If you're going to build your system, turn it on, and never look into the BIOS, the ECS Z170 LIGHTSABER might be worth a look. At stock settings, the board does fairly well, although there are some problematic areas, as shown in the benchmarks. If you want to overclock the ECS Z170 LIGHTSABER, you might be in for a fair bit of work and little success. For a board that seemingly supports overclocking, that's not good!
Overclocking has never been ECS's forte. They are a small company and don't have the capability for BIOS development like some of the bigger brands. Their hardware design is great, but there's more to putting a motherboard to use as an enthusiast than simply running stock.
I can understand the lack of SLI support. That costs money. No USB 3.1 Type-C? OK, not everyone has such devices yet anyway. No Wi-Fi? There's a traditional LAN controller, even if it's not everyone's favorite. M.2 port a bit slow? Don't toss a Samsung 950 PRO in it and go for something a bit more affordable. There's ways to overcome most of the minor issues here with the ECS Z170 LIGHTSABER, but the BIOS, that's one you have to wait for ECS to fix. Got one? Let us know in the forums!
