Acer Predator BiFrost RX 9070 OC 16 GB SKU Hits Retail Two+ Months After Official Unveiling

Acer was late with its contribution of custom RDNA 4 graphics card; introductory press material was issued after the fact, and potential buyers have waited a while for retail stock to reach end destinations. The Taiwanese manufacturer's opening salvo consisted of premium "Predator BiFrost" and sub-flagship "Nitro" overclocked Radeon RX 9070 XT models, but non-XT options did not launch at the same time. This morning, VideoCardz noted the availability of Predator BiFrost RX 9070 OC 16 GB cards in Japan. The company's regional office has opened its direct-to-customer order book; to the tune of 128,800 yen (including sales tax) per unit—converting to roughly ~$902 (USD).

Unlike XT equivalents, Acer's Predator BiFrost OC and Nitro OC RX 9070 models feature two 8-pin power connectors (instead of three units). Currently, the Geizhals/Skinflint price aggregator denotes stock—of both SKUs—being present at e-tailers in Germany and Austria. According to comparisons, the best Predator BiFrost RX 9070 OC deal comes in at €709 (inc. VAT), at GALAXUS. PLAYOX and Office-Partner.de offer the lowest Nitro RX 9070 OC price tags: €669 (inc. VAT), plus €4.99 processing fees. Acer has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind subsequent sluggish launches of its RDNA 4 portfolio. Curiously enough, Yeston—best known for dealing in eccentric card designs—foresaw a post-April stabilization of Radeon RX 9070 series shipments.

Acer Nitro AI Laptops Spotted with GeForce RTX 5050 Mobile GPU Specs

NVIDIA's oft-leaked GeForce RTX 5050 Mobile 8 GB GPU did not make a debut appearance at last week's Computex trade show. Given the very recent launch of GeForce RTX 5060 8 GB laptops, truly cost-conscious buyers will need to wait patiently for the next wave of even cheaper portable "Blackwell" hardware. Mid-way through the month, a British e-tailer inadvertently published pre-launch prices. Lenovo's least expensive option—utilizing a GeForce RTX 5050 Mobile card—sported a (likely placeholder) tag of £1149.97 (inc. VAT). So far, a lot of pre-release information has been sourced from official websites or webstores.

Yesterday, VideoCardz shared another NDA-buster—courtesy of Acer's "Predator and Nitro Gaming Laptop GPU Power Specifications page." At the time of writing, offending items are no longer present within this list. Prior to removal, three configurable Nitro AI laptop models (16, 16S, and 18) were visible with GeForce RTX 5050 specifications (alongside RTX 5060, 5070 and 5070 Ti options). Only clock speed and TGP data points were logged by the notorious investigator (see below). Currently, TechPowerUp's GPU database entry contains speculative information—a "GB207" GPU identifier was unearthed a while ago, but some insiders reckon that Team Green's GeForce RTX 5050 Mobile design will be based on "GB206" silicon. Additionally, debates continue to rage over the selection of GDDR7 or GDDR6 VRAM. So far, all launched tiers of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50-series have emerged with GDDR7 memory modules.

Acer's Portable and Gaming Monitor Lineup at Computex 2025

At Computex 2025, Acer showcased its monitor lineup that spans from dual-screen portable displays to ultra-fast 500 Hz gaming monitors, and we couldn't miss the opportunity to take a quick look at these products. We start with the Nitro PG271K, a 27-inch "portable" gaming monitor (as much as a 27-inch monitor can be portable) with an IPS panel with dual-resolution modes. You can make it run at 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution with 72 Hz refresh rate, or you can change it to FHD (1920 x 1080) with 144 Hz refresh rate with 0.5 ms response time for some gaming sessions. It has a kickstand and VESA mount holes for different mounting options and include USB-C and HDMI connections.

In the same portable section we founded Acer PD243YE. This is a dual-screen portable monitor with two 23.5-inch screens stacked on top of each other. Both screens are 1080p IPS panels. The top screen tilts from 0 to 315 degrees on hinges, which gives you a lot of setup flexibility. Connects via USB-C or HDMI.

