Exterior
The NAS is compact because it doesn't use an internal power supply. At its front are the LED indicators and a USB 3.0 port, which is handy, along with the copy and power buttons.
A perforated Synology logo has been put on both sides of the chassis.
On the bottom of the NAS are four rubber feet and a small label with the model number and power requirements.
Most I/O ports are, as per usual, on the rear. We find two Ethernet and a couple of USB 3.0 ports, an eSATA port, and the power socket. There is also a Kensington lock along with the reset button, which is underneath the chassis, so you won't be able to reach it with your bare hands.
The trays are out of plastic, and while there are locks, these don't provide adequate physical protection.
Synology was kind enough to send the NAS loaded with Seagate IronWolf disks. However, we will use our own for all measurements to be comparable with other NAS servers in our database.
