These images are unresized 1920x1200 each, showing you the image quality difference between 0xAF/AA, 8xAF/8xS AF & 16xAF/16xS AA
The same behavior can be seen in Quake 4. As soon as the 16x settings were selected the frame rates dropped by just over 50% no matter what resolution. This made the game unplayable at all of these resolutions.

The performance drop in Fear was not as high at 1024x768 but almost nobody still uses such a low resolution. Turning it up to 1600x1200 resulted in 16 frames per second, way too low to play the game.
