ThieAudio Wraith Planar Magnetic Headphones Review

Introduction

ThieAudio Logo

ThieAudio holds a special place in my heart because my review of the audio brand's Legacy 5 IEMs heralded the start of frequency response measurements for headphones and earphones here on TechPowerUp, as part of our goal to give you the most detailed product reviews possible. We have since seen five ThieAudio products being reviewed thus far and all of them happen to be in-ear monitors (IEMs). Indeed, I already have another ThieAudio IEM review in the works and yet I was quite excited when the company announced a return to the over-ear headphones market with the Wraith.

The ThieAudio Wraith is a set of open-back planar magnetic headphones that launched in July 2022 and I had immediately expressed my interest in covering it given the positive impressions left thus far from ThieAudio in general. It's previous foray into headphones—also an open-back planar magnetic set called the Phantom—was met with middling success both commercially and via reviews, but that was also from a while back—aka 2019, which is a lifetime in audio years—before the so-called ChiFi audio brands started to show their prowess in tuning drivers better than most others. Expectations were high thus and then I was told to hang on for a while since new ear pad accessories were in the works. Given how much ear pads can affect the sound signature of headphones, it made sense to wait it out. It took longer than expected but here we are taking a look at the current retail version of the ThieAudio Wraith and thanks to Linsoul for providing a review sample to TechPowerUp!
