NVIDIA Unveils Grace CPU Superchip with 144 Cores and 1 TB/s Bandwidth

NVIDIA has today announced its Grace CPU Superchip, a monstrous design focused on heavy HPC and AI processing workloads. Previously, team green has teased an in-house developed CPU that is supposed to go into servers and create an entirely new segment for the company. Today, we got a more detailed look at the plan with the Grace CPU Superchip. The Superchip package represents a package of two Grace processors, each containing 72 cores. These cores are based on Arm v9 in structure set architecture iteration and two CPUs total for 144 cores in the Superchip module. These cores are surrounded by a now unknown amount of LPDDR5x with ECC memory, running at 1 TB/s total bandwidth.

NVIDIA Grace CPU Superchip uses the NVLink-C2C cache coherent interconnect, which delivers 900 GB/s bandwidth, seven times more than the PCIe 5.0 protocol. The company targets two-fold performance per Watt improvement over today's CPUs and wants to bring efficiency and performance together. We have some preliminary benchmark information provided by NVIDIA. In the SPECrate2017_int_base integer benchmark, the Grace CPU Superchip scores over 740 points, which is just the simulation for now. This means that the performance target is not finalized yet, teasing a higher number in the future. The company expects to ship the Grace CPU Superchip in the first half of 2023, with an already supported ecosystem of software, including NVIDIA RTX, HPC, NVIDIA AI, and NVIDIA Omniverse software stacks and platforms.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 12 GB May Offer 8,960 CUDA Cores

The RTX 3080 12 GB is still a rumored card, despite the increasing amounts of evidence towards its eventual release. The card's refreshed VRAM amount in particular seems to be an important part of NVIDIA's competitiveness plan, not only against AMD's RX 6000-series, which sport a psychological (and sometimes practical) advantage with their 16 GB VRAM capacities; but against Intel and its upcoming ARC Alchemist launch, which are expected to also offer 16 GB of VRAM at competitive shading performance levels.

But it seems that NVIDIA's refresh of the RTX 3080 graphics card won't be limited to a VRAM and bus width increase - CUDA core counts are now reported to have also increased by 2.9%, up to 8,960 from the RTX 3080 10 GB's 8,704 CUDA cores. The card is naturally still expected to make use of the GA-102 chip. An expected increased memory bus width of 384-bits will also bring about an increase in memory bandwidth, at 912 GB/s, the same as the RTX 3080 Ti (it stands at 760 GB/s for the RTX 3080).

NVIDIA RTX 2060 12 GB Supply to Improve Entering 2022

NVIDIA's latest attempt to mitigate the continued graphics card supply issues with the relaunch of the RTX 2060 in a 12 GB flavor seems to be mostly vapor - for a little while longer, at least. That the new, 12 GB cards' launch wasn't even met with an official NVIDIA MSRP was enough to get some eyebrows raised by itself; and the almost complete lack of availability of any of these partner-only cards after the launch proper only adds insult to injury.

According to PC Gamer, citing an NVIDIA spokesperson, actual card production ramp will happen "(...) starting the end of December and early January". Even when that happens, would-be buyers of RTX 2060 12 GB cards will still have to contend with the absolute lack of pricing structure in the current market. the absence of an MSRP essentially gives the entire NVIDIA supply chain a way to operate and earn profits in the dark, setting their own pricing solely according to mechanisms of supply and demand. NVIDIA itself, AIB partners, distributors and retailers - all of them can seemingly add whatever margin they feel the market demand will sustain. It doesn't seem that the third life of NVIDIA's RTX 2060 12 GB will do much to improve the actual situation for consumers - but retailers can now sell three-year-old technology at whatever pricing the market determines.

ZOTAC Introduces the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti AMP White Edition LHR

ZOTAC today added to its NVIDIA RTX 3000-series portfolio with a white version of the RTX 3060 Ti. The ZOTAC RTX 3060 Ti AMP White Edition LHR (Lite Hash Rate) essentially reuses the cooling solution found on its darker cousin, the 3060 Ti Twin Edge, which we have reviewed here. The IceStorm 2.0 cooling solution maintains the 11-blade, dual-fan, dual-slot design, but paints the shroud in white for users that want that particular color coordination for their system.

ZOTAC have decided to slightly bump operating frequencies of the GA-104 chip powering the RTX 3060 Ti AMP White (1,775 MHz compared to the Twin Edge's 1,750 MHz). The remainder of the specs are as expected: 4,840 Ampere CUDA cores, 8 GB of 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory over a 256-bit bus, and a pair of 2x 8-pin connectors to power all the electronics up. External card dimensions stand at 231.9 mm length, 141.3 mm width, and 41.5 mm thickness. I/O is assured by the usual 3x DisplayPort 1.4a and 1x HDMI 2.1 connectors. The card is now springing up in retail stores - and considering current pricing for the Twin Edge version, listed at $659, you should expect pricing to be in the same ballpark.

NVIDIA RTX 30 SUPER Series Specifications Rumored

The NVIDIA RTX 30 SUPER series is expected to be announced by the company early next year in January at CES 2022. We have now received a list of rumored specifications for the upcoming family from kopite7kimi who correctly revealed the RTX 30 series. The list includes four desktop cards with the RTX 3060 SUPER, 3070 SUPER, 3080 SUPER, and 3090 SUPER. The RTX 3060 SUPER is listed as featuring 5632 CUDA cores paired with 12 GB of GDDR6 memory which is a considerable increase from the 4864 CUDA cores and 8 GB of memory found on the RTX 3060 Ti.