Both models are calibrated with True 10Bit color and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology for vivid and tear-free graphics.

Acer also expanded its line of multi-functional Nitro Google TV smart monitors with the Acer Nitro GA321QK P and the curved Acer Nitro GA341CUR W0. Acer Radeon RX 9070 XT OC SKU Prices Revealed in UK, Pre-orders Start at £750

Just over two weeks ago, Acer unveiled its brand-new Predator BiFrost and Nitro Radeon RX 9070 Series graphics cards. Despite being a late contributor to AMD's opening salvo of RDNA 4, the Taiwanese manufacturer made a big impression with its reveal of four premium specced models. In particular, Acer's Predator BiFrost Radeon RX 9070 OC 16 GB and Nitro Radeon RX 9070 XT OC 16 GB SKUs will be joining an elite group of custom options that boast 3100 MHz boost clocks. Mid-March press material did not provide any insight into launch pricing—weeks later, Overclockers UK has opened up pre-orders for the four Predator BiFrost and Nitro RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 cards. Just prior to RDNA 4 launch time, Overclockers UK (OcUK) received plenty of press attention—in particular, their building of a sizable cube out of an impressive quantity of Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT retail stock.

The British retailer seemed confident with its pre-kickoff accumulation of various AIB models, but demand quickly outstripped supply on day one. Unfortunately, OcUK has implemented dreaded price hikes across its Radeon RX 9070 Series product listings. Looking at Acer's main competition in the premium custom Radeon RX 9070 XT tier, OcUK has jacked up prices by £20 to £30 (approx.). ASRock's Radeon RX 9070 XT Taichi OC model—one of the elite 3.1 GHz boosters—launched at £700 (including VAT, shipping fee is extra), but was adjusted up to £728.99 (~$943 USD) at some point last month. The British store's pre-order price for the "cheaper" Nitro Radeon RX 9070 XT OC SKU is £749.99 (inc. VAT), while the flagship Predator BiFrost costs £779.99 (inc. VAT) for reservation. GIGABYTE's (almost) £800 AORUS RX 9070 XT ELITE model is the only other 3.1 GHz boost-capable option sitting above the £750 mark. Looking at "on paper" information (e.g. aluminium backplates, state-of-the-art cooling, etc.)—Acer's two headliners are impressive offerings, but rival cards already exist with similar credentials at "lower prices." Historically, TechPowerUp's resident GPU reviewer—W1zzard—has not received any graphics card samples from the manufacturer. Perhaps this drought will end in the near future...

Acer Launches Affordable 4K 150 Hz Gaming Monitor

When it comes to affordable gaming monitors, Acer tends to be one of the main contenders among the well known brands out there and its latest addition is a 4K model with 150 Hz refresh rate. The Acer Nitro XV282K V3 is an updated version of a model that's been available for a few years now and although Acer didn't do any major changes to the overall specs, apart from that extra 6 Hz on the refresh rate, the company has dropped the MSRP by over half, making the Nitro XV282K V3 something of a bargain.

Feature wise we're looking at a 28-inch IPS panel with HDR 400 support and a 1 ms GTG response time. The panel is a typical 8-bit panel with FRC support for 10-bit dithering with a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a DCI-P3 colour gamut of 90 percent. It also has AMD FreeSync Premium support with a VRR range of 48 to 150 Hz. The port selection consists of one DP 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 ports and should also feature some kind of USB inputs and outputs, but Acer didn't bother adding those to its website. That said, the older model had both a USB Type-C and Type-B input, as well as four USB-A outputs, so hopefully this was carried over to the updated model. There's also a height adjustable stand with tilt and pivot support. With a US$429.99 MSRP, it's likely that this could become one of the most affordable 4K gaming monitors out there.

