The ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X features a 14 phase VRM in a (6 x 2) + (1 x 2) configuration. The basic components are largely identical to the recent Phantom Gaming 7, but there are more of them.

The Intersil ISL69138 PWM controller supports a maximum of seven phases in various configurations. In order to achieve 14 phases, ASRock used four Intersil ISL6617A doublers located on the back of the board. In order to cram in more Vcore phases, ASRock opted for doublers for the SOC as well, which is unlike the Phantom Gaming 7.

Unlike the Phantom Gaming 7, which has two different power stages for Vcore and SOC, the ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X uses the SiC634 from Vishay across the board. There is a little bit of thermal pad caked on the SOC power stages, but it is not electrically conductive and completely harmless.

The ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming X has a maximum output of 600 A, which is far above what any 9900K could possibly draw even when using LN2. This VRM definitely qualifies as overbuilt.
