Acoustics
Fan Noise and Deck Thermals (Subjective)
On the outside, the Origin PC EON17-X runs nice and cool, with the keyboard deck barely warm to the touch. When the fans spin up, it feels as though some air is drawn in through the keys, cooling them down while creating an interesting sensation, so perhaps there's some automatic palm cooling, too! Even after a long gaming session, the surface of the laptop barely reached above 40 °C, with only the hottest of areas going any higher.
On the inside, we have a different story, albeit similar. At idle, we see 50 °C on the CPU and 45 °C on the GPU. During intense gaming, we see up to 90 °C on CPU and 65 °C on the GPU. Fan speeds are high under load, but do not reach maximum levels, at 80 °C gaming load temperatures on the CPU, while the GPU stays at 65 °C and sometimes increases clock speed with the provided overhead.
Subjective Audio Quality
We have a fairly capable-looking speaker, along with a subwoofer mounted on one side. The speakers are hidden behind an angled grille, and I must say, 3D positioning offered by the EON17-X was pretty good for a laptop, far better than any other laptop I have tested so far.
Combining the Two
For most uses, browsing the internet and watching Netflix, I used 30% volume on the Origin PC EON17-X. In gaming, the fans spin up and are fairly loud, which had me increase the volume to 60%. Increasing the volume further, to 100%, provided no distortion and really good audio, although there was some resonance from within the laptop's body.
