Modularity takes center stage in Framework's latest laptop innovation—the Laptop 16—showcased at their CES 2024 booth. The TechPowerUp team was there to look at the modules that the company showed. As a bigger brother to their popular Laptop 13, the 16-inch model amps up the modularity with new expansion systems for unrivaled customizability. The showstopper is the laptop's graphics modularity, realizing the long-sought dream of upgradeable discrete GPUs in a laptop. Gamers and creators can swap graphics modules to keep up with the latest technology. The laptop also introduces a modular keyboard deck with interchangeable parts for full input flexibility. Framework's expansive modularity translates to sustainability. Components can be reused, reducing e-waste. The company is open-sourcing designs and engaging partners to participate in the ecosystem.

Starting at $1399 for the DIY edition, the choice is either AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS or Ryzen 9 7940HS CPUs, along with Radeon RX 7700S graphics configured at 100 Watt TGP. A variety of modules and various keyboard positions can be seen in the pictures below, including the configuration with LED matrix spacer, color shifting spacer, different color screen bezels, and much more. Additional modules like SD Card expansion module are coming soon as well.

Acer today announced the Predator BiFrost AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT OC and a trio of Nitro graphic cards powered by the latest AMD Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, including the new AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT GPUs. The new graphics cards empower users to experience immersive gaming experiences when playing the latest AAA titles with up to 16 GB memory and next-gen technologies. Boasting 60 unified AMD RDNA 3 compute units and paired with Predator FrostBlade 3.0 fans, the Predator BiFrost AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card offers seamless performance in 1440p and 4K gameplay. To achieve smooth and fast performance, the Acer Nitro AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT OC graphics card features 16 GB of GDDR6 memory while doubling down on cooling with Nitro FrostBlade ringed fans, a dual-ball bearing system, three heat dissipation vents, and offering a reinforced copper base to efficiently absorb heat and help increase the device's lifespan. The meticulously engineered cooling system delivers the overclocking power gamers need to push the graphics card to its limits.

Even as NVIDIA inches close to the launch of its RTX 40-series SUPER graphics cards in January, AMD could be preparing a product stack update of its own. While NVIDIA's refresh focuses on the higher end of its lineup, AMD looks to spread out more into the mainstream-performance segments. A regulatory filing with the Eurasian Economic Commission mentions the terms "RX 7600 XT," "RX 7700," and "RX 7800," which fill gaps between the RX 7600, RX 7700 XT, and RX 7800 XT.

There exists a rather big gap between the $230 Radeon RX 7600 and the $450 RX 7700 XT, which AMD is looking to fill with the RX 7600 XT and RX 7700 (non-XT). How AMD goes about carving out these two will be interesting to see. The RX 7600 already maxes out the 6 nm "Navi 33" silicon that it's based on, which means to create the RX 7600 XT, AMD might have to tap into the larger (and much more expensive) "Navi 32" MCM. There is a vast gap between the 32 CU (compute units) available to the RX 7600, and the 54 CU that the RX 7700 XT has (while the silicon itself has 60). Besides CU count, AMD has other levers, such as the MCD (memory cache die) count, which could be down to just 2 for the RX 7600 XT, or 3 for the RX 7700. The Radeon RX 7800 is a different beast. AMD faced quite some flack for positioning the RX 7700 XT within $50 of the RX 7800 XT, and now the former can be had for a street price of roughly $430. To be able to squeeze the RX 7800 between the two, AMD might need to widen the gap by pushing the RX 7700 XT down.

AMD has updated its Radeon Adrenalin driver with the latest edition, 23.9.2. The newest version brings unified driver support for AMD Radeon RX 7700 and RX 7800, which the previous driver lacked, and there was a separate download for these two SKUs. Besides merging into a single unified driver, the new update brings Lies of P, Party Animals, and The Crew Motorfest game support for AMD Radeon graphics. In this driver release, the AMD Radeon Anti-Lag+ feature is introduced for Starfield, Witcher 3, ELDEN RING, Immortals of Aveum, and an Anti-Lag+ screen overlay for system latency. AMD fixed some issues like application crashing while playing Baldur Gate 3 with Vulkan API on RX 7900 XTX, limited GPU clock tuning on RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, application crash while playing SMITE on RX 7900 XTX, and application crash or driver timeout while playing F1 2023 on RX 7800 XT. There is no Cyberpunk 2077 update yet in this driver release.

