Just recently, we covered a report shared by a reliable industry insider that stated Apple is readying a launch event, or press release, for the M4-powered MacBook Air lineup. Now, Apple CEO Tim Cook has borderline confirmed the same, with a social media post that reveals a new product carrying the 'Air' moniker is set to be revealed sometime this week. Judging by the short teaser video accompanying the tweet, it can be foreseen that the product in question is none other than the MacBook Air, which is now almost certain to be updated with the M4 SoC later this week.

The M4 SoC is an excellent performer, boasting commendable CPU and GPU capabilities without sacrificing on the efficiency that the industry has come to expect from Apple Silicon. Unfortunately, however, no major changes are expected this time around, especially regarding the exterior. The MacBook Air is currently in the third year of its lifecycle, and a redesign can only be expected once it reaches its fourth birthday. Despite that, the M4 SoC alone is a welcome upgrade for those planning on purchasing a MacBook Air anytime soon. Students, in particular, have always been the MBA's target audience, and a decent spec bump will surely help the product hold its own against AMD's Krackan Point and Intel's Lunar Lake-powered offerings.

AMD's proper introduction of first wave RDNA 4 graphics cards has focused on Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 models; officially due for retail release next week (March 6). Lower-end options popped up—via naming scheme material—during CES 2025, albeit with little fanfare. According to the latest reports emerging from China's tech press, AMD teased an upcoming Radeon RX 9060 Series launch. TechPowerUp's well-maintained GPU database has listed a speculative Radeon RX 9060 XT 12 GB model since early January; a fresh update has revealed the "theorized" existence of a Team Red "Navi 48 LE" GPU.

As reported earlier today, AMD rolled out a "surprise" in-person Chinese RDNA 4 event—in contrast, Western audiences have just watched an official virtual presentation. According to ITHome and VideoCardz, a Team Red representative slipped in a brief mention of the forthcoming Radeon RX 9060 Series. This announcement was made right at the tail end of the company's presentation (in China); teasing a second quarter 2025 launch window. AMD did not go into great detail—ITHome divulged the company's key goals for forthcoming Radeon RX 9060 cards: "mid-range market, focusing on cost-effectiveness, and aiming to provide high-performance/low-power solutions for 1080p and 1440p gamers." Local insiders reckon that the lower-end of AMD's RDNA 4 lineup will be downgraded with fewer computing units and a pool of 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. ITHome's sources believe that Radeon RX 9060 TBPs are expected to be somewhere "between 150 W and 200 W." Speculated MSRP info indicates a range of $349 to $449 (USD) pricing.

Late last week, Colorful Technology revealed a brand-new series of "CVN" motherboards—the manufacturer's Bilibili account hinted at an upcoming launch and uploaded three highly-stylized promotional images. As reported by ITHome, Colorful's debut AMD X870 chipset-based board will be: "equipped with Colorful's first-generation graphics card quick-release device." Western press outlets have covered the functional validity of similar systems in recent times, but Colorful's teaser seems to be poking fun at a rival's current predicament. The incoming CVN X870 series will sport a unique selling point; its GPU removal system features an "ON or OFF" switch. Colorful advertises this proprietary design as being "really safe."

CVN X870 or X870E product pages have not appeared online, but ITHome reckons that this new range will sit in-between Colorful's familiar iGame and Tomahawk motherboard lines. The intended target audience appears to be "mainstream DIY" builders. According to one of the teaser images, Colorful reckons that its silver/white-tinted CVN X870 boards will "live up to expectations." The Chinese manufacturer has devised a new "Frost Armor" structure that covers a board's VRM sections—sporting "composite heat dissipation grooves and heat pipes." Lower-end CVN B840 and B850 models could be in the pipeline, but Colorful is likely testing the waters with its initial launch of X870-equipped fare.

Bonfire Studios, an independent video game developer, is finally coming out of stealth mode, unveiling the name and first details of its debut project, Arkheron. Founded by industry veterans responsible for iconic franchises including Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo, Overwatch, StarCraft and World of Warcraft, the Bonfire team draws on the expertise and design principles honed on those titles to craft an innovative new PvP game. Private playtesting for Arkheron is already underway and will be expanding in the coming months with rolling invites. Players who love fast-paced PvP combat are encouraged to sign up now for a chance to be among the first to play Arkheron and help shape its later stages of development.

Bonfire has been playing and iterating on Arkheron behind-the-scenes for years and began private playtesting sessions with a small community in 2024. While players will find familiar ideas and concepts in Arkheron, it isn't about combining genres—it's about creating something entirely new; a dynamic, fast-paced PvP gameplay experience set in a dark and foreboding world. The team at Bonfire playtests the game every day, and attributes this aspect of their development process to helping them create a fun and unique game they believe will resonate with players.

AMD's keynote presentation—at last week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES)—did not include a segment that covered their next-gen Radeon RX 9000 GPUs. This omission caused quite an uproar across PC hardware communities—Team Red soon responded with its reasonings. Board partner Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 (non-XT) custom models were available for "hands-on" inspections in Las Vegas, but technical specifications and performance figures remained under lock and key. Unofficial leaks and accidental product listings have painted an incomplete picture of the first wave of RDNA 4 products, but AMD seems to be preparing a dedicated launch event.

