Value and Conclusion

  • The Metallic Gear Neo-G Mini sells for US$80 excl. taxes.
  • Sexy design using a glass front panel
  • Sweet print on the front and side glass panels
  • Excellent cooling potential for a case of this size, including liquid cooling
  • Vertical mounting spot for GPUs, even allowing for triple-slot ones
  • GPUs of up to 345 mm will fit (with air cooling in the front)
  • Full-size ATX units of up to 190 mm are perfectly suited
  • Tower air-cooling of up to 160 mm in size can fit
  • LED switch on the side of the chassis
  • Dust filter on all intake areas
  • Compact design for what it can hold
  • Can hold three hard drives
  • Great cable management for a case of this style
  • Go for the non-G version if you want a solid front panel
  • Liquid cooling means you will have to watch the length of the GPU you plan to use
  • Two fans out of the box would have been ideal
  • Plastic side cover for air vent would have been most useful if modular
The Metallic Gear Neo-G Mini is one beautiful piece of enclosure right out of the box. With the glass front and side panels, there is only so much that can be done in terms of design, and Metallic Gear has chosen to add depth by printing a sleek design on these. On the side, this even serves a purpose by hiding the power supply from view nicely.

Even with the limitations, the detail of engineering with the Neo-G Mini clearly shows its roots as the Phanteks team is known for the elaborate functionality of their cases. The same goes for the overall quality of the Metallic Gear as it is uncompromisingly solid. Just look at how the sides of the front panel have been designed and engineered to include fine mesh filters, or how the seemly, simple interior comes together to allow for potent liquid cooling without compromising on the core functions or space.

That said, I would have loved to see two 120 mm fans in the front right out of the box to ensure users have that uniform look and feel without having to either drop the existing one in favor of two other units or be forced to buy the exact same one again. In terms of price, I feel like it should have been possible to give users that added value, especially as Metallic Gear is aiming the brand at the more main stream part of the market.

Even so, there is essentially nothing wrong with the case, and the Metallic Gear Neo-G Mini is a sexy case for those who like glass, and those who do not can opt for the "non-G" variant with a solid front panel instead.
