Value and Conclusion

  • The Dream Machines DM1 Pro is currently available for $ 39.99 directly from their website.
  • Cheap
  • Excellent switches, not too soft, not too hard.
  • Comfortable due to size and weight
  • Sleeved cable allows movement but there is no snagging
  • No driver to install
  • Feels durable
  • Lack of software means you are restricted in terms of tweaking the DPI
  • No way to select LED colors without changing the DPI.
The Dream Machines DM1 Pro was a little bit of a surprise to me. We were contacted to see if we were able to take a look, and I didn't have any information on it previous to receiving the sample. I hadn't seen it at any event, and I hadn't seen any reviews of it. I was completely in the dark, and am glad for it now. I couldn't get caught up in any marketing hype and had to test it as it is. The shell of the DM1 Pro is obviously a tried and tested shape with many other brands either looking the same or similar. As the saying goes: if it isn't broke, why fix it? Its shape makes it comfortable to use for most users and has no real downsides. The soft-touch coating is also comfortable, and once you are used to the weight, it also is fine, although those who prefer a heavier mouse may struggle.

As expected, the 3310 optical sensor works very well, being the same sensor companies like Zowie, Steelseries, Mionix, Roccat, Corsair and many others use. It is a great sensor and tracks well with no jitters or other issues. However, I would have liked this mouse to come with the 3360 sensor, but do know that such a mouse is in the works with the DM1 Pro-S. The 3310 will help keep the price down.

The DM1 Pro is an excellent overall mouse for the price. At under $40, I honestly think it could be a real player in the gaming scene. I would directly compare it to mice from Zowie or SteelSeries in terms of performance. Obviously, time will be the real test to see just how durable the DM1 Pro is, but my initial impressions tells me that it is just as sturdy as its competitors, and at $40, it is far cheaper than some comparable products.

A simple software suite with which we could fine-tune DPI settings and change the LED color, which would have the DM1 Pro match my other peripherals on my desk, would be nice, but it is still a very very good option as it stands.
