MSI Insider Weekly tested an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card as part of a Live Benchmarking event, where it is shown to be in fact slower than the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. This begins to explain why NVIDIA or its board partners weren't too keen on sampling the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB for reviews. The performance delta between the 16 GB and 8 GB models is within 0.5%, but the 16 GB model is slightly behind the 8 GB in Cyberpunk 2077, F1 23, and Rainbow 6: Siege, all in Ultra (or equivalent settings). The performance is neck-and-neck in Fortnite and Hogwarts Legacy. The only test where the 16 GB variant is ahead is with CS:GO.

Besides the memory size, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB has identical specs—core configuration, clock-speeds, power limits, to its 8 GB sibling. One possible explanation for the 16 GB performing slightly worse could be that the higher density 16 GB memory is imposing a slightly higher latency, or having a negligibly higher power draw, but these are all just theory-crafting on our part. The RTX 4060 Ti still has 225 W at its disposal. NVIDIA has proved its point that 16 GB makes no difference to the performance of the RTX 4060 Ti. It's now up to the board partners to sell these cards at a whopping 25% higher price than the 8 GB model. Ideally, NVIDIA could have spruced up the 16 GB variant a little, by enabling all 18 TPCs on the AD106 (the RTX 4060 Ti enables 17); and if the AD106 supports GDDR6X, they should have dialed up memory speed to 21 Gbps.The MSI Insider video follows.

NVIDIA today launched the 16 GB version of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti "Ada" graphics card to no fanfare. Essentially a memory variant of the RTX 4060 Ti with no other changes in the specs sheet, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB commands a $100 premium (25%) over the regular RTX 4060 Ti for double the memory size, albeit at the same 128-bit memory bus width, and the same 18 Gbps memory speed. The idea behind the card is that the larger memory should help in scenarios where the 8 GB of memory is found to limit performance. It would've been fun to test this theory if only we had cards to review—we didn't.NVIDIA's own presentation lists just two games that show gains, and that's probably the best-case.

If you've seen our coverage of the original RTX 4060 Ti or RTX 4060, you'll notice that we've tested 8 to 10 of each on launch day, covering almost every AIC partner. With the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, we were ready to repeat this feat, and cleared our calendars for the launch, except nothing came through. We talked to all the partners, and friends in the industry. We learned that neither NVIDIA nor the partners are sampling the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB. We did try to arrange samples through back-channels, which turned out to be a bust, too, nobody wanted to touch these cards. To prevent those reviewers who could somehow score cards in partnership with retailers, NVIDIA ensured there was no driver available until earlier today. Without drivers, there's no way for anyone to test the card, and it shows—we've scoured the web, and nobody has a review. There should be cards available in retail already, but only listings with "out of stock", "coming soon" have appeared so far. We do intend to buy one off the shelf and test it for you with the first available driver. As of this writing, we cannot find any of these cards in the online retail.Update 15:16 UTC: We've reached out to several shops here in Germany, they all confirmed that "the embargo expired today at 3 pm", but also mentioned that "the on-shelf availability date is unknown".

NVIDIA today released the GeForce 536.67 Game Ready drivers. The drivers introduce support for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card that's being launched today. ASUS today introduced the ProArt GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card series. These cards offer a cooling solution that's essentially the same as the ROG Strix RTX 4060 Ti, but with a more sober product design suitable for design studios. The 16 GB of memory should benefit certain kinds of creator applications with large data sets. Memory size aside, this is essentially the same RTX 4060 Ti, and while for gaming it's a 1080p thru 1440p class product, for creator applications, the GPU should easily suit higher resolutions such as 4K Ultra HD. You can also benefit from the GeForce Studio drivers that offer certification for several key content creation application suites.

There are three sub-variants of the ProArt RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB based on the clock-speeds on offer. The regular one sticks to NVIDIA-reference clock speeds of 2535 MHz with the default BIOS, and 2565 MHz with the OC BIOS. The ProArt RTX 4060 Ti Advanced Edition steps this up to 2580 MHz in the OC BIOS. The top ProArt RTX 4060 Ti OC Edition significantly dials up the clock speeds to 2685 MHz, which is close to that of the ROG Strix O8G. All three cards come with a complimentary 3-month Adobe Creative Cloud subscription.

