Battlefield 3 To Duke It Out With Modern Warfare 3 For Supremacy

BF3 and MW3 are both being released at nearly the same time, just a couple of weeks apart. Since they both target the same high-end gaming audience, there's going to be some very stiff competition indeed between the two games. What's interesting is the chest-beating that Patrick Liu, producer of developer DICE, is doing. He believes that BF3 will take on and make a severe dent in market share for MW3, although he admits that Activision will be hard to push aside:"From what I've seen of Modern Warfare 3 it looks great, as usual. I think we're going to put a huge dent, so to speak, in [Activision's] market, but they're a behemoth. It's not easy to move them... although I believe that we have already done that, with Battlefield 3's campaign so far. But at the same time, from a developer standpoint, we really focus on creating our own game and making the best that we can. We set the bar quite high for ourselves, and that's usually the biggest challenge for us." From the looks of it though, it looks like he wanted to set it even higher, but it would have taken too much time:"I know that the game is never actually done - we can always improve the game. We have lots of ideas on how to improve this, so if we could we would push Battlefield 3 back a year or two maybe. But that wouldn't make any sense. So the biggest challenge is really our own requirements for ourselves." Who wins the battle of the ratings remains to be seen.

No, we cannot predict what is going to happen cause they have not released yet. Once we see them both released then it will be easier to choose sides but as it stands, I have chosen BF3

This is STUPID! BF3 isn't going to be good enough to compete with MW3!
WTF? Even if it was as good or better, What's the point all they are doing is FUCKING GAMERS.

Sorry, this is STUPID

Hmmm... interesting. Which would be my personal winner? Well, BF3 appears to have the better graphics and storyline looks real good, but I've never played BF2, even though I've had it for ages. However, I've played CoD4 all the way through and know the characters and the story, so I'm very familiar and comfortable with it.

Which to choose... ;)

Its hard to compare COD 4 to later ones cause as I have said before, it was the last of the good COD games

Got tired of COD's storyline after COD 4, then the storylines started feeling extremely generic, there only so many times i can tolerate a games storyline that is about freedom loving U.S. soldiers trying to stop the evil Russians with nukes, granted i know there more to the stories then that, but that always feel like the general overview. The multiplayer is ok, maps are tiny and there a lot of ''spaying and praying'' but it's not supposed to be a large scale warfare type game so i can understand.

Battlefield 3 is in a completely separate category for me personally, the multiplayer is insanely better, but thats cause i like the full scale combat stuff. Arguably COD has the better singleplayer experiance since DICE never focuses much effort on the SP anyways in the BF series.

Can't really judge MW3 yet as i have yet to try it, but from the looks of it, it looks the same as always. That's why COD has been crappy for me the past few iteration, im getting tired of seeing the same things over and over. I think they need to stop making a new COD every November and really start making some leaps in the series, even if it'll takes longer, that's what i feel DICE as done well, just look at BF2 compared to BF3 they achieved that large leap by not making a new BF ever year.

COD games in multiplayer are super fast paced and full of spray n pray game play. The animation moves like Tyrone Biggum on a huge crack snort.

I Like both series actually, i really havent jumped into storylines of those games, mainly go straight to multiplayer. Only thing i believe is that they should deal with other theaters aswell, I mean focus on other countries/continents than Iraq or Afghanistan; I say Korea, Vietnam, China, Egypt/Africa, Central America, South America, Australia, Alaska, Antarctica. Have Focus on Both US and Friendly Nation Troops n Enemy Troops. Be voice com ready for Both Story and Online play. Have it somewhat setup like WOW with minimal Load Screens.

They are separate category as CDdude said... I can only say that I know how to appreciate both.

There is a lot of work behind these games

BF2 do not have any sort of campaign, so this is a brand new story. Anyway, co-op and campaign's in both games is going to be great (hopefully). But when it comes to the multiplayer experience, MW3 have no chance.. BF3 is going to be the best multiplayer experience of 2011 !

When it comes to the graphics, BF3 will beat MW3 easily on PC (as you stated), but the graphic on these consoles? Why even care? consoles are old crap from 2005. :)

I used to really like COD, until they began recycling their games, BF3 is too realistic and frustrating for me. I won't be buying either of them. But I hope BF3 crushes COD, so they can maybe go back to making good games.

