Tour de France Bike Designs Developed with NVIDIA RTX GPU Technologies

NVIDIA RTX is spinning new cycles for designs. Trek Bicycle is using GPUs to bring design concepts to life. The Wisconsin-based company, one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the world, aims to create bikes with the highest-quality craftsmanship. With its new partner Lidl, an international retailer chain, Trek Bicycle also owns a cycling team, now called Lidl-Trek. The team is competing in the annual Tour de France stage race on Trek Bicycle's flagship lineup, which includes the Emonda, Madone and Speed Concept. Many of the team's accessories and equipment, such as the wheels and road race helmets, were also designed at Trek.

Bicycle design involves complex physics—and a key challenge is balancing aerodynamic efficiency with comfort and ride quality. To address this, the team at Trek is using NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs to run high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, setting new benchmarks for aerodynamics in a bicycle that's also comfortable to ride and handles smoothly. The designers and engineers are further enhancing their workflows using NVIDIA RTX technology in Dell Precision workstations, including the NVIDIA RTX A5500 GPU, as well as a Dell Precision 7920 running dual RTX A6000 GPUs.

NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation Workstation GPU Mentioned in Official Driver Documents

NVIDIA's rumored RTX 5000 Ada Generation GPU has been outed once again, according to VideoCardz - the cited source being a keen-eyed member posting information dumps on a laptop discussion forum. Team Green has released new driver documentation that makes mention of hardware ID "26B2" under an entry for a now supported device: "NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation." Forum admin StefanG3D posted the small discovery on their favored forum in the small hours of Sunday morning (April 23).

As reported last month, the NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada is destined to sit between existing sibling workstation GPUs - the AD102-based RTX 6000 and AD104-based RTX 4000 SFF. Hardware tipster kopite7kimi has learned enough to theorize that the NVIDIA RTX 5000 Ada Generation workstation graphics card will feature 15,360 CUDA cores and 32 GB of GDDR6 memory. The AD102 GPU is expected to sit at the heart of this unannounced card.

NVIDIA Could be Reducing RTX 4070 GPU Production, Palit Card Price Cut Reported in UK

NVIDIA's fresh faced GeForce RTX 4070 graphic card range has not been flying off shelves around the world, and Team Green could be pivoting their approach somewhat after receiving lower than expected sales figures via company reports. Their component suppliers have already mentioned that the entire GeForce RTX 40 family is on a comfortably steady production schedule - with no instructions received from HQ to up the ante. In the latest development this week, individuals with insider knowledge of factory schedules in China have claimed that NVIDIA has informed board partners (AICs) that output for the GeForce RTX 4070 line is getting paused for a month. The temporary cutoff in factory output will allow, they hope, for the currently sitting stock to get cleared out. A substantial surplus of GeForce RTX 4070 cards could disrupt distribution networks and overstock warehouses.

Industry watchdogs have theorized that NVIDIA's board partners are having a difficult time offloading their premium tier RTX 4070 custom cards onto paying customers. The Founders Edition and closer-to-reference models have sold quite respectable numbers according to early analyses, but more expensive options are considered to be too expensive by the customer base. There is apparent crossover in pricing with the fancier GeForce RTX 4070 Ti range, and a savvy buyer will tend toward superior silicon rather than a shiny cooling solution combined with a factory-issued overclock. A computer hardware retailer in the UK, Novatech, has chosen to cut the price of a Palit RTX 4070 Dual model by £40/$50, as reported yesterday. The asking price has since returned closer to RRP - at the time of writing it stands at £579.98.

NVIDIA's Tiny RTX 4000 Ada Lovelace Graphics Cards is now Available

NVIDIA has begun selling its compact RTX 4000 Ada Lovelace graphics card, offering GeForce RTX 3070-like performance at a mere 70 W power consumption, allowing it to fit in almost all desktop PCs. The low-profile, dual-slot board is priced higher than the RTX 4080 as it targets professional users, but it can still be used in a regular gaming computer. PNY's RTX 4000 Ada generation graphics card is the first to reach consumer shelves, currently available for $1,444 at ShopBLT, a retailer known for obtaining hardware before its competitors. The card comes with four Mini-DisplayPort connectors, so an additional mDP-DP or mDP-HDMI adapter must be factored into the cost.

The NVIDIA RTX 4000 SFF Ada generation board features an AD104 GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, 20 GB of GDDR6 ECC memory, and a 160-bit interface. With a fixed boost frequency floating around 1560 MHz to reduce overall board power consumption, the GPU is rated for just 70 Watts of power. To emphasize the efficiency, this card requires no external PCIe power connector, as all the juice is fed through the PCIe slot. The GA104 graphics processor in this configuration delivers a peak FP32 performance of 19.2 TFLOPS, comparable to the GeForce RTX 3070. The 20 GB of memory makes the card more valuable for professionals and AI researchers needing compact solutions. Although the card's performance is overshadowed by the recently launched GeForce RTX 4070, the RTX 4000 SFF Ada's professional drivers, support for professional software ISVs, and additional features make it a strong contender in the semi-professional market. Availability and pricing are expected to improve in the coming weeks as the card becomes more widely accessible.

VLC Media Player Gets NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution Support

VLC Media Player, or VideoLAN Client, the popular open-source video/audio playback and streaming application, is receiving support for NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution, the company announced today. This would allow VLC to take advantage of the feature to vastly improve upscaled video quality. Many of the same techniques used in DLSS, are used for video upscaling, and attempted-reconstruction of detail. Some of these techniques have been around in the MadVR community as AI DNN-accelerated upscaler algorithms. The new feature should come as a boon for those with vast locally stored libraries of 1080p videos and a larger 4K Ultra HD display to view them on. VideoLAN is expected to release an update to VLC later today (April 12) with RTX Video Super Resolution support.

More Games Get NVIDIA DLSS Support This Week

Each week we're bringing you the latest news on games launching with NVIDIA DLSS and advanced ray tracing. Last week, Sackboy: A Big Adventure multiplied performance with DLSS 3; this week we're celebrating the launch of the technology preview of Cyberpunk 2077's Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode. Additionally, High On Life and Like a Dragon: Ishin! have recently added DLSS 2 support, and there are even more games on the horizon with support for RTX technologies, so keep reading for all the details.

In 2018, we began a gaming revolution with the launch of 1st generation GeForce RTX graphics cards. Since the release of the very first games decades ago, lighting had been faked, and various hacks employed to approximate shadows, reflections, and other real-world properties. GeForce RTX made real-time ray tracing a reality, enabling developers to realistically render reflections and lighting, making their games more immersive and enjoyable. And with DLSS 1.0, we invented a game-changing way for players to accelerate frame rates. Back in 2018 there were 4 RTX games, 37% of GeForce RTX gamers enabled ray tracing, and 26% activated DLSS 1.0.

NVIDIA Previews Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode in Cyberpunk 2077, Update Arriving April 11

CD PROJEKT RED's Cyberpunk 2077 is already one of the most technologically advanced games available, using several ray tracing techniques to render its neon-illuminated environments and vast Night City visuals at incredible levels of detail. On April 11th, a new Cyberpunk 2077 update will hit the streets, featuring the technology preview of the Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, which enhances the game's already-amazing visuals with full ray tracing, otherwise known as path tracing.

Full ray tracing accurately simulates light throughout an entire scene. It is used by visual effects artists to create film and TV graphics that are indistinguishable from reality, but until the arrival of GeForce RTX GPUs with RT Cores, and the AI-powered acceleration of NVIDIA DLSS, real-time video game full ray tracing was impossible because it's extremely GPU intensive.