A recent "Meet the Experts" webinar attracted many queries from curious GPU enthusiasts (including a VideoCardz staffer) regarding Team Red's plans for the initial pair of Navi 48-based graphics cards. Donny Woligroski, AMD's senior processor technical marketing manager, did not provide a concrete answer on an exact launch date—certain leaks have pointed to January 24 as a possible candidate. A special presentation is seemingly on the cards—Woligroski stated: "All I can say about Radeon (9000) is that what we have said is what we can say. We think it deserves its own time in the spotlight, and at CES, things can get kind of washed under a massive amount of information. So stay tuned; it won't be a long time before you'll be hearing more about it in the near future." Industry watchdogs believe that Team Red is strategizing RDNA 4's rollout with eyes trained firmly on Team Green's upcoming new-gen offerings.

Yeston's social media accounts have revealed upcoming NVIDIA "Blackwell" GPU-based Sakura Atlantis, Sakura and Game Ace models—a single teaser image shows off three different cards that will eventually contain GeForce RTX 50 series graphics hardware. Yeston has deployed common aesthetic traits across the three ranges—notably white PCBs and I/O brackets. Yeston previously revealed their new Sakura Atlantis shroud design with its recent announcement of an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT model. Today's product unveiling does not include any information about specific Team Green GPU SKUs, but it would be safe to assume that the upper-echelon models will sport Sakura Atlantis livery.

The older Yeston Sakura and Game Ace designs have been rolled out across a number of current-gen "Ada Lovelace" GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs. A quick analysis of Yeston graphics card product hierarchies shows lower-end GPUs (GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and 4060) sporting the Game Ace shroud. The Sakura design is available across a selection of mid-tier GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and 4070 models. VideoCardz proposes that the Sakura Atlantis cooling solution could be robust enough—based on the Radeon RX 9070 XT's rumored 300 W TBP—to take on GeForce RTX 5080 (360 W) and 5070 Ti (300 W) GPUs. TechPowerUp expects Yeston to make further announcements closer to NVIDIA Blackwell's market debut at the end of this month.

Sapphire has half revealed its new PULSE graphics card design—yesterday's social media post provided an early look at the signature black/gray shroud adorned with red lines. This seems to be Sapphire's first push into marketing their upcoming AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 (non-XT) custom designs. TechPowerUp handled and inspected a new Sapphire PURE model at last week's CES trade event—this particular sample was included in a round-up of Team Red's partner custom designs—but the newly revealed PULSE card was not showcased.

According to a VideoCardz report, Sapphire's new Radeon RX 9000-series NITRO+ model has been teased in AMD's CES-oriented marketing material. The Hong Kong-based tech graphics card specialist chose to not send their Navi 48-based flagship over to Las Vegas—industry experts believe that AIBs are eagerly waiting on Team Red to settle on and announce an official release date. Marketing campaigns are expected to fully kick in closer to RDNA 4's launch window.

MSI has gone all in with NVIDIA's freshly debuted GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" GPU series at CES 2025—an impressive number of custom models have been unveiled on the showroom floor. The TechPowerUp team has sifted through many of MSI's latest and greatest, but also noticed an intriguing set of placards positioned next to the tech firm's vast selection of physical products. The "exclusive" information at hand points to two in-progress GeForce RTX 5090 models—informally named as "Lightning" Special Editions. Company representatives have revealed that the engineering team is concocting a purpose-made PCB design for the two upcoming cards. This board supposedly sports enough differences to distinguish itself from NVIDIA's reference layout (as seen on their Founder's Edition)—industry experts reckon that the majority of AIBs will be utilizing Team Green's standard GeForce RTX 5090 PCB.

The printed graphic indicates that MSI's mysterious liquid cooled Special Edition GeForce RTX 32G will arrive with the "ultimate all-in-one (AIO) water cooling solution"—referred to as their "HydroCool System." A twin STORMFORCE fan configuration is teased alongside advanced airflow channels and a next-gen dual 120 mm AIO liquid cooling system. Custom-engineered water channels are advertised as being capable of flowing "directly through" the card's onboard memory. Dual front intakes and exhausts are said to assist greatly in cooling this Special Edition model, as well as neighboring PC components. Users can implement independent custom fan speed tunings; presumably via MSI software. It will be interesting to see how this in-the-works AIO-based model stacks up against the premium-tier "two-piece" MSI RTX 5090 SUPRIM LIQUID SOC.

San Francisco's annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) returns next week, bringing game devs together to share stories, experiences, and advice on everything from lighting scenes to writing resumes. Electronic Arts speakers will be participating in more than 25 in-person sessions this year, including multiple talks touching on innovative technologies driving the creation of next-gen games at EA.

This year's tech-focused sessions dig into the details of several successes, including Frostbite's non-interruptive expansion to new gaming platforms, SEED's work generating photorealistic facial rigs, and techniques for high-fidelity cloth simulation in Frostbite for EA SPORTS FC 24. There's also a fantastic talk from Respawn's Christopher Pierse and Samy Duc that explores the evolution of matchmaking techniques in Apex Legends, going all the way back to 2019.

