Improved design also includes the use of smaller MOSFETs and heat sink components, which increases the internal space within the PSU to promote better airflow. All these enhancements not only improve the overall quality of the FOCUS GX (2024) Series, but also make it more efficient and more reliability in the long run.

NVIDIA RTX 5090 "Blackwell" Could Feature Two 16-pin Power Connectors

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang never misses an opportunity to remind us that Moore's Law is cooked, and that future generations of logic hardware will only get larger and hotter, or hungrier for power. NVIDIA's next generation "Blackwell" graphics architecture promises to bring certain architecture-level performance/Watt improvements, coupled with the node-level performance/Watt improvements from the switch to the TSMC 4NP (4 nm-class) node. Even so, the GeForce RTX 5090, or the part that succeeds the current RTX 4090, will be a power hungry GPU, with rumors suggesting the need for two 16-pin power inputs.

TweakTown reports that the RTX 5090 could come with two 16-pin power connectors, which should give the card the theoretical ability to pull 1200 W (continuous). This doesn't mean that the GPU's total graphics power (TGP) is 1200 W, but a number close to or greater than 600 W, which calls for two of these connectors. Even if the TGP is exactly 600 W, NVIDIA would want to deploy two inputs, to spread the load among two connectors, and improve physical resilience of the connector. It's likely that both connectors will have 600 W input capability, so end-users don't mix up connectors should one of them be 600 W and the other keyed to 150 W or 300 W.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series "Blackwell" TDPs Leaked, All Powered by 16-Pin Connector

In the preparation season for NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 50 Series of GPUs, codenamed "Blackwell," one power supply manufacturer accidentally leaked the power configurations of all SKUs. Seasonic operates its power supply wattage calculator, allowing users to configure their systems online and get power supply recommendations. This means that the system often gets filled with CPU/GPU SKUs to accommodate the massive variety of components. This time we have the upcoming GeForce RTX 50 series, with RTX 5050 all the way up to the top RTX 5090 GPU. Starting with the GeForce RTX 5050, this SKU is expected to carry a 100 W TDP. Its bigger brother, the RTX 5060, bumps the TDP to 170 W, 55 W higher than the previous generation "Ada Lovelace" RTX 4060.

The GeForce RTX 5070, with a 220 W TDP, is in the middle of the stack, featuring a 20 W increase over the Ada generation. For higher-end SKUs, NVIDIA prepared the GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, with 350 W and 500 W TDP, respectively. This also represents a jump in TDP from Ada generation with an increase of 30 W for RTX 5080 and 50 W for RTX 5090. Interestingly, this time NVIDIA wants to unify the power connection system of the entire family with a 16-pin 12V-2x6 connector but with an updated PCIe 6.0 CEM specification. The increase in power requirements for the "Blackwell" generation across the SKUs is interesting, and we are eager to see if the performance gains are enough to balance efficiency.

Seasonic Releases Native 12V-2x6 (H++) Cables

Seasonic introduced a new 12V-2x6 modular PSU cable model late last year—at the time, interested parties were also invited to Beta test early examples. Finalized versions have been introduced, via a freshly uploaded YouTube video (see below) and a dedicated product page. The "H++" connector standard—part of a new ATX 3.1 specification—is expected to replace the troubled "H+" 12VHWPR design. The PC hardware community has engaged in long-running debates about the development and rollout of a danger/peril-free alternative. PCI-SIG drafted the 12V-2x6 design last summer.

Seasonic's introductory section stated: "with the arrival of the new ATX 3 / PCIe 5.0 specifications, some graphic cards will now be powered by the new 12V-2x6 connector. Offering up to 600 W of power, the Seasonic native 12V-2x6 cable has been crafted with high quality materials, such as high current terminal connectors and 16 AWG wires to ensure the highest performance and safety in usage." The new cables are compatible with Seasonic's current ATX 3.0 power supply unit range—including "PRIME TX, PRIME PX, VERTEX GX, PX, GX White and Sakura, FOCUS GX and GX White" models. Owners of older Seasonic ATX 2.0 PSUs are best served with an optional 2x8-pin to 12V-2x6 adapter cable—although 650 W rated and single PCIe connector-equipped units are not supported at all. Two native cable models, and a non-native variant are advertised in the manufacturer's video.