USA retailer, Newegg, is currently running a sale on a couple of custom NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB graphics cards. The cheapest option is an MSI VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC model, available for an an-all-time low price of $334 (representing a nice 16% discount)—thanks to a promo code ("ZIPTECH") shaving off a further $45.60 from the sale price of $379.99. NVIDIA set an MSRP of $399.99 upon the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti's launch back in late May, generating plenty of ambivalence within the PC hardware enthusiast community. That pattern will likely repeat with next week's premiere of RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB variants—its recommended retail price is set at $499, with tricked out custom cards predicted to go beyond $550.

Potential buyers of the bog standard 8 GB GPU in the States will be somewhat happy to discover that Newegg is not limiting the sale and discounts to a single model. MSI's slightly fancier (triple fan design) VENTUS 3X 8G OC card is going for $351.99, and the GIGABYTE RTX 4060 Ti EAGLE plus ASUS RTX 4060 Ti DUAL OC are available at the same price. These deals look quite good when placed next to discounted GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB custom cards—these are getting blown out for $329 - 339.

NVIDIA is reported to be taking a hands off approach prior to the launch of its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB GPU next week—rumored to take place on July 18. Murmurs from last week posited that add-in card (AIC) partners were not all that confident in the variant's prospects, with very little promotional activity lined up. NVIDIA itself is not releasing a Founders Edition GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB model, so it will be relying on board partners to get custom design units sent out to press outlets/reviewers. According to Hardware Unboxed, as posted on Twitter earlier today, no hardware will be distributed to the media: "Now there's no official review program for this model, there will be no FE version and it seems that NVIDIA and their partners really don't want to know about it. Every NVIDIA partner I've spoken to so far has said they won't be providing review samples, and they're not even sure when their model will be available."

Their announcement continued: "So I don't know when you'll be able to view our review, but I will be buying one as soon as I can. I expect coverage will be pretty thin and that's probably the plan, the release strategy here is similar to that of the RTX 3080 12 GB." TPU can confirm that test samples have not been sent out by NVIDIA's board partners, so a retail unit will be purchased (out of pocket) for reviewing purposes. Previous reports have theorized that not many custom models will be available at launch, with the series MSRP of $499 not doing it many favors in terms of buyer interest. MSI has prepared a new white GAMING X design for the 16 GB variant, so it is good to see at least one example of an AIB putting the effort in...but it would be nice to get a press sample.

NVIDIA add-in card (AIC) partners are reported to be taking a nonchalant approach to producing new custom designs for NVIDIA's upcoming launch (July 18) of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card. The RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB variant arrived back in late May to yet another lukewarm reception for the Ada Lovelace generation—Team Green's board partners are likely anticipating that the 16 GB model's MSRP of $499 is not going to generate enough interest or buzz within the PC gaming hardware community.

MSI could be going against the grain with the introduction of a new custom design for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB GPU—in the form of its GAMING X Slim White model—as discovered by hongxing2020. This appears to be a white alternative to the company's GAMING TRIO X cooling solution—with a (slightly) slender redesign and RGB lighting strips placed in different positions, although the pale aesthetic does not extend to the PCB and heatsink fins. MSI's fancy GAMING X liveries usually add some extra expense to base prices (+$60 for the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB Gaming X Trio), so this new white model could be sold for more than $559.

It looks like the only reason the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB even exists, is to prove to naysayers that think 8 GB is too little an amount of memory for the original RTX 4060 Ti. Andreas Schilling of HardwareLuxx.de in a tweet stated that NVIDIA add-in card (AIC) partners tell him that very few of them are interested in promoting the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, which goes on sale starting July 18. Board partners have very few custom-design graphics card models in their product stack, and much of this has to do with the card's steep $499 MSRP.

Priced $100 above the original RTX 4060 Ti for essentially double the memory size and no other difference in specs, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB is hard enough to sell at MSRP, premium overclocked models would end up being priced around the $550-mark, which puts it just $50 short of the $599 MSRP of the RTX 4070. The RTX 4070 is around 30% faster than the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, and we doubt if the additional memory size will narrow the gap by more than a couple of percentage points.

NVIDIA is preparing the launch of its third and final RTX 4060-series graphics card SKU, the GeForce RTX 4060 16 GB, for July 18, 2023. Going by past convention, reviews of the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card priced at its steep $499 MSRP, will go live on June 17, and those priced above the MSRP on July 18, alongside market availability. The RTX 4060 Ti is essentially a memory variant of the RTX 4060 Ti. It offers 16 GB of video memory across the card's 128-bit wide memory interface.

