Corsair Ready with SP2500 2.1 Gaming Speakers

With resounding market success with memory and power-supply units, Corsair diversified extensively over the years, entering into cooling, cases, solid-state drives, and very recently, gaming headsets. The latest product from Corsair is also in the PC audio category, albeit being a 2.1 channel desktop speaker set. The Corsair SP2500 is a 2.1 channel PC "gaming speaker" set that delivers 232W (RMS) of continuous power using six Class-D amplifiers.

The set consists of an 8-inch subwoofer in a fourth-order bandpass enclosure; two satellites with 3-inch drivers and 1-inch ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters. User control is care of a wired control module with knobs, buttons, and a 1.8-inch TFT-LCD color status display. Slated for launch later this week, the Corsair SP2500 2.1 gaming speaker set is said to be priced at US $259.99.

Apart from quality, with that price tag, I'd expect this speaker to sound like AL FX6021, if not better. I would not believe a speaker review (subjective). I had to listen to judge if it suitable for me or not.

And with the title "Gaming Speakers", I don't expect an audiophile quality with this.
But 2.1? c'mon corsair, give us 5.1 with that price tag, and it should give logitech a run for their money :shadedshu

claylomaxExactly. If it says Corsair , people will buy it. Just look at the H50 Corsair cooler, it's Asetek the OEM, but people just don't mind to pay more if it says Corsair; same thing with their PSU. EDIT: I missed your post Bear Jesus.
Corsair's superior warranties and customer service play a large role in their success.

As for the H50, Corsair claims to have made some alterations to it, as with all their power supplies. Each manufacturer has different standards, and OEM's are expected to meet those standards.

You can't really judge this set without listening to it. The 232W RMS will probably mean it has powerful bass (not necessarily boomy) that can cope with the most difficult music, and if it has decent full-range class D amplifiers they will be cool, efficient and accurate.

I agree with RejZoR that they should include frequency response and power distribution though. Although with 3" drivers they will definitely lack mid-bass.

I will refrain from any opinion until I see a proper review or hear them personally though. If they sound good enough they'll be worth it, although most people with that kind of sound quality taste will go for more expensive solutions like the Z-5500 or a component system.

Yes, you can buy a mini hi-fi for the price, but there's a good chance it won't sound as good. Only time - and reviews - will tell ;)

5.1 speakers arnt generally very good unless your buying higher end speakers and whats everyone got against 2.1 speakers. I have 2.0 Audioengine A5s and even without a sub they crank the bass out and would sound a hell of alot better than many 5.1 systems especially any logitech ones. Logitech speakers what are they really a whole lot of watts and a giant sub that doesnt even sound that good anyway.

But you really cant judge speakers without hearing them yourself thats the bottom line. Watts really do mean nothing. my speakers peak wattage is 75w per speakers. and i used to have z-2300 2.1 have a peak of 400w. and i can tell you the A5s sound a hell of alot better.

You can't classify Audio Engine A5s as a standard for 2.0 or 2.1 speakers as these are hi-fi speakers for audiophiles and will blow any non hi-fi setup up whether it be 5.1-7.1 as these come close to studio monitors. You're comparing a Ferrari with a bunch of toyotas.

I have an X-530 and Z5500. IMHO, i can get both for the same price if not cheaper, and I think sound quality would be better too. Seems like Corsair is trying to produce new items, whats next, Corsair toilet paper? O.o

RejZoRNo it's not the same. PSU's are custom built. So what if CWT is the vendor, they are build to Corsair specs and designs. If Corsair wants top notch components inside, CWT will use them.

Memory is made by others for 3/4 of RAM sticks and then branded under someone else but again, cooler design on for example Dominators is special in a way even if they are nothing special otherwise.

And i must say, tech support is pretty good and their webpage is really well made. Fotr some, that's very important. Same goes for Corsair H50. That's why making a brand is so important, because ppl will remember you, trust you and keep on buying your stuff.

For Corsair i can safely say they either make quality stuff or they have a good test department that picks up quality OEM's. In the end, if it has Corsair sticker on it, you can be sure you bought a good product. That's something i can safely say.
Yeah, you can safely say you are getting a quality product, but 9 times out of 10 with Corsair, you can also safely say you overpaid for it.
Sir Alex IceReally? Great products and customer support?
Well, for years and years some Corsair PSUs have had the whining issue, which was not fixed despite numerous reports.
Regarding their excellent memory products, they change IC inside them more often than you change your socks. Which mean product quality, overclocking potential and even compatibility is highly based on your luck.
Their flash products have started to use MLC memory, same as all the other cheap producers, so nothing really special there.
So now they are paying some OEM to make for them CPU coolers, headsets and now speakers. VERY expensive speakers.