Sapphire Releases Cheaper Radeon RX 7900 XT Nitro Card, Not Equipped with Vapor Chamber

Sapphire China has introduced a slightly cheaper alternative to its high-end Nitro Vapor-X card, based on AMD's Radeon RX 7900 XT GPU. The new Nitro OC L custom design (also translated as "XT 20G Ultra Platinum L") grants a saving of about $70 when stacked against the XT Nitro+ Vapor-X model. Local prices according to JD.com's listings are 6299 RMB (roughly $895) and 6799 RMB (around $966) respectively. The two cards appear to be very similar in appearance at first glance, but Sapphire has chosen to cut back on advanced cooling features and lighting.

The "Nitro OC L" comes with a more traditional copper base, which presumably helps reduce the unit's material cost, but this choice also lessens its cooling prowess - Sapphire's engineering team has lowered the card's clock speed boost down to 2450 MHz (from the Vapor-X's 2560 MHz), so performance is on-par with their RX 7900 XT PULSE model. The Nitro OC L features a single strip of RGB on the top of its shroud - its more expensive sibling sports a secondary lighting region on its underside (emitting in the direction of the motherboard). The Radeon RX 7900 XT Nitro OC L card has not been announced for launches in western markets yet, but we hope to hear more from Sapphire's international team very soon.

Sapphire Teases its Radeon RX 7900-series Nitro Card

It appears that we're in the Radeon RX 7900-series teaser season, as yet another upcoming card has been teased on social media, this time by Sapphire. The company didn't share any details about the card, beyond the fact that's its an RX 7900 based card of some kind. The company shared a short video of the fans spinning on the card, from an angle that gives away as few details as possible. Beyond being able to tell that the card has triple-fan cooling solution and a silver coloured shroud, the only thing visible appears to be two RGB LED strips that runs along the length of the card.

First AMD Radeon RX 6x50XT Card Pricing Posted by Italian Retailer

Based on a pair of screenshots posted on Twitter by leaker @momomo_us, it appears that AMD's refreshed graphics cards aren't that far away, as Italian retailer Breakpoint has listed several Radeon RX 6x50XT cards on its website, alongside pricing. The cards in question are all from Sapphire and consist of Toxic, Nitro+ and Pulse cards. The listings have already been removed, but it might not matter too much, as the pricing isn't exactly affordable. For example, the Toxic RX 6950 XT LE Gaming OC was listed for €3,133.83, although that does include an AIO cooler.

The Nitro+ RX 6950XT model was listed at over €3,000, whereas the Nitro+ RX 6750XT was listed at over €1,400, or around €200 more than an RX 6800. The Nitro+ version of the RX 6650XT was listed north of €850, but even the two Pulse versions of the RX 6750XT and RX 6650XT are in the same crazy ballpark. Even the upcoming entry level RX 6400 model is listed at over €360 and you'd have to be mad to pay that kind of money for such a basic card. These prices are simply pure nonsense and should not be taken as an indicator of what these upcoming cards will cost. AMD is said to be launching the refreshed cards on the 10th of May, but the company might make an announcement later this month, where it will reveal the specs.

"Our work with AWS exemplifies our commitment to giving end users innovation and performance for their cloud environments and workloads."

Acer Offers Increased Laptop GPU Performance Using Firmware Update

Total Graphics Power, or TGP, is a way of constraining the power of a GPU to a certain level, so it can adjust to the use case. In laptops and other mobile systems, TGP can be dynamically adjusted using technologies such as NVIDIA Dynamic Boost and AMD Smart Shift, which bring unused CPU power envelope to the GPU and allowing it to boost to much higher frequencies. By boosting to higher frequencies, the total power output of GPU increased, and the cooling system of a laptop can only handle a limited amount of heat. That is why these technologies from AMD and NVIDIA allow the CPU to reduce its heat output and offer the GPU more room for boosting and power output.

Acer has today announced that the company will offer a simple firmware update for their Nitro 5, Helios 300, Triton 300, and Triton 300 SE gaming laptops, which is going to boost the TGP of NVIDIA graphics card present in these systems anywhere from 5-30 Watts. There is a nicely compiled list available on the ComputerBase website that highlights the exact power increase for a specific model. If you happen to own one of these models, you can download the latest firmware update from Acer's website here.
