Around late April, Chinese industry insiders started whispering about a possible halting of NVIDIA GB202 "Blackwell" GPU shipments into the region. Team Green's local board partners released custom "market exclusive" GeForce RTX 5090D 32 GB cards; featuring slightly downgraded flagship silicon. Since launch, Chinese hardcore gaming enthusiasts and DIY AI firms have observed impressive performance credentials, despite the presence of factory limited specifications. On May 6, reports suggested a complete halt of GeForce RTX 5090D sales in China. Fresher rumors indicate NVIDIA's engineering team return to the drawing board; with their alleged preparation of an even weaker GeForce RTX 5090D design.

A group of Baidu tipsters have discussed a key area of (further) compromise: VRAM capacity. The original GeForce RTX 5090D configuration was armed with 32 GB of GDDR7 VRAM; mid-May speculation envisioned a 24 GB variant. Earlier today, harukaze5719 highlighted an intriguing Weibo post. Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune Story Pack Available Now

In Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune, the second story pack for Star Wars Outlaws, Kay Vess and her companion Nix team up with legendary pirate Hondo Ohnaka for a new adventure filled with pirates and lost treasures. A Pirate's Fortune is now available on Ubisoft+ Premium, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna, and PC via Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, and Steam. For those who haven't played the open-world Star Wars game yet, a free demo is available on most platforms where Star Wars Outlaws is already available, giving players a chance to hop on their speeder, seek out a heavy to join their crew, and team up with Nix within a part of the base game for up to three hours. In A Pirate's Fortune, Kay and Nix set off to explore the Khepi system, a new space region containing a heavily ionized nebula, in search of hidden treasures. La Quimera Relaunched into Early Access; Dev Team Encourages Fan Feedback

Late last month, La Quimera did not launch on its promised release date (April 26). At the time, the game's development team—Reburn—sent out an apology (via Discord), but their short statement did not delve into too much explanatory detail. Industry watchdogs proposed revised launch windows; potentially later on in 2025. Apparently, last month's "version 1.0" review code was not well received—content and performance-wise. Additionally, a mid-month closed beta program was reportedly nixed within 24 hours of kicking off—early community feedback suggests participants experiencing a myriad of problems. As promised during non-launch week, Reburn has provided a more comprehensive update about forward progress—in the renewed form of La Quimera; available now in Early Access.

Within the title's rebooted Steam page, Reburn outlines a revised release schedule (subject to change): "La Quimera, our narrative-driven sci-fi FPS, is now live on Steam in Early Access!..We plan to remain in Early Access for up to 18 months. This timeline may adjust based on feedback and the pace of development, but our goal is to deliver a fully polished experience within that timeframe...The Early Access version currently includes the first four levels of the campaign, featuring fully integrated narrative and gameplay elements. It offers approximately five hours of story-driven content, designed to demonstrate the core experience we are building toward. The current build is stable and fully playable, though bugs and balance adjustments are expected as we continue refinement." Interested parties can give this "still in progress" iteration a try; Steam early access pricing is $29.99.

In Rust, a multiplayer survival game by Facepunch Studios, everyone starts off with only a rock and torch and must gather resources, build bases and fend off environmental threats and other players in a harsh, open-world setting. The game features intense player vs. player combat, dynamic alliances and frequent updates. Crocodiles, snakes and tigers—oh my! The latest update introduces a new jungle biome: a lush but dangerous environment filled with crocodiles, snakes, tigers and other wildlife. Hyper Light Breaker Buried Below Update Addresses Several Major Complaints As Dev Works to Salvage Roguelike

Hyper Light Breaker received some significant criticism immediately after launch, largely for clunky combat, insubstantial progression, and a lack of world-building. Some community feedback is to be expected, since Hyper Light Breaker is still in Steam Early Access, but the community backlash was unexpected, given the success that the game's predecessor, Hyper Light Drifter, garnered. The first major content update aimed at addressing much of the criticism has just dropped on Steam, and many of the changes seem to be welcome by the community.