Seasonic Intros Vertex Sakura Series Power Supplies

Seasonic unveiled the Sakura trim for the Vertex line of performance segment ATX 3.0 modular power supplies. The trim consists of a unique two-tone body for the PSU consisting of white on four sides, and cherry blossom pink on two (topside and rear), a Sakura printed graphic, an all-white 135 mm fan, and individually-sleeved modular cables that extend the two-tone color scheme of mostly white with cherry blossom pink for a quarter of the individual wires in each cable. Since this is the latest revision of the Seasonic Vertex ATX 3.0 series, it sees 12V-2x6 replace 12VHPWR as the high-Wattage GPU power connector.

The Seasonic Vertex Sakura debuts with a 1000 W model, the GX-1000 Special Edition Sakura. It offers 1000 W of continuous power with full ATX 3.0 and PCIe Gen 5 compliance, and 80 Plus Gold switching efficiency. Connectors include a 24-pin ATX, two 4+4 pin EPS, one 600 W-capable 12V-2x6, three 6+2 pin PCIe power, twelve SATA power (including three SATA 3.3), and a trio of legacy 4-pin power connectors. The package includes cable combs to deal with the individually sleeved cables, a handful Velcro ties, and some zip-ties. The PSU is backed by an industry leading 12-year warranty. Seasonic is confirmed to release the Sakura Special Edition in Japan. There's no information on general availability.

Seasonic Unveils 12V-2x6 (12VHPWR Successor) Cable, Invites Beta Testing

Seasonic is ready with a modular PSU cable for the new 12V-2x6 standard, which succeeds 12VHPWR. Intel felt the need to introduce the new cable standard as part of the new ATX 3.1 specification as the 12VHPWR is flimsy, and poses a burn-out hazard in case of an improper contact. For modular PSU manufacturers, implementing the new connector is as easy as selling or giving away a modular cable that plugs into the 12VHPWR connector on the PSU's backplane, and puts out a 12V-2x6 connector on the other end, and so as a leading power supply OEM, Seasonic is handing out such cables for free, but there's a catch.

Seasonic is giving away a modular PSU cable that plugs into a 12VHPWR on the PSU's backplate on one end, and puts out a new ATX 3.1 standards compliant 12V-2x6 connector on the other end, which promises greater mechanical stability over the 12VHPWR. The cable is free, however, it requires users to sign up to a "Beta Tester Program" by Seasonic. We haven't read the terms and conditions of the program, but we predict it to be a form of waiver against any damage liability—you use the cable at your own risk. The cable features 16-AWG wires, and a connector that's aligned at a 90° angle. The capable is capable of 600 W of continuous output and excursions within the ATX 3.1 and PCIe CEM 5.1 specifications.

Seasonic Launches Updated Prime PX and Prime TX ATX 3.0 Power Supplies

Seasonic has launched the updated Prime PX 1600 Watt PSU that TPU spotted at Computex earlier this month, alongside two new Prime TX models at 1300 and 1600 Watt. The three models all adhere to the ATX 3.0 standard, unlike its predecessors. However, it appears that Seasonic hasn't as yet, at least, decided to update its lower Wattage models to the ATX 3.0 standard. Both 1600 Watt models feature a pair of 12VHPWR connectors, whereas the 1300 Watt model gets to make do with a single 12VHPWR connector. All three models feature no less than nine CPU/PCIe 12 V connectors and six peripheral connectors for modular cables.

The Prime PX is rated for 80 Plus Platinum and the Prime TX for 80 Plus Titanium and this appears to be the only major difference between the two models. Other interesting features include a 135 mm fan with fluid dynamic bearings and a digital hybrid fan control, as well as a bundles basic PSU tester. Both models also come with a 12 year warranty. Price wise, the Prime PX-1600 will retail for US$509.99/€459.99, with the Prime TX-1300 going for US$519.99/€479.99 and finally the Prime TX-1600 will set you back US$609.99/€549.99, suggesting a steep price premium for only a marginally more efficient PSU.