NVIDIA's GTC 2024 AI conference will set the stage for another leap forward in AI. At the heart of this highly anticipated event: the opening keynote by Jensen Huang, NVIDIA's visionary founder and CEO, who speaks on Monday, March 18, at 1 p.m. Pacific, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

There are two ways to watch. Register to attend GTC in person to secure a spot for an immersive experience at the SAP Center. The center is a short walk from the San Jose Convention Center, where the rest of the conference takes place. MintRocket's Project TB unveiled as Wakerunners! This is a post-apocalyptic team-based action game set on a future Earth, offering a unique blend of fast-paced combat, diverse characters, and engaging game modes in a Top-Down PVP setting. The official name 'Wakerunners' combines 'Waker', for the human species enhanced with biometric abilities, and 'Runners', for the ability to accelerate and decelerate, which is a key setting in the game's universe.

Game Worldview
In the technologically advanced world of Wakerunners, biometric data chips have granted special abilities to human 'Wakers.' After a global virus outbreak and the fall of lunar debris - Earth lies in ruins, revealing gravitational anomalies and the new energy source, 'Lunium.' Survivors have formed alliances, competing to secure this precious resource and claim rulership of the new world.

Tales of the Shire—a "The Lord of the Rings" game—has been teased by Private Division. The introductory trailer does not contain any gameplay footage, but it indicates that a "cozy" Hobbit-related living habitat will serve as the main environment. A live action sequence shows a character adding yet another drawing to a sketchbook filled to the brim with illustrations of Hobbit life and key Shire locales. Take Two Interactive's indie specialist offshoot will be publishing the game, while Wētā Workshop is listed as Tales of the Shire's main development studio. The latter is best known for creating special effects and props—most notably on the Peter Jackson directed The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit film trilogies.

Wētā Workshop's move into video games seems to be an odd one—but Take Two Interactive and its development partner did announce an unnamed The Lord of the Rings title last summer—Amie Wolken, head of interactive at Wētā Workshop stated (at the time): "It's a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one that's so different from what fans have played previously. As fans ourselves, we're excited for gamers to explore Middle-earth in a way they never have before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings." Private Division has set a very general 2024 launch window, with Tales of the Shire arriving on PC and consoles.

Sony Electronics yesterday tweeted about an upcoming product launch date: "For the silence. For the sound. Stay tuned...you'll want to hear this." The teaser image and brief message could hint at the WF-1000XM5 wireless earbuds finally arriving at retail. The tweet puts emphasis on high quality sound reproduction and noise cancelling capabilities, so the company seems to be confident in marketing their next gen model as a leap over the popular WF-1000XM4.

Renders and specifications for the fifth generation Sony wireless earbuds have been leaked online several times this year. The WF-1000XM5 seems to be smaller and lighter than its predecessor with each bud weighing 5.9 grams, and the (likely Qi wireless charging capable) cradle coming in at 39 grams. Eye-balled dimensions suggest a profile closer to the WF-C700N. Many owners of the WF-1000XM4 have complained about inconsistent and uncomfortable fits in ear canals, due to the unit's relatively substantial design—a more compact bud would be most welcome. Multi-point connectivity seems to be the main feature that will be ready and present out of the box, otherwise leaked specs do not present anything else that really stands out. The WF-1000XM4 launched last Autumn with an MSRP of $280—will Sony be charging more for a mild set of improvements, or are they going to wow us with an amazing next-gen aural experience?

Sapphire has officially boarded the white PCB design train, a trend most popular within China's PC hardware market—the Hong Kong-based graphics card specialist is teasing its oddly named "Power Elves" custom cooling solution. They have decided to pair this new look with non-cutting edge silicon, namely AMD's Radeon RX 6500 XT GPU. The budget Navi 24 XT (RDNA 2) card looks to be cooled by a single fan and heatsink array housed within a shroud approximating a Mini-ITX form factor.

Sapphire appears to using its "Angular Velocity Fan Blade," as seen on its Radeon RX 7000-series PULSE and NITRO custom models, so it is somewhat odd that we are not seeing a new-ish RX 7600 GPU in fresh Polar Elves/all-white livery. Since the company is merely teasing this upcoming 4 GB model (at the time of writing) we can assume that it will be served by the normal single 8-pin power connector, and its name assignment suggests a factory overclock will be applied as standard.

From Annapurna Interactive, Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth brings the revered franchise back to games for the first time in 25 years. Set between the original film and 2049, Blade Runner 2033 takes place after the events of the Blackout and asks: what does a Blade Runner do when there are no Replicants left to hunt? Today we showed Bungie fans worldwide a glimpse of our future at the PlayStation Showcase, in the forms of two major game announcements. First up, we officially announced Marathon to the world! This is the first completely new project from Bungie in more than a decade. Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter where players will embody cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners. Exploring a lost colony on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Runners - working solo or as part of three-person crews - will fight for survival, for riches, and for fame.

We're incredibly excited to announce the game and to share our vision for the future. We know that you are curious to know more, and we will have much to say in the future. For now, know that Marathon is currently in development on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, featuring cross save and cross play.