Some of the biggest changes to Hyper Light Breaker introduced in the Buried Below update include changes to character progression, weapon synergies, and the overall gameplay loop itself. Heart Machine also introduced a new playable character, Rondo, two new melee weapons, a new mini boss—a Crown called Maw—with its own player perks, and new areas for players to explore. Heart Machine also says it has streamlined the game's onboarding process, and that the changes to the game should make the game easier to get into for new players but more difficult to master. In terms of the gameplay loop, the new update reduces player lives from four per run to one per run, making things much less forgiving, however, players will also now always spawn in one of two locations, making the start of a new run more predictable. There are also a number of improvements to the enemy AI that should make encounters and battles somewhat more challenging and interesting. Players are also locked to a single character and companion for the duration of each run, which is a substantial change from the previous system which allowed players to switch characters and Sycoms mid-run. There are a number of other balance patches and new additions, which you can read about in the full patch notes below. Overall, judging from the comments in the Steam Community discussion under the update patch notes, players seem to be tentatively excited about the majority of the changes to the gameplay loop, although some concerns remain.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Multiplayer Spotted Hiding in Plain Sight: PvP and Co-Op May Be In the Works

Recent evidence has emerged that Ubisoft may indeed be planning to—or may have been planning to—launch multiplayer game modes for Assassin's Creed Shadows. An online sleuth analyzed the Assassin's Creed Shadows website's Boostrap files and found several mentions of Multiplayer and PVP maps and training areas in the files. It may, thus, be the case that the introduction of the new Animus Hub may have been a move to facilitate multiplayer gameplay.

That said, Ubisoft recently hosted an Assassin's Creed Shadows 1 Year Roadmap on YouTube, and there was no direct mention of multiplayer gameplay in the roadmap. Ubisoft did, however, hint at the addition of what it called Special Collaborations in the regular content section and new Animus content coming in the near future. Previous leaks indicated that the multiplayer modes in AC Shadows would feature a co-op mode, akin to Assassin's Creed Unity, but the new leaks indicate that Ubisoft may be planning a PVP mode, as well, which would make it much more like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It's also possible that the mention of multiplayer in the site files is just left-over information from before the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ubisoft has scrapped the idea altogether. As we reported previously, it has been a rocky road to get Assassin's Creed Shadows to launch, with Ubisoft switching up its launch strategy and delaying the game twice ahead of the official launch.

Far Cry 4 (2014) will now run at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PS5 Pro, thanks to a free update deployed this week. Microsoft Launches Recall and Integrates AI into Search, Plus Other Updates

Microsoft has deployed three AI features to Copilot+ PCs through the Windows 11 April 2025 non-security preview update. Users can finally access the long-promised Recall, Click to Do, and enhanced Windows Search by enabling "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" in Settings > Windows Update. Recall operates as a background capture system that takes periodic screenshots, encrypts them via the device's TPM chip, and stores them locally. The system creates a searchable index organized by keywords, dates, and applications. Privacy controls include Windows Hello authentication for settings changes, app-specific exclusions, customizable retention periods, and snapshot deletion options. Windows E3 enterprise deployments can implement Group Policy controls for centralized management.

Click to Do functions at the window manager level, activated by Win + Click or touchscreen right swipe. The context-aware tool provides different capabilities based on content type, offering summarization and translation for text, and background removal and editing for images. Image processing works across all Copilot+ hardware, while text functionality currently supports only Snapdragon processors, with AMD Ryzen AI 300-series and Intel Core Ultra 200V compatibility scheduled for later release. The updated Windows Search implements a compact language model running directly on the device's NPU. This enables natural-language queries throughout Windows interfaces, allowing users to find content without exact filenames. The system operates on NPUs rated at over 40 TOPS and delivers 70 percent faster retrieval than Windows 10.