AMD has released the latest version of the Adrenalin software, the version 23.9.1 WHQL. The new AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 23.9.1 WHQL adds support for Radeon RX 7700 and RX 7800 series graphics cards which will be available as of today, as well as adds support for AMD Radeon Anti-Lag, Radeon Boost, and AMD HYPR-RX features.

Sapphire is so far the only AMD add-in-board (AIB) partner to show a reference design for the upcoming Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card. Sapphire has previously revealed a couple of models, including those in its NITRO, PURE, and PULSE series, for both the Radeon RX 7800 XT and the Radeon RX 7700 XT.

The AMD reference design, also known as the AMD MBA (Made by AMD) design, will be available directly from AMD's own official webstore, and so far Sapphire is the only partner to carry such a design. Sapphire is keeping it simple and does not apparently include even a sticker, so you'll be getting the same version that AMD has envisioned. Of course, some custom versions with triple-fan coolers might perform better than AMD's own reference design, and we are sure that the AMD AIB partners will implement factory-overclocked settings on some of its premium versions, like the NITRO+ lineup from Sapphire.

XFX has revealed its own Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT lineup, showing off a total of three SKUs. These include the Radeon RX 7800 XT QICK 319 Core Edition, the Radeon RX 7800 XT MERC 319 Black Edition, and the Radeon RX 7700 XT QICK 319 Black Edition. Interestingly, XFX is skipping AMD's reference design, and focusing on its own custom design for all models. The entire lineup is a part of XFX's Speedster series, with a clean design with "the sole purpose of maximizing airflow to improve cooling and performance."

Unfortunately, XFX has yet to disclose full specifications, so game and boost clocks are still listed as TBA for both the Radeon RX 7800 XT and the Radeon RX 7700 XT models. In terms of design, the XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT QICK features a triple-fan 2.5-slot design with 13 blades and a vented aluminium backplate. It also has a dual BIOS feature. The XFX Radeon RX 7800 XT MERC 319 Black Edition is listed to feature a 2.75-slot triple fan cooler with Vapor Chamber technology, a premium one-piece aluminium stamp cover, and a different and larger direct pass-through venting backplate. It will also feature dual BIOS and, according to specifications, a better dedicated 9-phase GPU VRM. The Radeon RX 7700 XT QICK 319 Black Edition is similar with a 2.5-slot triple fan cooler but has a slightly different design.

PowerColor has released a couple of new teasers for the upcoming Radeon RX 7800/RX 7700 XT launch that is said to be scheduled for August 25th. According to these new teasers, it appears that PowerColor will be introducing both Hellhound and Fighter series versions, in addition to the Red Devil that leaked earlier this month.

PowerColor released two new teasers, one on Twitter and one on Facebook, showing different sides of new graphics cards, and while it did not reveal any specific details, it is obvious that we are looking at the upcoming Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT versions that will be a part of its Hellhound and Fighter series. Unlike the earlier revealed Red Devil version, Hellhound is a bit toned down, but still should come with a decent factory-overclock. So far, PowerColor is teasing only the black version, and it is not clear if we will see the white Hellhound Spectral version. The Fighter series is usually the budget-oriented series, launching at MSRP, so it will be interesting to see how many SKUs PowerColor will announce on August 25th.

AMD will announce new Radeon RX 7000 graphics card models next week at a special event at Gamescom 2023. The AMD Gaming Festival 2023 the company has planned for August 25 has a special media event planned for 17:00 local time, led by Scott Herkelman and Frank Azor, which means this is squarely a Radeon RX event. "Please join the AMD Radeon team at Gamescom next week for our next major product announcements," tweeted Herkelman.

As to what the company is expected to announce, the company didn't put out any specifics, but we predict announcements both on the desktop and mobile segments. For desktops, the company is expected to announce new RX 7800 series and RX 7700 series graphics cards to fill the vast performance gap between the RX 7600 and RX 7900 XT. For mobile, the company might announce the mobile RX 7900 series powered by the compact "Navi 31" package. Frank Azor is a pre-built desktop and notebook systems boss at AMD, and his presence in the show confirms mobile RX 7000 series announcements.

