Dark Project ME1 Review

Software

While the other two Dark Project mice have perfectly functional English drivers, the ME1 driver is only available in Russian for some reason. This alone wouldn't be a big issue, but unless you have Russian locales installed, you won't be able to see half the options, and of course can't copy them to the clipboard either, which means Google Translate won't be your friend here. Thankfully, the program is very lightweight, and if you decide to uninstall it, the mouse will store all settings to its on-board memory.

You can choose between five profiles at the bottom of the main window—these can be imported and exported. In order to save your settings, you need to either press the OK button or the button next to it. The one on the far right cancels your settings. There are three main tabs, the first being for button mapping. You can remap everything, including the scrolling, which is a nice touch, especially if you can find out what the question marks mean. Moving on to the second tab, it contains most of the performance settings. You can find the resolution settings on the first page, and the polling rate on the second one. The third page has the Windows-related pointer settings. The other three I wasn't able to figure out, and the third tab has the lighting options, of which there are not many, but these can at least be translated.

The Dark Project logo at the back of the mouse can be set to light up according to the lighting settings in the software. The lighting is far from the greatest I've ever seen as it could be brighter and more vivid, but it's generally alright. There are three options to choose from; solid, breathing, and rainbow effects are available.