The RTX 3070 SUPER appears to feature less of an upgrade with the core count remaining at 5888 and the memory capacity at 8 GB however this will be upgraded from GDDR6 to GDDR6X. The RTX 3080 SUPER will receive 8960 CUDA and 12 GB of GDDR6X memory compared to the 8704 cores and 10 GB memory on the RTX 3080. The new flagship consumer card will be the RTX 3090 SUPER with an extra 256 CUDA cores for a total of 10752 and 24 GB of GDDR6X memory. These specifications are only rumors with the leaker stating that they doubt some of them so we will have to wait for further leaks until we can know with certainty.

HP Lists NVIDIA RTX 3080 SUPER in Upcoming Envy 34 PC

HP recently listed the NVIDIA RTX 3080 SUPER as one of the available options for their upcoming Envy 34 AIO-in-One PC before updating their site to remove the reference. NVIDIA is rumored to refresh its desktop and mobile GPU lineup early next year with the launch of RTX 30 SUPER most likely at CES 2022 in January. The current HP Envy 34 features an RTX 2080 Max-Q mobile card so any potential RTX 3080 SUPER option would also need to be a mobile variant considering the limited cooling capabilities of the AIO. The Envy 34 featured will go on sale next month for 1999 USD ruling out the possibility of it shipping with the RTX 3080 SUPER. While it is entirely possible that this was a simple mistake from HP it could be an indication that the PC will be upgraded to the SUPER model in the near future.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti, 3060 LHR Tested in Cryptomining Workloads

Expreview have tested one of the latest RTX 3060 graphics cards of the LHR (Lite Hash Rate) nature, so as to discern exactly how cryptomining limited these LHR cards are in practice - and whether or not there are performance differences for non-mining related workloads such as gaming. The results are satisfying: the new RTX 3060 Lite Hash Rate puts out around 21 MH/s at 119 W - and it does so from the beginning of the workload, which didn't happen prior, when NVIDIA's solution was a poorly implemented driver check instead of a new device ID (it started at 40 MH/s and then decreased until it hit the LHR ceiling). The RTX 3060 also didn't show any performance difference compared to previous, non-LHR cards in gaming benchmarks, which might put some prospective buyers at ease.

Also leaked was the said RTX 3080 Ti mining score. Since this card is only coming out now, a way to differentiate it from existing stock is unneeded. But even if the RTX 3080 Ti doesn't carry the LHR suffix as does the RTX 3060 and eventually the 3070 and 3080 upon their re-release to the wild, it does pack in the same mining performance limiter. And the card was tested to deliver some 58 MH/s at a 199 W board power. One should be cautious about expecting swift prices back on the market, as miners shift their focus towards the RTX cards already in the second-hand market or the new CMP cards; one can only be hopeful that the actual gaming market is already well-furnished with cards enough that scalpers aren't able to contend with the (ideal?) overflow of stock on LHR cards.

NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti Tested in Ashes of the Singularity

The upcoming NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti has already been tested in the old, tried and true Ashes of the Singularity benchmark - the first game to ever support DirectX 12. Considering the proximity of this Ashes of the SIngularity bench run with the projected announcement date for the RTX 3080 Ti itself, on June 4th, it may mean that this is a reviewers' sample that's been tested.

NVIDIA Announces Financial Results for First Quarter Fiscal 2022

GAAP earnings per diluted share for the quarter were a record $3.03, up 106 percent from a year ago and up 31 percent from the previous quarter. Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share were $3.66, up 103 percent from a year earlier and up 18 percent from the previous quarter.

"We had a fantastic quarter, with strong demand for our products driving record revenue," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. Alphacool Presents Eiswolf 2 GPU-AIO for NVIDIA Ampere and AMD RDNA 2 GPUs

Alphacool today presents the Eiswolf 2 AIO solution (Reference design with backplate) for AMD Radeon RX 6800/6800XT/6900 and NVIDIA RTX 3080/3090 graphics cards. As with all of our AIO models, we only use copper radiators, however, for the first time, the Alphacool 360 mm NexXxoS ST30 all-copper radiator will be used in one of our GPU "all-in-one" solutions. For the fans, we now install the new Alphacool Aurora Rise 120 mm fan. The fan impresses with a max. statistical pressure of 3.17 mm/H2O and offers a max. air flow of 119.8m3/h, at a speed range of 0-2500rpm which can be controlled via PWM.

The decision to use the larger radiator in conjunction with our new fans provides a significant increase in cooling performance. The AIO is completed with the Eisblock Aurora water cooler, which actively cools all relevant components such as graphics memory and voltage converters in addition to the GPU chip. All components used (radiator, fan, cooler, DC-LT 2 pump) including connectors and hoses are part of the Alphacool custom cooling range and are therefore available separately. This means that we're not just offering a simple AIO solution here, but a real custom water cooling system (pre-assembled & pre-filled). Only the pump housing for the DC-LT 2 pump is a custom design and not available separately. Today we present only the Reference designs. In the near future, more solutions for graphics cards in custom design from various manufacturers will be available.
