Koolance announced its Radeon R9 290X-compatible full-coverage water block, the VID-AR290X. If the upcoming Radeon R9 290 (non-X) ends up being based on the same PCB, it will be compatible with that card as well. Materials used in its construction include nickel-plated copper (primary block), nickel-plated brass (fittings), and stainless steel (bolts). Tops come in clear acrylic and opaque acetal options. This product will directly cool the GPU, RAM as well as VRM (voltage regulation module) as water will flow directly over these critical areas thus allowing the graphics card and its VRM to remain stable under high overclocks.

After releasing the ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe full cover block in August, Bitspower is currently working on a second full cover motherboard block, this time around designed for ASUS' latest mITX marvel, the Maximus VI Impact, arguably the top Haswell mITX motherboard currently available. The block, like it's previously released sibling, is what Bitspower calls a U.S.C design (Unibody Style Construction Design), which is a concept Bitspower uses to define a single solid block that covers all the major heat generating parts on a motherboard. In this case, the Z87 chipset, the CPU/socket and the vertical VRM.

Bitspower uses C1100 Copper for the block's base and hi-quality acrylic for the top cover. The base comes in two versions, Nickel plated or bare Copper, while the top can be had in ICE Black of Clear acrylic, making possible a total of four chromatically distinct versions of the block. The product package will include a thermal pad, a 2.5 grams syringe of Arctic Matrix thermal compound, a backup o-ring and the usual assortment of mounting screws and accessories.

At a local press gathering in Turkey, AMD revealed the launch date of its next high-end product, the Radeon R9 290X. The press NDA over the card will end on October 15, 2013, at 12:01 AM EST (Berlin time). This NDA expiry time was disclosed in the slides that AMD showed the press. There's always the possibility that the NDA expiry date doesn't match market availability. It could merely mark NDA expiry for the press to post reviews of their AMD reference-design R9 290X (the only kind of R9 290X that will be initially available). AMD is handling R9 290X launch much in the same way NVIDIA handled the GTX TITAN, in that there won't be non-reference design cards in the foreseeable future, with the exception of cards with factory-fitted full-coverage water-blocks.

EK Water Blocks, Ljubljana based premium water cooling gear manufacturer, is issuing a note regarding changes in EK-FC770 GTX series water block compatibility list. It has come to our attention that EVGA GeForce GTX 770 graphics cards with 4GB of video memory are now incompatible with EK-FC770 GTX due to use of non-standard inductor coils, namely for the Vdd voltage regulation circuity. Force installing the water block on to the affected graphics card will result in dangerously warped circuit board and is as such deemed not safe for use (as shown on the photo below).

Designed with industrial applications in mind, these new general-purpose cold plates from Koolance could prove quite useful for creative modders and liquid cooling enthusiasts. The plates feature a flexible mounting system that can accommodate a wide variety of applications such as LED arrays, Peltier elements, image sensors and specialized semiconductor cooling. The materials used are nickel plated copper (for the base), nickel plated brass (for the top) and EPDM for the o-ring.
