook another such exercise, this time with an emerging form-factor, desk-type chassis, chassis that doubles up as your desk. The DK-01 prototype by Lian Li Measures 800 mm x 795 mm x 600 mm (WxHxD), the business end of the case is its top drawer, which houses your hardware, and metal u-frames that make up its legs. A clear glass or acrylic top gives you a bird's eye view of your creation from above.

The DK01 features room for a gargantuan HPTX motherboard, which means it can also hold EATX, XL-ATX, and standard ATX motherboards. The case has room for up to fourteen (14) 3.5-inch drives, which are arranged in detachable bays. Removing half the bays creates room for large motherboards, and long (up to 410 mm) add-on cards. With the caddies in place, that room shrinks to a still respectable 280 mm. The case supports PSUs as long as 280 mm, and CPU coolers as tall as 180 mm. At various locations, there is room for up to seven 120 mm fans, which you can use to deploy a 240 x 120 mm and 360 x 120 mm radiators.

MSI Planning Gaming Series Cases and Coolers

"Gaming Series" proved to be a successful way for MSI to package its graphics cards and motherboards. The signature deep-red and black color scheme, coupled with the "dragon" logo deck up MSI products in a premium way that only ROG managed for ASUS; and the company is looking to milk it further. According to an Expreview report, MSI is planning to launch Gaming Series-branded cases and cooling solutions. MSI isn't new to cases, but its cases haven't exactly made a mark for themselves, or seen wide availability. The company will, hence, tie up with proven case (and cooling) manufacturers such as NZXT, and share its branding with them.

Enthusiasts in China spotted MSI Gaming Series variants of popular NZXT cases, such as the Phantom 410 (pictured below), and also certain cases from Jonsbo, a local Lian Li-like case maker that specializes in all-aluminium monoliths. Sources also told Expreview that MSI could share the Gaming Series brand with the likes of Thermalright/Cogage, which could launch a variant of its True Spirit TS120 tower-type CPU air cooler.

Lian Li Announces PC-D600 Series Cases

Lian Li announced its PC-D600 series dual-compartment cases, which it first showcased at Computex 2013. Unlike the Corsair Air 540D, which mates a broader compartment holding the motherboard tray, with a narrower one holding the drive cages, PC-D600 holds two compartments of uniform widths, with their partition running right through the middle. The right-side component holds ten 5.25-inch drive cages, from which one is occupied by the included front-panel, and six by 5.25" to 3.5" adapters. There's room on the floor to latch 2.5-inch drives on to, the remaining room in the compartment can be used for various liquid-cooling components, including a 420 x 140 mm radiator.

Lian Li PC-D600 Box-type Case Pictured

It looks like Corsair's Carbide Air 540D will have company very soon, from Lian Li and its PC-D600 split-compartment aluminum case. While the 540D gives you a narrower drive/power compartment than the board/expansion one, the PC-D600 is split right in the middle, and the two compartments have largely the same volume. Another difference is that the PSU bay is located in the board/expansion compartment, with the other compartment being dedicated to drive bays, and room for a large 140 x 420 mm radiator. Like Corsair's joybox, both side panels of the PC-D600 are windowed.

The entire length of the front side of the board compartment is lined with 140 mm fan intakes, it packs a 120 mm rear exhaust, and provision for two 120 mm top exhausts. With its eight expansion slots, the case seats standard ATX motherboards. The drive compartment, on the other hand, is lined with 5.25-inch bays covers, which double up as three 140 mm front intakes. All nine vacant 5.25-inch bays can be populated, or drive cages that convert three 5.25-inch bays to three 3.5-inch bays, can be added. Additional drives can be stacked up in the space between these 5.25-inch bays and the rear, or you could use it up for liquid cooling components, such as reservoir and pumps. The front utility panel gives you four USB 3.0 ports (standard header), and HDA front-panel jacks.

Lian Li PC-V360 Finds Room for a Radiator Right Over The Motherboard

Case designers find room for liquid cooling radiators often by stretching the case out and creating it along the top, bottom, or front of the case. Lian Li found it at the most obvious place -- along the plane of the motherboard, right over its top half. A 240 x 120 mm radiator can be screwed onto a hinged frame, which can be easily moved to access parts of the motherboard right under it. The running idea here is that CPU blocks create a lot of space for this contraption to work.

The V360 is otherwise a typical Lian Li micro-ATX case, with top-mounted PSU bay, all-aluminum construction, a single 5.25-inch drive bay, five 3.5-inch bays, and three 2.5-inch ones, which create enough room for long graphics cards such as AMD Radeon HD 5970, to fit in. Ventilation includes a 120 mm front intake, a 120 mm rear exhaust, an 80 mm top exhaust, a 120 mm bottom intake (at the expense of one expansion slot), and vents on the side panel for the radiator assembly to work.