An interesting system popped up on Geekbench Browser early this morning—on initial inspection the evaluated high-end PC was sporting hardware of 2021-vintage, but its graphics card was observed as an outlier. The Intel Core i9-12900K (Alder Lake-S) CPU was sitting on an MSI MPG Z690 Carbon WiFi mainboard, with 64 GB of DDR5 SDRAM (3990 MT/s). The benchmarked computer was running Microsoft Windows 11 Pro (64-bit) on a power saver (economizador) plan. According to the entry's OpenCL information section we are looking at an attached GPU device called "GFX1102 ID," the board name is revealed to be "AMD Radeon PRO W7600" with 8 GB of VRAM. This lower-end alternative to existing (RDNA 3) Radeon Pro models—W7900 (48 GB) and W7800 (32 GB)—could be nearing a public launch.

This information aligns the workstation-oriented card with AMD's Navi 33 GPU—the same GFX1102 designation appears within TPU's database entry (look at the Shader ISA (GFX11.0) graphics feature). VideoCardz reckons that the leaked Radeon PRO W7600 is closely related to AMD's mobile Radeon RX 7700/7600 series—based on Navi 33, due to their matching IDs. Their report proposed: "Based on this data, the GPU is expected to have a clock speed of 1940 MHz. Comparatively, this is 310 MHz lower than the Radeon RX 7600 gaming model, which refers to its Game Clock of 2250 MHz. The Compute Unit field refers to "Workgroup Processor/WGP" cluster, so the card features 32 Compute Units or 2048 Stream Processors, the same configuration as the RX 7600. The card is listed with 8 GB of memory, but it remains uncertain whether this model will support ECC (error correction), a feature found in the W7900/W7800 models. It's important to note that the W6600 did not utilize this type of memory."

As we get closer to a possible late summer/early autumn release window for mid-range AMD Radeon RX 7000-series gaming graphics cards, more leaks have emerged from sources in Asia. Benchlife believes that "in addition to Radeon RX 7900 GRE, AMD and its AIB partners are also preparing two Navi 32 chip graphics cards such as Radeon RX 7800 XT and Radeon RX 7700 XT, which are expected to be available in early September." Previous leaks have indicated that a September launch is planned, albeit with the RX 7800 XT SKU being based on a heavily modified Navi 31 GPU.

Two non-XT units have recently emerged via leaked benchmark results, so there could be a good number of options lined up for a third quarter 2023 launch. Jon Peddle Research (JPR) has added their two cents, by reconfirming that Team Red could be showcasing mid-range models at a late summer trade fair: "AMD is rumored to announce two new 7000-series AIBs at Gamescom in late August. The leaks suggest that AMD is behind NVIDIA in terms of AIBs and has open slots in its SKU lineup. The leaked benchmark data (see below) indicates that the RX 7800 and RX 7700 may compete with the RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti, respectively." JPR proposes that AMD is preparing at least two mid-range models for launch, although this could increase to five. If a mysterious fifth candidate does exist outside of the oft mentioned RX 7700, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 and RX 7800 XT SKUs, where would it be placed in the hierarchy? We can exclude the RX 7900 16 GB GRE GPU since it seems to be a Chinese market exclusive, with performance estimated to be just below RX 7900 XT standards.

A set of intriguing 3DMark Time Spy benchmark results have been released by hardware leaker All_The_Watts!!—these are alleged to have been produced by prototype Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800 graphics cards (rumored to be based on variants of the Navi 32 GPU). The current RDNA 3 lineup of mainstream GPUs is severely lacking in middle ground representation, but Team Red is reported to be working on a number of models to fill in the gap. We expect a number of leaks to emerge as we get closer to a rumored product reveal scheduled for late August (to coincide with Gamescon).

The recently released 3DMark Time Spy scores reveal that the alleged Radeon RX 7700 candidate scored 15,465 points, while the RX 7800 achieved 18,197 points—both running on an unspecified test system. The results (refer to the Tom's Hardware-produced chart placed below) are not going to generate a lot of excitement at this stage when compared to predecessors and some of the competition—evaluation samples are not really expected to be optimized to a great degree. We hope to see finalized products with decent drivers putting in a good appearance and performing better later on this year.