Looking at the E3 2011 gameplay youtube videos I would not even give this to my enemy and I gave my enemy 10 copy's of MS vista and a rusted potato peeler with rabies on to shave his own private parts with.

LOL MW3 the slow walking in snot, waggling like a duck while walking & running, not even with scuba gear on a nerd does anyone walk like that, the mach 1 Helicopter rocket that is so slow that you can stand for 20 seconds and watch it hit it target 100m away from helicopter and no one shoots at you during this LMAO. 2 clips 45cal emptying into a enemy's face and he just barely gets a scratch. :nutkick:

BF3 with a few tweaks would likely get my money, just need map editor + dedicated user hosted game server and "Ghost Recon OGR CO-OP" 12 players vs online PC bots fun.
It's not great but damn you might be able to play it close to 2003 gaming standards looking at the beta.

Frostbite Engine > Heavily modified and over used Quake 3 Arena engine.

Thats just the bottomline. BF3 is a better engine. There is no way MW3 is going to be able to match it. All the previews I have seen of MW3 are either cut sequences or they show the same heavily scripted game experience I have come to know in MW games. Told me right off the bat, same engine, nothing new, and Activision is continuing to milk the franchise.

MW3 will still sell like hotcakes if only on name alone. Fans of spray n pray mechanics will of course still go to that. It will just depend on how much BC2's low price strat will have on sales of BF3 and MW3. BC2 being constantly on sale and lower in price has helped EA generate more attention to the series. Sowed some good seeds in prep for BF3.

But do I want BF3 to win? No. Reason is because I know if BF3 takes the title, EA will get lazy. Anyone which gets on top tends to be prone to this. Being an underdog or 2nd place dev does make them work harder to innovate more and provide a better experience.

If MW had ever slipped from top, they likely would have ditched the ancient Q3a engine awhile ago. Even UE3 engine would be an improvement to be able to compete better with DICE's vehicle combat. Acti got lazy and so they've rehashed and pushed out more of the same the past few years. It is nice to finally see people recognizing that.

Disagree, we haven't even played the final version of BF3, we've played the beta. What if BF3 turns out to be rock solid too? That becomes a one sided argument again.

Anyway I think the main comparison in graphics should be for the consoles only, there is no doubt BF3 on a PC at ultra settings and 60frames would make MW3 look like calculator graphics but it's most likely a different story for the PS3 and 360 considering the settings would inevitably be toned down because of the outdated hardware, also let's not forget that CoD will be running at 60fps across 360 and PS3 while BF3 will have a lock set at 30, for an FPS game it will be a very tough choice ahead for non PC gamers.

When i played Crysis for the first time 30fps were enough, but as far as MP games go i guess 30 is a bit sluggish

Well, the fact that they just recently released a patch for Bad Company 2 which fixes some bugs it had since launch should at least be an indicator of DICE quality.
BF3 beta was pretty buggy, even for a beta product, it had just way too many critical bugs which should have been fixed in previous versions of the game.

When it comes to graphics, BF3 looks really good, and the attention to detail is amazing, COD not so much.

haven't played cod since the cod 2, hated it, united offensive was the best as far as multiplayer goes for me, anyhow i just wanted to say that the animation still looks pathetic as usual, i simply couldn't bear to play something like that. if you want a shooter that looks pathetic (not saying that mw3's graphics are pathetic, but i expect the animation to follow some laws of physics, you know, friction and stuff) and is good, go play cs 1.6. ;)

ATM I would say both games are a wait and see before purchase, as the amount of bugs in BF3 scares me, and COD . .. well I've been burned too many times on that franchise.

As Long as the Games are Developed for PC first n not the console then im fine with it, MW2 screwed all PC players. Black Ops seems to arcadeish with its gameplay.

I have been lately playing MW2, because CoD4 is a hack fest now(more then MW2 surprisingly) and its not to bad other then ive noticed a lot of inbalanced and faggotry:D:laugh:

I will not buy MW3, but i will need to figure out a way to play the story.

My sister and her boyfriend were over and he asked me what game this is(the new trailer came on during a commercial last night during sunday night football) and i said it was Modern Warfare 3 the new CoD. and my sister was like wow it looks REAL! and i said no, not really.

Some of us enjoy it that way, not everyone want's to play a war sim where you die 20 times before you get 1 kill, because someone is rank 50 and your only rank 3.