According to the specs-sheet put out by NVIDIA on the May 18 launch date for the RTX 4060 series, besides memory size, there are no other differences between the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, and the current RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. In particular, there is no change in the core-configuration or clock-speed, since the shader compute throughput of both models is listed at the same 22 TFLOPs. Even the memory speed is the same, at 18 Gbps (GDDR6-effective), at which the GPU has 288 GB/s of memory bandwidth at its disposal. It will be interesting to see the performance impact of 16 GB memory.

ASUS Chinese GM—Tony Yu—has shown off a graphics card concept on Bilibili that has a rather unusual feature, a slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD. The card is based on NVIDIA's GeForce RT 4060 Ti GPU and although not all details are clear at this point in time, but ASUS is taking advantage of the unused PCIe lanes on the card, since the AD106 GPU only uses eight PCIe lanes, the PCIe connector on the card has space for a further eight lanes. In theory ASUS could have added a pair of SSDs, since there are a total of eight lanes available, but as this was just a proof of concept, they seemingly stuck with a single SSD.

It's unclear if ASUS relies on bifurcation or if the company has added some kind of bridge chip, but bifurcation makes more sense, as a bridge chip would add a lot more cost. The neat thing with the NVMe drive being on the GPU, is that it also connects to the heatsink of the graphics card, which means the cooling should be rather good. However, for this to work properly, the SSD would have to be mounted back to front compared to how it would be mounted on a motherboard. Based on the test results, the SSD runs at a cool 42 degrees C, even when the GPU is being stress tested. It's likely that this product will not make it to markets outside of China, if it's ever launched into retail.

Yeston introduced its first Game Ace RTX 40-series custom graphics card yesterday, with a product launch occurring soon after—only for the Chinese market it seems, so prospective Western buyers will have to carry out a few extra steps to acquire one. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Game Ace is yet another example of the company producing a white PCB-toting graphics card, albeit in the lower mid-range tier. Yeston has released white boards in the past—most notably for its high-end Sakura Sugar series RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XT models.

The Weibo announcement outlines that the RTX 4060 Ti Game Ace will costs around $432 - 460 (3099 - 3299 RMB), and it offers a simple 2-color lighting system: "the combination of pure white and light blue is fresh and soft, and with the blue LED, it will bring you a little coolness in this hot summer." Yeston's press release was lacking in terms of technical details, but the photos show a very basic looking card that lacks a dual-BIOS switch.

The card comes with NVIDIA-reference clock speeds of 2535 MHz boost, and 18 Gbps memory. Based on the 5 nm AD106 silicon, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti features 4,352 CUDA cores, 136 Tensor cores, 34 RT cores, 136 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. This particular card is configured with 8 GB of GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit wide memory interface. The card uses a single 8-pin PCIe power connector.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4060 Ti mid-range graphics card saw its first round of retailer-level price cuts mere hours into its market-availability (starting May 24). The card was seen starting at 439€ (including taxes), but quickly saw its price trimmed by 20€, down to 419€, in what could be very early signs that the card isn't exactly flying off the shelves. Our reviews of the RTX 4060 Ti show it to be barely matching up to the previous-generation RTX 3070 (a card that it was expected to beat), and the prospect of a 439€ graphics card for 1080p gaming, when a 4K-capable Sony PlayStation 5 can be had for around 449€, isn't going down well with gamers. The Comments sections of our reviews show readers to be agitated, to say the least.

A generational performance uplift trend has been for a graphics card from a particular market segment to match or beat the graphics card from a segment above in the previous generation. The RTX 4060 Ti, for example, should be matching the RTX 3070 Ti in performance, while the upcoming RTX 4060 should be matching the RTX 3070. This doesn't seem to be happening, and the RTX 4060 Ti is being offered at the same launch MSRP as the RTX 3060 Ti, which at launch beat even the enthusiast-class RTX 2080 from its preceding generation.

NVIDIA today released the GeForce 532.03 WHQL Game Ready drivers. These introduce support for the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB desktop graphics card the company launched earlier today. The drivers also come with optimization for "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum." The drivers come with a major update for the AI capabilities of GeForce graphics cards with Tensor cores, promising a 2x performance boost in AI inference performance. Among the handful issues fixed with this release are stability issues with "Age of Wonders 4" and broken Ansel and Freestyle with "Bus Simulator 31."
