Oracle in Market for a Major Chipmaker
Oracle corporation is on a big buying spree after this year's acquisition of Sun Microsystems, a prominent server builder. Oracle wants to strengthen its enterprise IT business with the acquisition of a major chip-maker, right now AMD, IBM (its processor division), and NVIDIA are being named by prominent analysts. "You're going to see us buying chip companies," Ellison, 66, said yesterday at Oracle's annual meeting in San Francisco. Currently its subsidiary, Sun Microsystems has its own processor architecture, the SPARC. Gleacher & Co. analyst Doug Freedman predicts Oracle is chasing AMD, IBM (chip division) and NVIDIA. "You've got to think it's focused on enterprise hardware, on the server," he said. "AMD jumps off the screen."

Then again as oracle has 16 core cpu's (8 threads per core for 128 threads per cpu source) then would nvidia be the best buy for its gpu I.P although ocne again i have to wonder if they would sell.
Any thoughts on that?
Plus i must LOL at analysts discussing IBM selling it's chip division to Oracle - that would be like AMD selling Intel their graphics division (Oracle and IBM are in direct competition in key areas).
And I really couldn't imagine Oracle purchasing AMD, but stranger things have happened.....
That should be enough evidence of my loathing of Oracle.
IBM's processor division makes more sense -- big iron is what IBM does, aside from a few chips in PS3's and XBox360's and the like.
Oracle is right up there with Apple and Adobe of companies I love to hate. I hope they do nothing or go with IBM and get filled with holes in the courts. I think, for them, NVIDIA would be the best investment because a lot of super computers are moving in the direction of GGPU computing which would round out Sun's portfolio and also be good for NVIDIA giving them a processor to develop chipsets exclusively for.
oh and nvidia stock holders, you want this deal to happen...

If Oracle would buy anything, it would be Fujitsu's CPU division and nothing else.
btw AMD now has a big cash cow so you can rule them out of this and NVIDIA is out of question to, why? NVIDIA is a bit picky and wont be buillied by another company :P
