Overclocking
The overclocks listed in this section were achieved with the default fan and voltage settings as defined in the VGA BIOS. Please note that every single sample overclocks differently, that's why our results here can only serve as a guideline for what you can expect from your card.
Maximum stable clocks of our card are 1230 MHz core (17% overclock) and 1615 MHz Memory (35% overclock).
GPU overclocking works well, and it's surprising to see such a big increase, even over the already overclocked default speed. Compared to our reference HD 7870, we see 25 MHz more.
Memory overclocking works exceedingly well, too. 1615 MHz, is 100 MHz higher than what we got out of our AMD HD 7870 board.
Using these clock frequencies we ran a quick test of Call of Duty 4 to evaluate the gains from overclocking.
Actual 3D performance gained from overclocking is 18.1%.
Temperatures
Temperatures are low, but given the noise in 3D, I'd have preferred 10°C more under load, in return for reduced fan speeds, which in turn would make the card much quieter.
Clock Profiles
Modern graphics cards have several clock profiles that are selected to balance power draw and performance requirements.
The following table lists the clock settings for important performance scenarios and the GPU voltage that we measured. We measure on the pins of a coil or capacitor near the GPU voltage regulator.
| Core Clock | Memory Clock | GPU Voltage (measured) |

Desktop | 300 MHz | 150 MHz | 0.84 V |