Think rationally, stop beying fanboys, because the Corsair from NOW is no longer the good, reliable producer they used to be years ago.
I have 3 Corsair PSUs, 520HX, 620HX and a 450VX. None of them whine.

And everybody uses MLC in their flash drives, unless expressly stated to be SLC.

Corsai does still make some decent stuff, but you have to be choosy.

I will say, for the price of these speakers, they better blow away most mid range studio monitors.

Better marketing does not necessarily mean better product ;)
Oh, and SLC was very much used even by producers like A-Data, not to mention top end USB stick makers like Lexar or Sandisk.
The shift to MLC occured because it's cheaper and the technology improved performance. Which means brands using it are cheap brands.

"Used to use SLC" is the key phrase. None of them do any longer, unless expressly specified. And every Sandisk usb drive I have bought in recent years has been a slow POS that won't even boot the Win7 installer for me.

And again, some Corsair products ARE very good. You want to make it sound as if all of their products are bad or cheaply made, and that just is not the case. Many of their PSUs are top notch, as well as their cases. Expensive, yes, but high quality, and have the warranty to match.

Now, things like their ram leave much to be desired, imo. No different than some other manufactures in quality or warranty, but still more expensive.

You have to judge their products on an individual basis.

Okay.
What is he talking about? Trolling?

I have bunch of Corsair items, let's talk about it.

PSUs? I have HX650, and I had TX750, both have had no whining issue, and this is my first time hearing about your issue. I think you are the special case. Most corsair PSUs manufacturer are CWT or Seasonic, (Ax1200 is Flextronics). and Most corsair PSUs are better or cheaper than CWT's base units or Seasonic's base units. If you read PSU reviews from anandtech, jonnyguru, HardwareSecrets, Xbitlabs, or somewhere else, most corsair PSUs considered as recommended product.

Only thing I don't like corsair PSUs, they sometimes say that their PSU has OCP, even though they don't have any, or their chipset support but Corsair decide not to use OCP. They still saying they have one.

Other than that, generally, corsair PSU satisfies both quality and price(considered its quality)

Memory, Hmm. I need to admit it is somewhat overpriced, but it is excellent product.
I don't care they change IC's. They don't lie about their specs. If corsair says their RAM support 2000mhz, it actually does. What is problem? They just didn't guarantee 2400mhz or something. You said their RAM is excellent but changing a lot? I just don't get the point.
I agree some people just want it because of Dominator design + reputation rather than functionality of RAM. There is cheaper but same-level RAM on the market.

Their H50 is yes, it looks very similar with Asetec, but. Is Asetec one cheaper or something? Not really. They are on pretty same price range. Because Corsair is more famous, They just marketing better. Is there any problem with buying H50? Also personally I think H50 is designed better.
Their Air cooler is not bad, but not attractive. (I like design though)

Their flash Drive is Yes, MLCs, but who uses SLC? The marketing point of Corsair flash drive is not spec.

their SSDs are SandForce based SSDs, and they have similar price and same spec with other SandForce SSD. Note now samsung or Intel SSD is better, so I think it is not attractive.

Their cases? 800D has excellent interior, but air cooling performance is just suck. Just use it for WC; then it is an excellent case. It is expensive, but you need to also know that 800D is one of bold-steel cases. It is rigid and hard; it costs a lot to have thick steel + huge case. I mean, it is worth its price if you buy correctly. I bought it and just came yesterday, because there are soo few choices for WC cases.

Note they improved a lot when they come to 600T, and new 650D looks like they didn't have same airflow problem like 800D, so they do fix things. I hope to see their next full-tower case, which doesn't have air flow problem.

Their headset? I heard it is just so-so but not horrible.

Their Speakers? I cannot say all thing right now, but

www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/corsair-sp2500-review/

What's your problem?

Overall, I think corsair makes quality product. They often make expensive one, but worth it if you buy correctly.
Sometimes, there is premium when a product have corsair nametag, but not because their reputation mostly(RAM, I think it is).
Because Corsair designed better, like inside of 800D. I think it is reasonable to buy Corsair.