AMD Releases Ryzen Chipset Software 7.04.09.545

AMD has released the latest version of the Ryzen Chipset Software, version 7.04.09.545, which introduces new bug fixes and adds new device IDs. The Ryzen Chipset Software drivers support AMD 300-series to 800-series desktop chipsets, as well as TRX and WRX series Ryzen Threadripper chipsets. The new version still includes several known issues that will hopefully be addressed in future updates, including the issue where after installing the AMD Chipset Installer version "7.xx.xx.xx", users cannot install older version "6.xx.xx.xx" or earlier drivers. Thankfully, there is a workaround detailed below. It also includes an issue where non-English driver names appearing in the English language selection and an issue with occasional failure to install or upgrade Ryzen PPKG.

Nintendo Revises Switch 2 Product Info; VRR Support Scrubbed from Some Official Sites

Digital Foundry's Oliver Mackenzie and a member of the Resetera video game discussion forum have alerted the wider community to a small change within the text on several of Nintendo's Switch 2 product web presences. Mackenzie's social media post included a comparative screenshot; showing before and after conditions; Digital Foundry's Canadian correspondent provided comment: "some weird stuff going on at Nintendo. Looks like they've changed their US website to no longer mention VRR support for TV play? Only HDR and 120 Hz support get a call-out." Additional press coverage has put spotlights on Nintendo's Japan and Canada websites; both regional offices have scrubbed "VRR" (variable refresh rate) from Switch 2 promotional material. At the time of writing, Nintendo of Europe and UK's hardware feature sections still showcase an unadulterated description: "bring games to life with a larger 1080p screen—or connect to a TV and play in up to 4K resolution. Support for HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 FPS let you enjoy brilliant colour, clarity, and smooth gameplay."

Video Games Chronicle and a few other news sites have reached out to Nintendo for comment regarding this confusing situation. The Switch 2 maker is notorious for its guarded stance when discussing technical details—as evidenced recently, by a top employee deflecting responsibility in NVIDIA's general direction. Mackenzie reckons that VRR support—when paired with compatible televisions and monitors—could be added post-launch (June 5). It is possible that Nintendo's engineering department has removed this feature from its day one bag of tricks. Meanwhile, the Switch 2's surprisingly capable integrated display is expected to arrive without any technological compromises.

Larian Releases Final Baldur's Gate 3 Patch; Studio Moving onto "Something New"

Well folks, this is it. Our final major game patch for Baldur's Gate 3. You've helped us make BG3 a bigger success than any of us could've ever hoped for, and that passion could keep us tweaking things and making changes until the end of time. But then we'd never be able to create something new. Outside of minor bug fixing, Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content. That means we won't be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters, or companions. We've told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we're continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.

ASML Reports €7.7 Billion Total Net Sales and €2.4 Billion Net Income in Q1 2025

  • ASML expects Q2 2025 total net sales between €7.2 billion and €7.7 billion, and a gross margin between 50% and 53%
  • ASML continues to expect 2025 total net sales to be between €30 billion and €35 billion, with a gross margin between 51% and 53%
CEO statement and outlook
"Our first-quarter total net sales came in at €7.7 billion, in line with our guidance. The gross margin was 54.0%, above guidance, driven by a favorable EUV product mix and the achievement of performance milestones. In the first quarter, we shipped our fifth High NA system, and we now have these systems at three customers. Our conversations so far with customers support our expectation that 2025 and 2026 will be growth years. However, the recent tariff announcements have increased uncertainty in the macro environment and the situation will remain dynamic for a while. As previously shared, artificial intelligence continues to be the primary growth driver in our industry. It has created a shift in the market dynamics that benefits some customers more than others, contributing to both upside potential and downside risks as reflected in our 2025 revenue range.

The premium-tier ASUS offering managed to top TPU's "Maximum Overclock Comparison" GeForce RTX 5080-class table; comfortably leading the pack with an out-of-the-box (default) 400 W power setting. Reviewers and well-heeled owners—of this $1500+ special quad-fan package—have lamented the apparent lack of extra headroom.
