RTX 4070 SUPER FE Unboxing

As we described earlier, the RTX 4070 SUPER Founders Edition box opens along a diagonal axis. The card is the first thing you see when you open it, and it's glorious! Held face-down into a frame and Styrofoam insert that cushions it, the card's backplate greets you first. This insert is surrounded by a frame that has a radiating artwork.

The Founders Edition box is a big black cuboid. You have to strain your eyes to see the grayed out logos, the only legible things are the regulatory stickers on the underside. The box doesn't open sideways or even along a central axis like a clamshell, but rather along a diagonal axis. This allows NVIDIA to use the larger 45-degree diagonal to present the card, surrounded by a stylized frame. This entire frame can be pulled out, to reveal a smaller accessories box.

There was a time when graphics card accessory boxes included manuals, driver DVDs, power cables, display adapters, etc. All that is gone, and the only accessory you get is an NVIDIA designed adapter that converts two 8-pin PCIe power connectors to a 12VHPWR connector that's capable of 300 W continuous power delivery. The box also contains a pictographic quick-setup sheet, and some safety info.

RTX 4070 SUPER FE: The Card

A common theme between the RTX 4070 SUPER FE and RTX 4080 SUPER FE that distinguishes them from the older RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 cards is the all-black theme. The magnesium alloy frame now comes in a slick matte black finish, with diamond-cut edges that aren't silver, but rather glossy black. The heatsink continues to be matte black, as on the original RTX 40-series FE cards, along with the fans.

To make it absolutely clear that this is a SUPER card, the backplate element that's right behind the PCB does away with the white RTX 4070 lettering, and instead has "RTX 4070" in recessed lettering, next to the SUPER brand extension in raised lettering.

The rear I/O expansion bracket is carried over with its dark gunmetal finish. Display connectors include three DisplayPort 1.4, and one HDMI. And that about wraps up the RTX 4070 SUPER, but stay tuned for some pictures of custom design cards in the next page!
