Transcend StoreJet 25A3 Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Transcend 25A3 1TB USB 3.0 Drive should sell for around 70 euros incl. taxes or 80 US dollars excluding taxes.
  • 256-bit AES encryption
  • One-touch backup button
  • Available in black or white
  • Excellent small file USB 3.0 performance
  • Very good USB 2.0 read performance
  • 3-year warranty
  • No extras—just the cable and manual
  • Overall USB 3.0 performance not quite as fast as other drives out there
  • Slower than expected USB 2.0 write performance
At first sight, the Transcend StoreJet 25A3 does not bring anything to the table other drives manage at lower price tags. But upon a second look, it is one of the most affordable units on the market with 256-bit AES encryption and one-touch backup functionality. That said, I wish the drive would perform a bit better here and there, but its lower performance can probably be traced back to the fact that we received the 1TB model holding a drive with several platters instead of a few with a higher density each. The Transcend StoreJet may not be the speediest, but those looking at the drive because of its encryption capabilities and the ability to backup files at the push of one button will most likely not care about its slightly slower transfer speeds. So for that purpose, the Transcend StoreJet 25A3 sets itself apart well enough from the competition, offering the same extras in combination with a long 3-year warranty to justify a recommendation.
